1 Samuel 5
1 After the Philistines had captured the ark of God, they took it from Ebenezer to Ashdod,
培肋舍特人劫走了天主的約櫃，從厄本厄則爾運到阿市多得，
2 carried it into the temple of Dagon, and set it beside his statue.
把天主的約櫃抬到達貢廟內，放在達貢近旁。
3 When the people of Ashdod got up early the next morning, there was Dagon, fallen on his face before the ark of the LORD. So they took Dagon and returned him to his place.
第二天清早，阿市多得人起來，見達貢傾倒了，在上主的約櫃面前，俯伏在地；他們把達貢豎起安置在原處。
4 But when they got up early the next morning, there was Dagon, fallen on his face before the ark of the LORD, with his head and his hands broken off and lying on the threshold. Only the torso remained.
但第二天清早人們起來，見達貢又傾倒了，仍在上主的約櫃面前，俯伏在地，達貢的頭和雙手都斷在門檻上，只留下了他的魚身。──
5 That is why, to this day, the priests of Dagon and all who enter the temple of Dagon in Ashdod do not step on the threshold.
因此，達貢的司祭和進達貢廟的人，都不敢踏阿市多得的廟的門檻，直到今天。
6 Now the hand of the LORD was heavy on the people of Ashdod and its vicinity, ravaging them and afflicting them with tumors.
上主的手重重地壓制了阿市多得人，威嚇他們，使阿市多得和附近的人都生了毒瘡。
7 And when the men of Ashdod saw what was happening, they said, “The ark of the God of Israel must not stay here with us, because His hand is heavy upon us and upon our god Dagon.”
阿市多得人一見這樣，就說：「別讓以色列天主的約櫃留在我們這裏，因他的手重重地壓制了我們的神達貢。」
8 So they called together all the rulers of the Philistines and asked, “What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel?” “It must be moved to Gath,” they replied. So they carried away the ark of the God of Israel.
遂打發人召集了培肋舍特人所有的酋長來到他們那裏，向他們說：「對以色列天主的約櫃我們該怎麼辦﹖」他們就回答說：「把以色列天主的約櫃送到加特去! 」他們遂把以色列天主的約櫃送到加特去了。
9 But after they had moved the ark to Gath, the LORD’s hand was also against that city, throwing it into great confusion and afflicting the men of the city, both young and old, with an outbreak of tumors.
他們把約櫃送去以後，上主的手又壓制那座城，使他們發生了很大的恐慌，因為上主打擊了城中的人，無論老幼，都患了毒瘡。
10 So they sent the ark of God to Ekron, but as it arrived, the Ekronites cried out, “They have brought us the ark of the God of Israel in order to kill us and our people!”
於是加特人又把天主的約櫃送到厄刻龍；天主的約櫃一到了厄刻龍，厄刻龍人就喊說：「人把以色列天主的約櫃送到我們這裏，是為殺害我們和我們的百姓! 」
11 Then the Ekronites assembled all the rulers of the Philistines and said, “Send away the ark of the God of Israel. It must return to its place, so that it will not kill us and our people!” For a deadly confusion had pervaded the city; the hand of God was heavy upon it.
遂立刻派人召集培肋舍特所有的酋長來，向他們說，「你們把以色列天主的約櫃送走，送回原處，免得殺害我們和我們的百姓。」因為全城的人死的太多了，天主的手重重地壓制了那地方。
12 Those who did not die were afflicted with tumors, and the outcry of the city went up to heaven.
凡沒有死的人，都患了毒瘡，因此城中哀號之聲，上達於天。
