1 Samuel 16
1 Now the LORD said to Samuel, “How long are you going to mourn for Saul, since I have rejected him as king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil and go. I am sending you to Jesse of Bethlehem, for I have selected from his sons a king for Myself.”
Yavé dijo a Samuel: ¿Hasta cuándo te afligirás por Saúl, si Yo lo rechacé como rey de Israel? Llena tu cuerno de aceite, y ven, porque Yo te enviaré a Isaí de Belén, porque de entre sus hijos me seleccioné un rey.
2 “How can I go?” Samuel asked. “Saul will hear of it and kill me!” The LORD answered, “Take a heifer with you and say, ‘I have come to sacrifice to the LORD.’
Samuel dijo: ¿Cómo iré? ¡Si Saúl se entera me matará! Pero Yavé dijo: Toma contigo una becerra de la manada vacuna, y dí: Vine a sacrificar a Yavé.
3 Then invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what you are to do. You are to anoint for Me the one I indicate.”
Invitarás a Isaí al sacrificio, y Yo te informaré lo que vas a hacer. Ungirás a quien Yo te diga.
4 So Samuel did what the LORD had said and went to Bethlehem. When the elders of the town met him, they trembled and asked, “Do you come in peace?”
Samuel hizo lo que le habló Yavé. Cuando llegó a Belén los ancianos de la ciudad salieron temblorosos a recibirlo y preguntaron: ¿Es pacífica tu venida?
5 “In peace,” he replied. “I have come to sacrifice to the LORD. Consecrate yourselves and come with me to the sacrifice.” Then he consecrated Jesse and his sons and invited them to the sacrifice.
Y él contestó: ¡Pacífica! Vine a ofrecer sacrificio a Yavé. Purifíquense ustedes y vengan conmigo al sacrificio. Después purificó a Isaí con sus hijos y los invitó al sacrificio.
6 When they arrived, Samuel saw Eliab and said, “Surely here before the LORD is His anointed.”
Sucedió que cuando ellos llegaron, él vio a Eliab, y se dijo: ¡Ciertamente su ungido está delante de Yavé!
7 But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or height, for I have rejected him; the LORD does not see as man does. For man sees the outward appearance, but the LORD sees the heart.”
Pero Yavé dijo a Samuel: No mires su apariencia, ni a lo grande de su estatura, pues Yo lo desecho, porque Yavé no mira lo que mira el hombre. El hombre mira lo que está delante de sus ojos, pero Yavé mira el corazón.
8 Then Jesse called Abinadab and presented him to Samuel, who said, “The LORD has not chosen this one either.”
Entonces Isaí llamó a Abinadab, y lo hizo pasar delante de Samuel, quien dijo: Yavé tampoco eligió a éste.
9 Next Jesse presented Shammah, but Samuel said, “The LORD has not chosen this one either.”
Luego Isaí hizo pasar a Samá. Y él dijo: Yavé tampoco eligió a éste.
10 Thus Jesse made seven of his sons pass before Samuel, but Samuel told him, “The LORD has not chosen any of these.”
Así Isaí hizo pasar a sus siete hijos delante de Samuel, pero Samuel dijo a Isaí: Yavé no eligió a éstos.
11 And Samuel asked him, “Are these all the sons you have?” “There is still the youngest,” Jesse replied, “but he is tending the sheep.” “Send for him,” Samuel replied. “For we will not sit down to eat until he arrives.”
Samuel preguntó a Isaí: ¿Son éstos todos tus hijos? Y él respondió: Queda aún el menor. Ciertamente, pastorea el rebaño. Entonces Samuel dijo a Isaí: Envía por él y tráelo, porque no nos reclinaremos hasta que él venga aquí.
12 So Jesse sent for his youngest son and brought him in. He was ruddy, with beautiful eyes and a handsome appearance. And the LORD said, “Rise and anoint him, for he is the one.”
Isaí envió por él y lo presentó. Él era rubio, de ojos vivaces y buen parecer. Entonces Yavé dijo: ¡Levántate y úngelo, porque éste es!
13 So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and the Spirit of the LORD rushed upon David from that day forward. Then Samuel set out and went to Ramah.
Entonces Samuel tomó el cuerno de aceite y lo ungió en medio de sus hermanos, y el Espíritu de Yavé se apoderó de David desde aquel día en adelante. Luego Samuel se levantó y regresó a Ramá.
14 After the Spirit of the LORD had departed from Saul, a spirit of distress from the LORD began to torment him.
El Espíritu de Yavé se apartó de Saúl, y un espíritu malo de parte de Yavé lo atormentaba.
15 Saul’s servants said to him, “Surely a spirit of distress from God is tormenting you.
Los esclavos de Saúl le dijeron: Mira, un espíritu malo de parte de Yavé te atormenta.
16 Let our lord command your servants here to seek out someone who can skillfully play the harp. Whenever the spirit of distress from God is upon you, he is to play it, and you will be well.”
Ordene nuestro ʼadón a sus esclavos que están ante ti, que busquen un varón que sepa tañer el arpa. Acontecerá que cuando te acometa el espíritu malo de parte de ʼElohim, él tañerá con su mano y tú estarás bien.
17 And Saul commanded his servants, “Find me someone who plays well, and bring him to me.”
Saúl respondió a sus esclavos: Búsquenme alguno que taña bien y tráiganlo.
18 One of the servants answered, “I have seen a son of Jesse of Bethlehem who knows how to play the harp. He is a mighty man of valor, a warrior, eloquent and handsome, and the LORD is with him.”
Entonces uno de los esclavos tomó la palabra y dijo: Miren, vi a un hijo de Isaí de Belén que sabe tañer. Es poderoso y valiente, guerrero, discreto en el hablar y de buen parecer, y Yavé está con él.
19 So Saul sent messengers to Jesse and said, “Send me your son David, who is with the sheep.”
Saúl envió mensajeros a Isaí para decirle: Envíame a tu hijo David, el que está con el rebaño.
20 And Jesse took a donkey loaded with bread, a skin of wine, and one young goat, and sent them to Saul with his son David.
Isaí tomó un asno cargado de pan, un odre de vino y un cabrito del rebaño, y los envió a Saúl por medio de su hijo David.
21 When David came to Saul and entered his service, Saul admired him greatly, and David became his armor-bearer.
David fue a Saúl y se quedó con él. Lo estimó muchísimo, y lo nombró portador de sus armas.
22 Then Saul sent word to Jesse, saying, “Let David remain in my service, for I am pleased with him.”
Saúl envió a decir a Isaí: Te ruego que David se quede delante de mí, pues halló gracia ante mis ojos.
23 And whenever the spirit from God came upon Saul, David would pick up his harp and play, and Saul would become well, and the spirit of distress would depart from him.
De modo que cuando el espíritu malo de parte de ʼElohim acometía a Saúl, David tomaba el arpa y la tañía con su mano. Saúl hallaba alivio y se sentía mejor, y el espíritu malo se apartaba de él.
