< 1 Samuel 16 >

1 Now the LORD said to Samuel, “How long are you going to mourn for Saul, since I have rejected him as king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil and go. I am sending you to Jesse of Bethlehem, for I have selected from his sons a king for Myself.”
Yehova anati kwa Samueli, “Kodi udzamulira Sauli mpaka liti, popeza Ine ndamukana kuti akhale mfumu ya Israeli? Dzaza mafuta mʼbotolo lako ndipo unyamuke kupita kwa Yese wa ku Betelehemu popeza ndadzisankhira mmodzi mwa ana ake kukhala mfumu.”
2 “How can I go?” Samuel asked. “Saul will hear of it and kill me!” The LORD answered, “Take a heifer with you and say, ‘I have come to sacrifice to the LORD.’
Koma Samueli anati, “Kodi ndingapite bwanji? Sauli akamva zimenezi adzandipha.” Yehova anayankha, “Tenga ngʼombe yayikazi ndipo ukanene kuti, ‘Ndabwera kudzapereka nsembe kwa Yehova.
3 Then invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what you are to do. You are to anoint for Me the one I indicate.”
Ukamuyitane Yese ku mwambo wa nsembe, ndipo ine ndidzakuwuza choti ukachite. Ukandidzozere amene ndikakulozere.’”
4 So Samuel did what the LORD had said and went to Bethlehem. When the elders of the town met him, they trembled and asked, “Do you come in peace?”
Samueli anachita zimene Yehova ananena, ndipo anabweradi ku Betelehemu kuja. Akuluakulu a mu mzindawo anamuchingamira ali njenjenje ndi mantha ndipo anamufunsa kuti, “Kodi mwabwera mwa mtendere?”
5 “In peace,” he replied. “I have come to sacrifice to the LORD. Consecrate yourselves and come with me to the sacrifice.” Then he consecrated Jesse and his sons and invited them to the sacrifice.
Samueli anayankha kuti, “Inde, kwabwino. Ndabwera kudzapereka nsembe kwa Yehova. Mudzipatule ndipo mubwere kudzapereka nsembe pamodzi nane.” Kenaka iye anamupatula Yese ndi ana ake aamuna ndipo anawayitana kudzapereka nsembe.
6 When they arrived, Samuel saw Eliab and said, “Surely here before the LORD is His anointed.”
Pamene anafika, Samueli anaona Eliabu ndipo anaganiza “Ndithu wodzozedwa wa Yehova uja ndi uyu wayima pamaso pakeyu.”
7 But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or height, for I have rejected him; the LORD does not see as man does. For man sees the outward appearance, but the LORD sees the heart.”
Koma Yehova anati kwa Samueli, “Usaone maonekedwe ake kapena msinkhu wake, pakuti ndamukana iyeyu. Yehova sapenya zimene munthu amapenya. Anthu amapenya zakunja, koma Mulungu amapenya za mu mtima.”
8 Then Jesse called Abinadab and presented him to Samuel, who said, “The LORD has not chosen this one either.”
Kenaka Yese anayitana Abinadabu namubweretsa pamaso pa Samueli. Koma Samueli anati, “Yehova sanamusankhenso ameneyu.”
9 Next Jesse presented Shammah, but Samuel said, “The LORD has not chosen this one either.”
Ndipo Yese anayitana Sama, koma Samueli anati, “Ngakhale uyu Yehova sanamusankhe.”
10 Thus Jesse made seven of his sons pass before Samuel, but Samuel told him, “The LORD has not chosen any of these.”
Pambuyo pake, Yese anayitana ana ake amuna asanu ndi awiri kuti apite kwa Samueli. Koma Samueli anati, “Yehova sanasankhe amenewa.”
11 And Samuel asked him, “Are these all the sons you have?” “There is still the youngest,” Jesse replied, “but he is tending the sheep.” “Send for him,” Samuel replied. “For we will not sit down to eat until he arrives.”
Tsono Samueli anafunsa Yese kuti, “Kodi awa ndi ana ako onse aamuna?” Yese anayankha kuti, “Ayi, alipo wina wamngʼono amene watsala, koma akuweta nkhosa.” Samueli anati, “Apite munthu akamutenge popeza sitipereka nsembe mpaka iye atabwera.”
12 So Jesse sent for his youngest son and brought him in. He was ruddy, with beautiful eyes and a handsome appearance. And the LORD said, “Rise and anoint him, for he is the one.”
Choncho anatuma munthu kukamutenga ndipo anabwera naye. Iye anali wofiirira, wa maonekedwe abwino ochititsa kaso. Ndipo Yehova anati, “Mudzoze popeza ndi ameneyu.”
13 So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and the Spirit of the LORD rushed upon David from that day forward. Then Samuel set out and went to Ramah.
Samueli anatenga botolo la mafuta ndi kumudzoza pamaso pa abale ake, ndipo Mzimu wa Yehova unabwera mwamphamvu pa Davide kuyambira tsiku limenelo mpaka mʼtsogolo. Pambuyo pake Samueli anabwerera ku Rama.
14 After the Spirit of the LORD had departed from Saul, a spirit of distress from the LORD began to torment him.
Nthawi imeneyo Mzimu wa Yehova unamuchokera Sauli, ndipo mzimu woyipa wochokera kwa Yehova unayamba kumuzunza.
15 Saul’s servants said to him, “Surely a spirit of distress from God is tormenting you.
Atumiki a Sauli anati, “Taonani mzimu woyipa wochokera kwa Mulungu ukukuzunzani.
16 Let our lord command your servants here to seek out someone who can skillfully play the harp. Whenever the spirit of distress from God is upon you, he is to play it, and you will be well.”
Ndiyetu, inu mbuye wathu titumeni ife antchito anu kuti tikafune munthu wodziwa bwino kuyimba zeze. Tsono pamene mzimu woyipa wochokera kwa Mulungu wakufikirani, iye azidzayimba ndipo mudzakhala bwino.”
17 And Saul commanded his servants, “Find me someone who plays well, and bring him to me.”
Choncho Sauli anati kwa atumiki ake, “Chabwino, kandipezereni munthu wodziwa bwino kuyimba ndipo mubwere naye kuno.”
18 One of the servants answered, “I have seen a son of Jesse of Bethlehem who knows how to play the harp. He is a mighty man of valor, a warrior, eloquent and handsome, and the LORD is with him.”
Mmodzi mwa antchito ake anati, “Ine ndinaona mwana wa Yese wa ku Betelehemu. Ndiye munthu wodziwa bwino kuyimba, wolimba mtima, ngwazi pa nkhondo, wodziwa kuyankhula ndi wokongola. Ndipotu Yehova ali ndi iye.”
19 So Saul sent messengers to Jesse and said, “Send me your son David, who is with the sheep.”
Ndipo Sauli anatumiza amithenga kwa Yese kukanena kuti, “Nditumizireni mwana wanu Davide, amene amaweta nkhosa.”
20 And Jesse took a donkey loaded with bread, a skin of wine, and one young goat, and sent them to Saul with his son David.
Choncho Yese anatenga bulu namunyamulitsa buledi, thumba la vinyo ndi mwana wambuzi mmodzi. Zonsezi anamupatsa mwana wake Davide kuti akapereke kwa Sauli.
21 When David came to Saul and entered his service, Saul admired him greatly, and David became his armor-bearer.
Davide anafika kwa Sauli ndipo anayamba ntchito. Sauli anamukonda kwambiri Davide ndipo anamusandutsa wonyamula zida zake za nkhondo.
22 Then Saul sent word to Jesse, saying, “Let David remain in my service, for I am pleased with him.”
Kenaka Sauli anatumiza mawu kwa Yese ndi kuti, “Mulole kuti Davide azinditumikira, pakuti ndamukonda kwambiri.”
23 And whenever the spirit from God came upon Saul, David would pick up his harp and play, and Saul would become well, and the spirit of distress would depart from him.
Nthawi zonse mzimu woyipa wochokera kwa Mulungu umati ukamufikira Sauli, Davide ankatenga zeze wake nʼkumamuyimbira. Choncho Sauli ankapeza bwino, ndipo mzimu woyipa uja unkamusiya.
