1 Samuel 1
1 Now there was a man named Elkanah who was from Ramathaim-zophim in the hill country of Ephraim. He was the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephraimite.
എഫ്രയീം മലനാട്ടിലെ രാമാഥയീം-സോഫീമിൽ എല്ക്കാനാ എന്നു പേരുള്ള ഒരു പുരുഷൻ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവൻ എലീഹൂവിന്റെ മകനായ യെരോഹാമിന്റെ മകൻ ആയിരുന്നു; എലീഹൂ എഫ്രയീമ്യനായ സൂഫിന്റെ മകനായ തോഹൂവിന്റെ മകൻ ആയിരുന്നു.
2 He had two wives, one named Hannah and the other Peninnah. And Peninnah had children, but Hannah had none.
എല്ക്കാനെക്കു രണ്ടു ഭാൎയ്യമാർ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; ഒരുത്തിക്കു ഹന്നാ എന്നും മറ്റേവൾക്കു പെനിന്നാ എന്നും പേർ; പെനിന്നെക്കു മക്കൾ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; ഹന്നെക്കോ മക്കൾ ഇല്ലായിരുന്നു.
3 Year after year Elkanah would go up from his city to worship and sacrifice to the LORD of Hosts at Shiloh, where Eli’s two sons, Hophni and Phinehas, were priests to the LORD.
അവൻ ശീലോവിൽ സൈന്യങ്ങളുടെ യഹോവയെ നമസ്കരിപ്പാനും അവന്നു യാഗം കഴിപ്പാനും തന്റെ പട്ടണത്തിൽനിന്നു ആണ്ടുതോറും ശീലോവിലേക്കു പോക പതിവായിരുന്നു; ഏലിയുടെ രണ്ടു പുത്രന്മാരായി യഹോവെക്കു പുരോഹിതന്മാരായിരുന്ന ഹൊഫ്നിയും ഫീനെഹാസും അവിടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.
4 And whenever the day came for Elkanah to present his sacrifice, he would give portions to his wife Peninnah and to all her sons and daughters.
എല്ക്കാനാ യാഗം കഴിക്കുമ്പോൾ ഒക്കെയും തന്റെ ഭാൎയ്യയായ പെനിന്നെക്കും അവളുടെ സകലപുത്രന്മാൎക്കും പുത്രിമാൎക്കും ഓഹരി കൊടുക്കും.
5 But to Hannah he would give a double portion, for he loved her even though the LORD had closed her womb.
ഹന്നെക്കോ അവൻ ഹന്നയെ സ്നേഹിക്കകൊണ്ടു ഇരട്ടി ഓഹരി കൊടുക്കും. എന്നാൽ യഹോവ അവളുടെ ഗൎഭം അടെച്ചിരിന്നു.
6 Because the LORD had closed Hannah’s womb, her rival would provoke her and taunt her viciously.
യഹോവ അവളുടെ ഗൎഭം അടെച്ചിരുന്നതിനാൽ അവളുടെ പ്രതിയോഗി അവളെ വ്യസനിപ്പിപ്പാൻ തക്കവണ്ണം വളരെ മുഷിപ്പിച്ചു.
7 And this went on year after year. Whenever Hannah went up to the house of the LORD, her rival taunted her until she wept and would not eat.
അവൾ യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തിലേക്കു പോകുന്ന സമയത്തൊക്കെയും ആണ്ടുതോറും അവൾ അങ്ങനെ ചെയ്തുപോന്നു. അവൾ അവളെ മുഷിപ്പിച്ചതുകൊണ്ടു അവൾ കരഞ്ഞു പട്ടിണികിടന്നു.
8 “Hannah, why are you crying?” her husband Elkanah asked. “Why won’t you eat? Why is your heart so grieved? Am I not better to you than ten sons?”
അവളുടെ ഭൎത്താവായ എല്ക്കാനാ അവളോടു: ഹന്നേ, നീ എന്തിന്നു കരയുന്നു? എന്തിന്നു പട്ടിണികിടക്കുന്നു? നീ വ്യസനിക്കുന്നതു എന്തു? ഞാൻ നിനക്കു പത്തു പുത്രന്മാരെക്കാൾ നന്നല്ലയോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
9 So after they had finished eating and drinking in Shiloh, Hannah stood up. Now Eli the priest was sitting on a chair by the doorpost of the temple of the LORD.
അവർ ശീലോവിൽവെച്ചു തിന്നുകയും കുടിക്കയും ചെയ്തശേഷം ഹന്നാ എഴുന്നേറ്റു പോയി. പുരോഹിതനായ ഏലി യഹോവയുടെ മന്ദിരത്തിന്റെ വാതില്ക്കൽ ആസനത്തിൽ ഇരിക്കയായിരുന്നു.
10 In her bitter distress, Hannah prayed to the LORD and wept with many tears.
അവൾ മനോവ്യസനത്തോടെ യഹോവയോടു പ്രാൎത്ഥിച്ചു വളരെ കരഞ്ഞു.
11 And she made a vow, pleading, “O LORD of Hosts, if only You will look upon the affliction of Your maidservant and remember me, not forgetting Your maidservant but giving her a son, then I will dedicate him to the LORD all the days of his life, and no razor shall ever come over his head.”
അവൾ ഒരു നേൎച്ച നേൎന്നു; സൈന്യങ്ങളുടെ യഹോവേ, അടിയന്റെ സങ്കടം നോക്കി അടിയനെ ഓൎക്കയും അടിയനെ മറക്കാതെ ഒരു പുരുഷസന്താനത്തെ നല്കുകയും ചെയ്താൽ അടിയൻ അവനെ അവന്റെ ജീവപൎയ്യന്തം യഹോവെക്കു കൊടുക്കും; അവന്റെ തലയിൽ ക്ഷൌരക്കത്തി തൊടുകയുമില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
12 As Hannah kept on praying before the LORD, Eli watched her mouth.
ഇങ്ങനെ അവൾ യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയിൽ പ്രാൎത്ഥിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുമ്പോൾ ഏലി അവളുടെ വായെ സൂക്ഷിച്ചു നോക്കി.
13 Hannah was praying in her heart, and though her lips were moving, her voice could not be heard. So Eli thought she was drunk
ഹന്നാ ഹൃദയംകൊണ്ടു സംസാരിച്ചതിനാൽ അവളുടെ അധരം അനങ്ങിയതല്ലാതെ ശബ്ദം കേൾപ്പാനില്ലായിരുന്നു; ആകയാൽ അവൾക്കു ലഹരിപിടിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു ഏലിക്കു തോന്നിപ്പോയി.
14 and said to her, “How long will you be drunk? Put away your wine!”
ഏലി അവളോടു: നീ എത്രത്തോളം ലഹരിപിടിച്ചിരിക്കും? നിന്റെ വീഞ്ഞു ഇറങ്ങട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
15 “No, my lord,” Hannah replied. “I am a woman oppressed in spirit. I have not had any wine or strong drink, but I have poured out my soul before the LORD.
അതിന്നു ഹന്നാ ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞതു: അങ്ങനെയല്ല, യജമാനനേ; ഞാൻ മനോവ്യസനമുള്ളൊരു സ്ത്രീ; ഞാൻ വീഞ്ഞോ മദ്യമോ കുടിച്ചിട്ടില്ല; യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയിൽ എന്റെ ഹൃദയം പകരുകയത്രേ ചെയ്തതു.
16 Do not take your servant for a wicked woman; for all this time I have been praying out of the depth of my anguish and grief.”
അടിയനെ ഒരു നീചസ്ത്രീയായി വിചാരിക്കരുതേ; അടിയൻ സങ്കടത്തിന്റെയും വ്യസനത്തിന്റെയും ആധിക്യംകൊണ്ടാകുന്നു സംസാരിച്ചതു.
17 “Go in peace,” Eli replied, “and may the God of Israel grant the petition you have asked of Him.”
അതിന്നു ഏലി: സമാധാനത്തോടെ പൊയ്ക്കൊൾക; യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവത്തോടു നീ കഴിച്ച അപേക്ഷ അവൻ നിനക്കു നല്കുമാറാകട്ടെ എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.
18 “May your maidservant find favor with you,” said Hannah. Then she went on her way, and she began eating again, and her face was no longer downcast.
അടിയന്നു തൃക്കണ്ണിൽ കൃപ ലഭിക്കുമാറാകട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു സ്ത്രീ തന്റെ വഴിക്കു പോയി ഭക്ഷണം കഴിച്ചു; അവളുടെ മുഖം പിന്നെ വാടിയതുമില്ല.
19 The next morning Elkanah and Hannah got up early to bow in worship before the LORD, and then returned home to Ramah. And Elkanah had relations with his wife Hannah, and the LORD remembered her.
അനന്തരം അവർ അതികാലത്തു എഴുന്നേറ്റു യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയിൽ നമസ്കരിച്ചശേഷം രാമയിൽ തങ്ങളുടെ വീട്ടിലേക്കു പോയി. എന്നാൽ എല്ക്കാനാ തന്റെ ഭാൎയ്യയായ ഹന്നയെ പരിഗ്രഹിച്ചു; യഹോവ അവളെ ഓൎത്തു.
20 So in the course of time, Hannah conceived and gave birth to a son. She named him Samuel, saying, “Because I have asked for him from the LORD.”
ഒരു ആണ്ടു കഴിഞ്ഞിട്ടു ഹന്നാ ഗൎഭംധരിച്ചു ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിച്ചു; ഞാൻ അവനെ യഹോവയോടു അപേക്ഷിച്ചുവാങ്ങി എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു അവന്നു ശമൂവേൽ എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.
21 Then Elkanah and all his house went up to make the annual sacrifice to the LORD and to fulfill his vow,
പിന്നെ എല്ക്കാനാ എന്ന പുരുഷനും അവന്റെ കുടുംബമൊക്കെയും യഹോവെക്കു വൎഷാന്തരയാഗവും നേൎച്ചയും കഴിപ്പാൻ പോയി.
22 but Hannah did not go. “After the boy is weaned,” she said to her husband, “I will take him to appear before the LORD and to stay there permanently.”
എന്നാൽ ഹന്നാ കൂടെപോയില്ല; അവൾ ഭൎത്താവിനോടു: ശിശുവിന്റെ മുലകുടി മാറട്ടെ; പിന്നെ അവൻ യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയിൽ ചെന്നു അവിടെ എന്നു പാൎക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ഞാൻ അവനെയും കൊണ്ടുപോരാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
23 “Do what you think is best,” her husband Elkanah replied, “and stay here until you have weaned him. Only may the LORD confirm His word.” So Hannah stayed and nursed her son until she had weaned him.
അവളുടെ ഭൎത്താവായ എല്ക്കാനാ അവളോടു: നിന്റെ ഇഷ്ടംപോലെയാകട്ടെ; അവന്റെ മുലകുടി മാറുംവരെ താമസിക്ക; യഹോവ തന്റെ വചനം നിവൎത്തിക്കുമാറാകട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ അവൾ വീട്ടിൽ താമസിച്ചു മുലകുടി മാറുംവരെ മകന്നു മുലകൊടുത്തു.
24 Once she had weaned him, Hannah took the boy with her, along with a three-year-old bull, an ephah of flour, and a skin of wine. Though the boy was still young, she brought him to the house of the LORD at Shiloh.
അവന്നു മുലകുടി മാറിയശേഷം അവൾ മൂന്നു വയസ്സു പ്രായമുള്ള ഒരു കാളയും ഒരു പറമാവും ഒരു തുരുത്തി വീഞ്ഞുമായി അവനെ ശീലോവിൽ യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുചെന്നു: ബാലനോ ചെറുപ്പമായിരുന്നു.
25 And when they had slaughtered the bull, they brought the boy to Eli.
അവർ കാളയെ അറുത്തിട്ടു ബാലനെ ഏലിയുടെ അടുക്കൽ കൊണ്ടുചെന്നു.
26 “Please, my lord,” said Hannah, “as surely as you live, my lord, I am the woman who stood here beside you praying to the LORD.
അവൾ അവനോടു പറഞ്ഞതു: യജമാനനേ; യജമാനനാണ, യഹോവയോടു പ്രാൎത്ഥിച്ചുകൊണ്ടു ഇവിടെ സമീപത്തു നിന്നിരുന്ന സ്ത്രീ ഞാൻ ആകുന്നു.
27 I prayed for this boy, and since the LORD has granted me what I asked of Him,
ഈ ബാലന്നായിട്ടു ഞാൻ പ്രാൎത്ഥിച്ചു; ഞാൻ യഹോവയോടു കഴിച്ച അപേക്ഷ യഹോവ എനിക്കു നല്കിയിരിക്കുന്നു.
28 I now dedicate the boy to the LORD. For as long as he lives, he is dedicated to the LORD.” So they worshiped the LORD there.
അതുകൊണ്ടു ഞാൻ അവനെ യഹോവെക്കു നിവേദിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; അവൻ ജീവപൎയ്യന്തം യഹോവെക്കു നിവേദിതനായിരിക്കും. അവർ അവിടെ യഹോവയെ നമസ്കരിച്ചു.
