1 Samuel 5
1 After the Philistines had captured the ark of God, they took it from Ebenezer to Ashdod,
तब फिलिस्तीनियों ने परमेश्वर के संदूक को छीनकर उसे एबेन-एज़र से अशदोद को ले गए.
2 carried it into the temple of Dagon, and set it beside his statue.
उन्होंने परमेश्वर के संदूक को दागोन के मंदिर में ले जाकर उसे देवता के पास ही रख दिया.
3 When the people of Ashdod got up early the next morning, there was Dagon, fallen on his face before the ark of the LORD. So they took Dagon and returned him to his place.
तड़के, जब अशदोदवासी जागे, उन्होंने देखा कि याहवेह के संदूक के सामने दागोन भूमि पर मुंह के बल पड़ा हुआ था. तब उन्होंने दागोन को उठाकर दोबारा उसके स्थान पर स्थापित कर दिया.
4 But when they got up early the next morning, there was Dagon, fallen on his face before the ark of the LORD, with his head and his hands broken off and lying on the threshold. Only the torso remained.
जब वे अगले दिन सुबह उठे, उन्होंने देखा कि दागोन दोबारा याहवेह के संदूक के सामने मुंह के बल भूमि पर पड़ा हुआ था. इसके अलावा दागोन का सिर और उसके दोनों हाथ कटे हुए ड्योढ़ी पर पड़े हुए थे-मुंह के बल उसका धड़ समूचा था.
5 That is why, to this day, the priests of Dagon and all who enter the temple of Dagon in Ashdod do not step on the threshold.
वही कारण है कि आज तक, न तो दागोन के पुरोहित और न ही कोई भी, जो दागोन के मंदिर में प्रवेश करता है, अशदोद नगर में दागोन के मंदिर की ड्योढ़ी पर पैर नहीं रखता.
6 Now the hand of the LORD was heavy on the people of Ashdod and its vicinity, ravaging them and afflicting them with tumors.
याहवेह ने अशदोद नगरवासियों पर प्रबल प्रहार किया. अशदोद तथा अन्य निकटवर्ती क्षेत्रों में लोगों को गिल्टियों से पीड़ित किया.
7 And when the men of Ashdod saw what was happening, they said, “The ark of the God of Israel must not stay here with us, because His hand is heavy upon us and upon our god Dagon.”
जब अशदोदवासियों ने स्थिति की विवेचना की, वे इस निष्कर्ष पर पहुंचे, “यह सही नहीं कि इस्राएल के परमेश्वर की मंजूषा हमारे मध्य में रहे, क्योंकि उनके परमेश्वर ने न केवल हम पर, बल्कि हमारे देवता दागोन तक पर प्रहार किया है.”
8 So they called together all the rulers of the Philistines and asked, “What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel?” “It must be moved to Gath,” they replied. So they carried away the ark of the God of Israel.
इसलिये उन्होंने फिलिस्तीनियों के सभी अगुओं को इकट्ठा किया और उनके सामने इस प्रश्न पर विचार किया गया, “इस्राएल के परमेश्वर के संदूक के विषय में क्या किया जाना सही होगा?” सबने कहा, “इस्राएल के परमेश्वर के संदूक को गाथ नगर भेज दिया जाना सही होगा.” तो इस्राएल के परमेश्वर के संदूक का स्थान बदलकर गाथ नगर कर दिया गया.
9 But after they had moved the ark to Gath, the LORD’s hand was also against that city, throwing it into great confusion and afflicting the men of the city, both young and old, with an outbreak of tumors.
यह होने पर याहवेह ने उस नगर पर भी वार किया. इससे वहां घोर आतंक फैल गया. याहवेह ने उस नगर के हर एक व्यक्ति पर वार किया, तब उन सभी को गिल्टियां निकल आए.
10 So they sent the ark of God to Ekron, but as it arrived, the Ekronites cried out, “They have brought us the ark of the God of Israel in order to kill us and our people!”
तब उन्होंने परमेश्वर के संदूक को एक्रोन नगर भेज दिया, मगर जब परमेश्वर का संदूक एक्रोन नगर पहुंचा, एक्रोन वासी यह चिल्लाने लगे, “हमें मारने के उद्देश्य से इस्राएल के परमेश्वर का संदूक यहां लाया गया है.”
11 Then the Ekronites assembled all the rulers of the Philistines and said, “Send away the ark of the God of Israel. It must return to its place, so that it will not kill us and our people!” For a deadly confusion had pervaded the city; the hand of God was heavy upon it.
तब फिलिस्तीनियों के सभी अगुओं की सभा बुलाई गई और यह प्रस्ताव निकाला गया. “इस्राएल के परमेश्वर का संदूक यहां से बाहर भेज दिया जाए. सही है कि यह उसके निर्धारित स्थान पर जाए, कि यह हमारी और हमारी प्रजा की हत्या न कर सकें.” पूरा नगर मृत्यु के आतंक की चपेट में आ पड़ा था. वहां परमेश्वर उन पर बहुत ही प्रबल प्रहार कर रहे थे.
12 Those who did not die were afflicted with tumors, and the outcry of the city went up to heaven.
जिन लोगों की अभी मृत्यु नहीं हुई थी, उनकी देह गिल्टियों से भरी पड़ी थी. नगर की दोहाई स्वर्ग तक जा पहुंची.
