< 1 Samuel 31 >

1 Now the Philistines fought against Israel, and the men of Israel fled before them, and many fell slain on Mount Gilboa.
Nísinsin yìí, àwọn ará Filistini dojú ìjà kọ Israẹli, àwọn ará Israẹli sì sálọ kúrò níwájú wọn, a sì pa ọ̀pọ̀ wọn sí orí òkè Gilboa.
2 The Philistines followed hard after Saul and his sons, and they killed Saul’s sons Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malchishua.
Àwọn Filistini sì ń lépa Saulu àti àwọn ọmọ rẹ̀ kíkan; àwọn Filistini sì pa Jonatani àti Abinadabu, àti Malikiṣua, àwọn ọmọ Saulu.
3 When the battle intensified against Saul, the archers overtook him and wounded him critically.
Ìjà náà sì burú fún Saulu gidigidi, àwọn tafàtafà si ta á ní ọfà, o sì fi ara pa púpọ̀ lọ́wọ́ àwọn tafàtafà.
4 Then Saul said to his armor-bearer, “Draw your sword and run it through me, or these uncircumcised men will come and run me through and torture me!” But his armor-bearer was terrified and refused to do it. So Saul took his own sword and fell on it.
Saulu sì wí fún ẹni tí ó ru ìhámọ́ra rẹ̀ pé, “Fa idà rẹ yọ, kí ìwọ sì fi gún mi, kí àwọn aláìkọlà wọ̀nyí má ba à wá gún mi, àti kí wọn kí ó má bá à fi mí ṣe ẹlẹ́yà.” Ṣùgbọ́n ẹni tí ó rú ẹ̀rù ìhámọ́ra rẹ̀ kò fẹ́ ṣe bẹ́ẹ̀, nítorí pé ẹ̀rù bà á gidigidi. Nígbà náà ni Saulu mú idà, ó sì ṣubú lù ú.

7 When the Israelites along the valley and those on the other side of the Jordan saw that the army of Israel had fled and that Saul and his sons had died, they abandoned their cities and ran away. So the Philistines came and occupied their cities.
Nígbà ti àwọn ọkùnrin Israẹli tí ó wà lápá kejì àfonífojì náà, àti àwọn ẹni tí ó wà lápá kejì Jordani, rí pé àwọn ọkùnrin Israẹli sá, àti pé Saulu àti àwọn ọmọkùnrin rẹ ti kú, wọ́n sì fi ìlú sílẹ̀, wọ́n sì sá, àwọn Filistini sì wá, wọ́n sì jókòó si ìlú wọn.
8 The next day, when the Philistines came to strip the dead, they found Saul and his three sons fallen on Mount Gilboa.

9 They cut off Saul’s head, stripped off his armor, and sent messengers throughout the land of the Philistines to proclaim the news in the temples of their idols and among their people.
Wọ́n sì gé orí rẹ̀, wọ́n sì bọ ìhámọ́ra rẹ̀, wọ́n sì ránṣẹ́ lọ ilẹ̀ Filistini káàkiri, láti máa sọ ọ́ ní gbangba ni ilé òrìṣà wọn, àti láàrín àwọn ènìyàn.
10 They put his armor in the temple of the Ashtoreths and hung his body on the wall of Beth-shan.
Wọ́n sì fi ìhámọ́ra rẹ̀ sí ilé Aṣtoreti: wọ́n sì kan òkú rẹ̀ mọ́ odi Beti-Ṣani.
11 When the people of Jabesh-gilead heard what the Philistines had done to Saul,

12 all their men of valor set out, journeyed all night, and retrieved the bodies of Saul and his sons from the wall of Beth-shan. When they arrived at Jabesh, they burned the bodies there.
