1 Kings 19
1 Now Ahab told Jezebel everything that Elijah had done and how he had killed all the prophets with the sword.
Ahab contou a Jezebel tudo o que Elias havia feito, e como ele havia matado todos os profetas com a espada.
2 So Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, “May the gods deal with me, and ever so severely, if by this time tomorrow I do not make your life like the lives of those you killed!”
Então Jezebel enviou um mensageiro a Elias, dizendo: “Que os deuses me façam, e mais ainda, se eu não fizer de sua vida como a vida de um deles até amanhã por esta hora”!
3 And Elijah was afraid and ran for his life. When he came to Beersheba in Judah, he left his servant there,
Quando viu isso, ele se levantou e correu por sua vida, e veio para Beersheba, que pertence a Judah, e deixou seu servo lá.
4 while he himself traveled on a day’s journey into the wilderness. He sat down under a broom tree and prayed that he might die. “I have had enough, LORD,” he said. “Take my life, for I am no better than my fathers.”
Mas ele mesmo foi um dia de viagem ao deserto, e veio e sentou-se debaixo de um zimbro. Então ele pediu para si mesmo que pudesse morrer, e disse: “Basta”. Agora, ó Javé, tire minha vida; pois não sou melhor que meus pais”.
5 Then he lay down under the broom tree and fell asleep. Suddenly an angel touched him and said, “Get up and eat.”
Ele deitou-se e dormiu sob um zimbro; e eis que um anjo o tocou, e lhe disse: “Levanta-te e come!
6 And he looked around, and there by his head was a cake of bread baked over hot coals, and a jar of water. So he ate and drank and lay down again.
Ele olhou, e eis que havia em sua cabeça um bolo assado no carvão, e um pote de água. Ele comeu e bebeu, e deitou-se novamente.
7 A second time the angel of the LORD returned and touched him, saying, “Get up and eat, or the journey will be too much for you.”
O anjo de Yahweh veio novamente pela segunda vez, tocou-o e disse: “Levanta-te e come, porque a viagem é grande demais para ti”.
8 So he got up and ate and drank. And strengthened by that food, he walked forty days and forty nights until he reached Horeb, the mountain of God.
Ele se levantou, comeu e bebeu, e foi na força dessa comida durante quarenta dias e quarenta noites para Horeb, a Montanha de Deus.
9 There Elijah entered a cave and spent the night. And the word of the LORD came to him, saying, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”
Ele chegou a uma caverna ali, e acampou ali; e eis que a palavra de Javé chegou até ele, e ele lhe disse: “O que você está fazendo aqui, Elias”?
10 “I have been very zealous for the LORD, the God of Hosts,” he replied, “but the Israelites have forsaken Your covenant, torn down Your altars, and killed Your prophets with the sword. I am the only one left, and they are seeking my life as well.”
Ele disse: “Tenho sido muito zeloso por Javé, o Deus dos Exércitos; pois os filhos de Israel abandonaram seu pacto, derrubaram seus altares e mataram seus profetas com a espada. Eu, até mesmo eu só, fico; e eles procuram minha vida, para tirá-la”.
11 Then the LORD said, “Go out and stand on the mountain before the LORD. Behold, the LORD is about to pass by.” And a great and mighty wind tore into the mountains and shattered the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake.
Ele disse: “Saia e fique na montanha antes de Yahweh”. Eis que Javé passou, e um grande e forte vento rasgou as montanhas e quebrou as rochas antes de Javé; mas Javé não estava no vento. Após o vento houve um terremoto; mas Javé não estava no terremoto.
12 After the earthquake there was a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a still, small voice.
Após o terremoto passou um incêndio; mas Iavé não estava no incêndio. Após o incêndio, havia uma voz ainda pequena.
13 When Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his cloak and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave. Suddenly a voice came to him and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”
Quando Elias a ouviu, envolveu seu rosto em seu manto, saiu e ficou de pé na entrada da caverna. Eis que uma voz veio até ele e disse: “O que você está fazendo aqui, Elijah”?
14 “I have been very zealous for the LORD, the God of Hosts,” he replied, “but the Israelites have forsaken Your covenant, torn down Your altars, and killed Your prophets with the sword. I am the only one left, and they are seeking my life as well.”
Ele disse: “Tenho sido muito zeloso por Javé, o Deus dos Exércitos; pois os filhos de Israel abandonaram seu pacto, derrubaram seus altares e mataram seus profetas com a espada. Eu, até mesmo eu só, fico; e eles procuram minha vida, para tirá-la”.
15 Then the LORD said to him, “Go back by the way you came, and go to the Desert of Damascus. When you arrive, you are to anoint Hazael as king over Aram.
Yahweh disse-lhe: “Vá, volte a caminho do deserto de Damasco”. Quando chegar, ungir Hazael para ser rei sobre a Síria”.
16 You are also to anoint Jehu son of Nimshi as king over Israel and Elisha son of Shaphat from Abel-meholah to succeed you as prophet.
Ungir Jeú, filho de Ninshi, para ser rei sobre Israel; e ungir Eliseu, filho de Safate, de Abel-Meolá, para ser profeta em seu lugar.
17 Then Jehu will put to death whoever escapes the sword of Hazael, and Elisha will put to death whoever escapes the sword of Jehu.
Aquele que escapar da espada de Hazael, Jeú matará; e aquele que escapar da espada de Jeú, Eliseu matará.
18 Nevertheless, I have reserved seven thousand in Israel—all whose knees have not bowed to Baal and whose mouths have not kissed him.”
Contudo, reservei sete mil em Israel, todos os joelhos dos quais não se curvaram diante de Baal, e toda boca que não o beijou”.
19 So Elijah departed and found Elisha son of Shaphat. He was plowing with twelve teams of oxen, and he was with the twelfth team. Elijah passed by him and threw his cloak around him.
Então ele partiu de lá e encontrou Elisha, o filho de Shaphat, que estava lavrando com doze juizes de bois antes dele, e ele com a décima segunda. Elias foi até ele e colocou seu manto sobre ele.
20 So Elisha left the oxen, ran after Elijah, and said, “Please let me kiss my father and mother goodbye, and then I will follow you.” “Go on back,” Elijah replied, “for what have I done to you?”
Elisha deixou os bois e correu atrás de Elias, e disse: “Deixe-me por favor beijar meu pai e minha mãe, e então eu o seguirei”. Ele lhe disse: “Volte novamente; pelo que eu fiz a você”?
21 So Elisha turned back from him, took his pair of oxen, and slaughtered them. With the oxen’s equipment, he cooked the meat and gave it to the people, and they ate. Then he set out to follow and serve Elijah.
Ele voltou de segui-lo, pegou o jugo dos bois, matou-os e cozinhou sua carne com o equipamento dos bois, e deu ao povo; e eles comeram. Então ele se levantou, e foi atrás de Elias, e o serviu.
