1 Samuel 4

1 Thus the word of Samuel came to all Israel. Now the Israelites went out to meet the Philistines in battle and camped at Ebenezer, while the Philistines camped at Aphek.

۱ و کلام سموئیل به تمامی اسرائیل رسید. واسرائیل به مقابله فلسطینیان در جنگ بیرون آمده، نزد ابن عزر اردو زدند، و فلسطینیان در افیق فرود آمدند.

2 The Philistines arrayed themselves against Israel, and as the battle spread, Israel was defeated by the Philistines, who struck down about four thousand men on the battlefield.

۲ و فلسطینیان در مقابل اسرائیل صف آرایی کردند، و چون جنگ درپیوستند، اسرائیل از حضور فلسطینیان شکست خوردند، و در معرکه به قدر چهار هزار نفر را درمیدان کشتند.

3 When the troops returned to the camp, the elders of Israel asked, “Why has the LORD brought defeat on us before the Philistines today? Let us bring the ark of the covenant of the LORD from Shiloh, so that it may go with us to save us from the hand of our enemies.”

۳ و چون قوم به لشکرگاه رسیدند، مشایخ اسرائیل گفتند: «چرا امروز خداوند ما رااز حضور فلسطینیان شکست داد؟ پس تابوت عهد خداوند را از شیلوه نزد خود بیاوریم تا درمیان ما آمده، ما را از دست دشمنان ما نجات دهد.»

4 So the people sent men to Shiloh, and they brought back the ark of the covenant of the LORD of Hosts, who sits enthroned between the cherubim. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God.

۴ و قوم به شیلوه فرستاده، تابوت عهد یهوه صبایوت را که در میان کروبیان ساکن است از آنجاآوردند، و دو پسر عیلی حفنی و فینحاس درآنجا با تابوت عهد خدا بودند.

5 When the ark of the covenant of the LORD entered the camp, all the Israelites raised such a great shout that it shook the ground.

۵ و چون تابوت عهد خداوند به لشکرگاه داخل شد، جمیع اسرائیل صدای بلند زدند به حدی که زمین متزلزل شد.

6 On hearing the noise of the shout, the Philistines asked, “What is this loud shouting in the camp of the Hebrews?” And when they realized that the ark of the LORD had entered the camp,

۶ و چون فلسطینیان آواز صدا را شنیدند، گفتند: «این آواز صدای بلنددر اردوی عبرانیان چیست؟» پس فهمیدند که تابوت خداوند به اردو آمده است.

7 the Philistines were afraid. “The gods have entered their camp!” they said. “Woe to us, for nothing like this has happened before.

۷ و فلسطینیان ترسیدند زیرا گفتند: «خدا به اردو آمده است» و گفتند: «وای بر ما، زیرا قبل از این‌چنین چیزی واقع نشده است!

8 Woe to us! Who will deliver us from the hand of these mighty gods? These are the gods who struck the Egyptians with all kinds of plagues in the wilderness.

۸ وای بر ما، کیست که ما را ازدست این خدایان زورآور رهایی دهد، همین خدایانند که مصریان را در بیابان به همه بلایا مبتلاساختند.

9 Take courage and be men, O Philistines! Otherwise, you will serve the Hebrews just as they served you. Now be men and fight!”

۹ ‌ای فلسطینیان خویشتن را تقویت داده، مردان باشید مبادا عبرانیان را بندگی کنید، چنانکه ایشان شما را بندگی نمودند، پس مردان شوید و جنگ کنید.»

10 So the Philistines fought, and Israel was defeated, and each man fled to his tent. The slaughter was very great—thirty thousand foot soldiers of Israel fell.

۱۰ پس فلسطینیان جنگ کردند و اسرائیل شکست خورده، هر یک به خیمه خود فرار کردندو کشتار بسیار عظیمی شد، و از اسرائیل سی هزار پیاده کشته شدند.

11 The ark of God was captured, and Eli’s two sons, Hophni and Phinehas, died.

۱۱ و تابوت خدا گرفته شد، و دو پسر عیلی حفنی و فینحاس کشته شدند.

12 That same day a Benjamite ran from the battle line all the way to Shiloh, with his clothes torn and dirt on his head.

۱۲ و مردی بنیامینی از لشکر دویده، در همان روز با جامه دریده و خاک بر سر ریخته، به شیلوه آمد.

13 When he arrived, there was Eli, sitting on his chair beside the road and watching, because his heart trembled for the ark of God. When the man entered the city to give a report, the whole city cried out.

۱۳ و چون وارد شد اینک عیلی به کنار راه برکرسی خود مراقب نشسته، زیرا که دلش درباره تابوت خدا مضطرب می‌بود. و چون آن مرد به شهر داخل شده، خبر داد، تمامی شهر نعره زدند.

14 Eli heard the outcry and asked, “Why this commotion?” So the man hurried over and reported to Eli.

۱۴ و چون عیلی آواز نعره را شنید، گفت: «این آواز هنگامه چیست؟» پس آن مرد شتافته، عیلی را خبر داد.

15 Now Eli was ninety-eight years old, and his gaze was fixed because he could not see.

۱۵ و عیلی نود و هشت ساله بود وچشمانش تار شده، نمی توانست دید.

16 “I have just come from the battle,” the man said to Eli. “I fled from there today.” “What happened, my son?” Eli asked.

۱۶ پس آن مرد به عیلی گفت: «منم که از لشکرآمده، و من امروز از لشکر فرار کرده‌ام.» گفت: «ای پسرم کار چگونه گذشت؟»

17 The messenger answered, “Israel has fled before the Philistines, and there has been a great slaughter among the people. Your two sons, Hophni and Phinehas, are both dead, and the ark of God has been captured.”

۱۷ و آن خبرآورنده در جواب گفت: «اسرائیل از حضورفلسطینیان فرار کردند، و شکست عظیمی هم درقوم واقع شد، و نیز دو پسرت حفنی و فینحاس مردند و تابوت عهد خدا گرفته شد.»

18 As soon as the ark of God was mentioned, Eli fell backward from his chair by the city gate, and being old and heavy, he broke his neck and died. And Eli had judged Israel forty years.

۱۸ و چون ازتابوت خدا خبر داد، عیلی از کرسی خود به پهلوی دروازه به پشت افتاده، گردنش بشکست وبمرد، زیرا که مردی پیر و سنگین بود و چهل سال بر اسرائیل داوری کرده بود.

19 Now Eli’s daughter-in-law, the wife of Phinehas, was pregnant and about to give birth. When she heard the news of the capture of God’s ark and the deaths of her father-in-law and her husband, she collapsed and gave birth, for her labor pains overtook her.

۱۹ و عروس او، زن فینحاس که حامله و نزدیک به زاییدن بود، چون خبر‌گرفتن تابوت خدا و مرگ پدر شوهرش وشوهرش را شنید، خم شده، زایید زیرا که درد زه او را بگرفت.

20 As she was dying, the women attending to her said, “Do not be afraid, for you have given birth to a son!” But she did not respond or pay any heed.

۲۰ و در وقت مردنش زنانی که نزدوی ایستاده بودند، گفتند: «مترس زیرا که پسرزاییدی، » اما او جواب نداد و اعتنا ننمود.

21 And she named the boy Ichabod, saying, “The glory has departed from Israel,” because the ark of God had been captured and her father-in-law and her husband had been killed.

۲۱ وپسر را ایخابود نام نهاده، گفت: «جلال از اسرائیل زایل شد»، چونکه تابوت خدا گرفته شده بود و به‌سبب پدر شوهرش و شوهرش.

22 “The glory has departed from Israel,” she said, “for the ark of God has been captured.”

۲۲ پس گفت: «جلال از اسرائیل زایل شد زیرا که تابوت خداگرفته شده است.»
