1 Samuel 31
1 Now the Philistines fought against Israel, and the men of Israel fled before them, and many fell slain on Mount Gilboa.
૧હવે પલિસ્તીઓએ ઇઝરાયલ વિરુદ્ધ લડાઈ કરી. ઇઝરાયલના માણસો પલિસ્તીઓની સામેથી નાસી ગયા. પણ ગિલ્બોઆ પર્વત ઉપર કતલ થઈને પડ્યા.
2 The Philistines followed hard after Saul and his sons, and they killed Saul’s sons Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malchishua.
૨પલિસ્તીઓએ શાઉલનો તથા તેના દીકરાઓનો પીછો કર્યો. તેઓએ તેના દીકરાઓ યોનાથાન, અબીનાદાબ તથા માલ્કી-શુઆને મારી નાખ્યા.
3 When the battle intensified against Saul, the archers overtook him and wounded him critically.
૩શાઉલની વિરુદ્ધ સખત યુદ્ધ મચ્યું અને ધનુર્ધારીઓએ તેને પકડી પાડ્યો. તે તેઓને કારણે તીવ્ર પીડામાં સપડાયો.
4 Then Saul said to his armor-bearer, “Draw your sword and run it through me, or these uncircumcised men will come and run me through and torture me!” But his armor-bearer was terrified and refused to do it. So Saul took his own sword and fell on it.
૪પછી શાઉલે પોતાના શસ્ત્રવાહકને કહ્યું, “તારી તલવાર તાણીને મને વીંધી નાખ. નહિ તો, આ બેસુન્નતીઓ આવીને મને વીંધી નાખીને મારું અપમાન કરશે.” પણ તેના શસ્ત્રવાહકે એમ કરવાની ના પાડી, કેમ કે તે ઘણો ગભરાતો હતો. તેથી શાઉલ પોતાની તલવાર લઈને તેની ઉપર પડ્યો.
5 When his armor-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he too fell on his own sword and died with him.
૫જયારે શાઉલને મરણ પામેલો જોયો ત્યારે તેનો શસ્ત્રવાહક પણ પોતાની તલવાર ઉપર પડીને તેની સાથે મરણ પામ્યો.
6 So Saul, his three sons, his armor-bearer, and all his men died together that same day.
૬તેથી શાઉલ, તેના ત્રણ દીકરાઓ તથા તેનો શસ્ત્રવાહક તેના સર્વ માણસો તે જ દિવસે એકસાથે મરણ પામ્યા.
7 When the Israelites along the valley and those on the other side of the Jordan saw that the army of Israel had fled and that Saul and his sons had died, they abandoned their cities and ran away. So the Philistines came and occupied their cities.
૭જયારે ખીણની સામી બાજુના ઇઝરાયલી માણસો તથા યર્દનની સામેની કિનારીના લોકોએ તે જોયું કે ઇઝરાયલના માણસો નાસવા માંડ્યા છે. અને શાઉલ તથા તેના દીકરાઓ મરણ પામ્યા છે, ત્યારે તેઓ નગરો છોડીને નાસી ગયા. અને પલિસ્તીઓ આવીને તેમાં વસ્યા.
8 The next day, when the Philistines came to strip the dead, they found Saul and his three sons fallen on Mount Gilboa.
૮બીજે દિવસે એમ થયું કે, જયારે પલિસ્તીઓ મૃતદેહો પરથી વસ્ત્રો અને અન્ય ચીજો ઉતારી લેવા આવ્યા, ત્યારે તેઓએ શાઉલને તથા તેના ત્રણ દીકરાઓને મૃતાવસ્થામાં ગિલ્બોઆ પર્વત પર પડેલા જોયા.
9 They cut off Saul’s head, stripped off his armor, and sent messengers throughout the land of the Philistines to proclaim the news in the temples of their idols and among their people.
૯તેઓએ તેનું માથું કાપી લીધું અને તેનાં શસ્ત્રો ઉતારી લીધા. આ સમાચાર લોકોમાં જાહેર કરવા સારુ પોતાનાં મૂર્તિનાં મંદિરોમાં તથા પલિસ્તીઓના દેશમાં સર્વ ઠેકાણે તેઓએ સંદેશવાહકો મોકલ્યા.
10 They put his armor in the temple of the Ashtoreths and hung his body on the wall of Beth-shan.
૧૦તેઓએ તેનાં શસ્ત્રો દેવી આશ્તારોથના મંદિરમાં મૂકયાં અને શાઉલના મૃતદેહને બેથ-શાનના કોટ પર જડી દીધો.
11 When the people of Jabesh-gilead heard what the Philistines had done to Saul,
૧૧પલિસ્તીઓએ શાઉલના જે હાલ કર્યા હતા તે વિષે જયારે યાબેશ ગિલ્યાદના રહેવાસીઓએ સાંભળ્યું,
12 all their men of valor set out, journeyed all night, and retrieved the bodies of Saul and his sons from the wall of Beth-shan. When they arrived at Jabesh, they burned the bodies there.
૧૨ત્યારે સઘળા બહાદુર પુરુષો ઊઠીને આખી રાત ચાલ્યા અને બેથ-શાનના કોટ પરથી શાઉલના મૃતદેહને તથા તેના દીકરાઓના મૃતદેહને તેઓ યાબેશમાં લઈ આવ્યા. ત્યાં તેઓએ તેને અગ્નિદાહ દીધો.
13 Then they took their bones and buried them under the tamarisk tree in Jabesh, and they fasted seven days.
૧૩પછી તેઓએ તેનાં હાડકાં લઈને યાબેશ નગરમાંના એશેલ વૃક્ષ નીચે દફનાવ્યાં અને સાત દિવસ સુધી ઉપવાસ કર્યો.
