1 Kings 17
1 Now Elijah the Tishbite, who was among the settlers of Gilead, said to Ahab, “As surely as the LORD lives—the God of Israel before whom I stand—there will be neither dew nor rain in these years except at my word!”
১গিলিয়দের তিশ্বী গ্রামের এলিয় আহাবকে বললেন, “আমি যাঁর সেবা করি ইস্রায়েলীয়দের সেই জীবন্ত ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুর দিব্যি দিয়ে বলছি যে, আমি না বলা পর্যন্ত আগামী কয়েক বছরে শিশির পড়বে না, বৃষ্টিও হবে না।”
2 Then a revelation from the LORD came to Elijah:
২পরে সদাপ্রভু এলিয়কে বললেন,
3 “Leave here, turn eastward, and hide yourself by the Brook of Cherith, east of the Jordan.
৩“তুমি এই জায়গা ছেড়ে পূর্ব দিকে যাও এবং যর্দ্দনের পূর্ব দিকে করীৎ স্রোতের ধারে লুকিয়ে থাক।
4 And you are to drink from the brook, and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there.”
৪তুমি সেই স্রোতের জল খাবে আর সেখানে তোমাকে খাবার দেবার জন্য আমি দাঁড়কাকদের আদেশ দিয়েছি।”
5 So Elijah did what the LORD had told him, and he went and lived by the Brook of Cherith, east of the Jordan.
৫কাজেই সদাপ্রভু এলিয়কে যা বললেন তিনি তাই করলেন। তিনি যর্দ্দনের পূর্ব দিকে করীৎ স্রোতের ধারে গিয়ে থাকতে লাগলেন।
6 The ravens would bring him bread and meat in the morning and evening, and he would drink from the brook.
৬দাঁড়কাকেরা সকালে ও বিকালে তাঁর জন্য রুটি ও মাংস আনত এবং তিনি সেই স্রোতের জল খেতেন।
7 Some time later, however, the brook dried up because there had been no rain in the land.
৭দেশে বৃষ্টি না হওয়াতে কিছুকাল পরে সেই স্রোতের জল শুকিয়ে গেল।
8 Then the word of the LORD came to Elijah:
৮পরে তাঁর কাছে সদাপ্রভুর এই বাক্য এল,
9 “Get up and go to Zarephath of Sidon, and stay there. Behold, I have commanded a widow there to provide for you.”
৯“তুমি উঠ, এখন সীদোনের সারিফতে গিয়ে থাক। তোমাকে খাবার জোগাবার জন্য আমি সেখানকার এক বিধবাকে আজ্ঞা দিয়েছি।”
10 So Elijah got up and went to Zarephath. When he arrived at the city gate, there was a widow gathering sticks. Elijah called to her and said, “Please bring me a little water in a cup, so that I may drink.”
১০তখন তিনি উঠে সারিফতে গেলেন; আর যখন সেই শহরের দরজায় আসলেন, দেখ, সেই জায়গায় এক বিধবা কাঠ কুড়াচ্ছে। তিনি তাকে ডেকে বললেন, “অনুরোধ করি, তুমি একটি পাত্রে করে সামান্য জল আন, আমি পান করব”
11 And as she was going to get it, he called to her and said, “Please bring me a piece of bread.”
১১সেই স্ত্রীলোকটী যখন জল আনতে যাচ্ছিল তখন তিনি তাকে ডেকে বললেন, “অনুরোধ করি, আমার জন্য এক টুকরো রুটি হাতে করে আন।”
12 But she replied, “As surely as the LORD your God lives, I have no bread—only a handful of flour in a jar and a little oil in a jug. Look, I am gathering a couple of sticks to take home and prepare a meal for myself and my son, so that we may eat it and die.”
১২উত্তরে সেই বিধবা বলল, “আপনার ঈশ্বর জীবন্ত সদাপ্রভুর দিব্যি দিয়ে বলছি যে, আমার কাছে একটাও রুটি নেই। পাত্রে কেবল এক মুঠো ময়দা আর ভাঁড়ে একটুখানি তেল রয়েছে। বাড়ি নিয়ে যাবার জন্য আমি কতগুলো কাঠ কুড়াচ্ছি; তা দিয়ে আমার ও আমার ছেলের জন্য কিছু খাবার তৈরী করব। তারপর তা খাওয়ার পরে আমরা উপবাসে মরব।”
13 “Do not be afraid,” Elijah said to her. “Go and do as you have said. But first make me a small cake of bread from what you have, and bring it out to me. Afterward, make some for yourself and your son,
১৩এলিয় তাকে বললেন, “ভয় কোরো না। যা বললে, তাই কর গিয়ে, কিন্তু প্রথমে তা থেকে আমার জন্য একটি ছোট রুটি তৈরী করে আনো; পরে নিজের ও ছেলেটির জন্য তৈরী কর।
14 for this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘The jar of flour will not be exhausted and the jug of oil will not run dry until the day the LORD sends rain upon the face of the earth.’”
১৪কারণ ইস্রায়েলের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভু এই কথা বলেন, সদাপ্রভু পৃথিবীতে বৃষ্টি না দেওয়া পর্যন্ত ঐ ময়দার পাত্রটাও খালি হবে না আর তেলের ভাঁড়ও খালি হবে না।”
15 So she went and did according to the word of Elijah, and there was food every day for Elijah and the woman and her household.
১৫তাতে সে গিয়ে এলিয়ের কথামত করল; আর সে ও এলিয় এবং সেই স্ত্রীলোকের আত্মীয় অনেক দিন পর্যন্ত খেল।
16 The jar of flour was not exhausted and the jug of oil did not run dry, according to the word that the LORD had spoken through Elijah.
১৬এলিয়ের মধ্য দিয়ে সদাপ্রভু যে কথা বলেছিলেন সেই অনুসারে ঐ ময়দার পাত্রটাও খালি হল না, তেলের ভাঁড়ও খালি হল না।
17 Later, the son of the woman who owned the house became ill, and his sickness grew worse and worse, until no breath remained in him.
১৭এই সব ঘটনার পরে সেই স্ত্রীলোক, যে বাড়ির মালিক তার ছেলে অসুস্থ হল এবং তার অসুখ এমন বেশি হল যে, তার শরীরে আর শ্বাসবায়ু থাকল না।
18 “O man of God,” said the woman to Elijah, “what have you done to me? Have you come to remind me of my iniquity and cause the death of my son?”
১৮স্ত্রীলোকটী তখন এলিয়কে বলল, “হে ঈশ্বরের লোক, আপনার সঙ্গে আমার কি করার আছে? আপনি কি আমাকে আমার পাপের কথা মনে করিয়ে দিতে আর আমার ছেলেকে মেরে ফেলতে এসেছেন?”
19 But Elijah said to her, “Give me your son.” So he took him from her arms, carried him to the upper room where he was staying, and laid him on his own bed.
১৯তিনি তাকে বললেন, “তোমার ছেলেকে আমার কাছে দাও।” পরে তিনি ছেলেটিকে সেই স্ত্রীলোকের কোল থেকে নিয়ে উপরের নিজের থাকবার ঘরে গিয়ে নিজের বিছানায় শুইয়ে দিলেন।
20 Then he cried out to the LORD, “O LORD my God, have You also brought tragedy on this widow who has opened her home to me, by causing her son to die?”
২০আর তিনি সদাপ্রভুকে ডেকে বললেন, “হে সদাপ্রভু, আমার ঈশ্বর, আমি যে বিধবার বাড়িতে থাকি তার ছেলেকে মেরে ফেলে তারও উপরে বিপদ নিয়ে আসলে?”
21 Then he stretched himself out over the child three times and cried out to the LORD, “O LORD my God, please let this boy’s life return to him!”
২১তারপর তিনি তিন বার ছেলেটির উপরে লম্বা হয়ে শুয়ে সদাপ্রভুকে ডেকে বললেন, “হে সদাপ্রভু আমার ঈশ্বর, অনুরোধ করি, ছেলেটির প্রাণ তার মধ্যে ফিরে আসুক।”
22 And the LORD listened to the voice of Elijah, and the child’s life returned to him, and he lived.
২২তখন সদাপ্রভু এলিয়ের কথা শুনলেন তাতে ছেলেটির প্রাণ তার মধ্যে ফিরে আসল আর সে বেঁচে উঠল।
23 Then Elijah took the child, brought him down from the upper room into the house, and gave him to his mother. “Look, your son is alive,” Elijah declared.
২৩পরে এলিয় ছেলেটিকে তুলে নিয়ে উপরের ঘর থেকে নীচে নেমে তাকে তার মায়ের কাছে দিয়ে বললেন, “দেখ, তোমার ছেলে বেঁচে আছে।”
24 Then the woman said to Elijah, “Now I know that you are a man of God and that the word of the LORD from your mouth is truth.”
২৪তাতে সেই স্ত্রীলোকটী এলিয়কে বলল, “আমি এখন জানতে পারলাম আপনি ঈশ্বরের লোক এবং সদাপ্রভু আপনার মধ্য দিয়ে যা বলেন তা সত্য।”
