1 Kings 16

1 Then the word of the LORD came to Jehu son of Hanani against Baasha, saying:

Et la parole du Seigneur vint à Jéhu, fils d'Anani; celui-ci dit à Baasa:

2 “Even though I lifted you out of the dust and made you ruler over My people Israel, you have walked in the way of Jeroboam and have caused My people Israel to sin and to provoke Me to anger by their sins.

En punition de ce qu'après avoir été, par moi, tiré de la poussière et élevé sur le trône d'Israël, tu as marché dans la voie de Jéroboam, tu as fait tomber dans le péché tout mon peuple d'Israël, qui, par ses vanités, a excité ma colère,

3 So now I will consume Baasha and his house, and I will make your house like that of Jeroboam son of Nebat:

Je susciterai des ennemis contre toi Baasa et contre toute ta maison, et je leur livrerai ta maison comme je t'ai livré la maison de Jéroboam, fils de Nabat.

4 Anyone belonging to Baasha who dies in the city will be eaten by dogs, and anyone who dies in the field will be eaten by the birds of the air.”

Les chiens dévoreront celui du sang de Baasa qui mourra dans la ville; et les oiseaux du ciel dévoreront celui qui mourra dans les champs.

5 As for the rest of the acts of Baasha, along with his accomplishments and might, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?

Quant au reste de l'histoire de Baasa, n'est-il pas écrit au livre des Faits et gestes des rois d'Israël?

6 And Baasha rested with his fathers and was buried in Tirzah, and his son Elah reigned in his place.

Et Baasa s'endormit avec ses pères; il fut enseveli à Thersa, et son fils régna à sa place.

7 Moreover, the word of the LORD came through the prophet Jehu son of Hanani against Baasha and his house, because of all the evil he had done in the sight of the LORD, provoking Him to anger with the work of his hands and becoming like the house of Jeroboam, and also because Baasha had struck down the house of Jeroboam.

Or, le Seigneur avait parlé par la voix de Jéhu, fils d'Anani, contre Baasa et sa maison, à cause de tout le mal qu'il avait fait devant le Seigneur, pour irriter le Seigneur par les œuvres de ses mains, et pour que sa maison devînt comme celle de Jéroboam; et Baasa avait tué Jéhu.

8 In the twenty-sixth year of Asa’s reign over Judah, Elah son of Baasha became king of Israel, and he reigned in Tirzah two years.

Et Ela, fils de Baasa, régna deux ans sur Israël, à Thersa.

9 However, while Elah was in Tirzah getting drunk in the house of Arza the steward of his household there, Elah’s servant Zimri, the commander of half his chariots, conspired against him.

Et Zambri, chef de la moitié de sa cavalerie, se révolta contre lui; comme il était à boire, et déjà ivre, dans la maison d'Osa, son économe, à Thersa,

10 So in the twenty-seventh year of Asa’s reign over Judah, Zimri went in, struck Elah down, and killed him. And Zimri reigned in his place.

Zambri entra, le frappa, le tua, et régna à sa place.

11 As soon as Zimri began to reign and was seated on the throne, he struck down the entire household of Baasha. He did not leave a single male, whether a kinsman or friend.

Et, aussitôt qu'il fut proclamé roi, et qu'il se fut assis sur le trône,

12 So Zimri destroyed the entire household of Baasha, according to the word that the LORD had spoken against Baasha through Jehu the prophet.

Il extermina toute la famille de Baasa, selon la parole qu'avait dite le Seigneur sur la maison de Baasa, par la voix de Jéhu le prophète,

13 This happened because of all the sins Baasha and his son Elah had committed and had caused Israel to commit, provoking the LORD, the God of Israel, to anger with their worthless idols.

Concernant les péchés de Baasa et de son fils Ela, et le péché où ils avaient fait tomber Israël, qui, par ses vanités, avait irrité le Seigneur.

14 As for the rest of the acts of Elah, along with all his accomplishments, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?

Quant au reste de l'histoire d'Ela, n'est-il pas écrit au livre des faits et gestes des rois d'Israël?

15 In the twenty-seventh year of Asa’s reign over Judah, Zimri reigned in Tirzah for seven days. Now the troops were encamped against Gibbethon of the Philistines,

Zambri régna sept jours à Thersa; alors, Israël était campé devant Gabathon, ville des Philistins.

16 and the people in the camp heard that Zimri had not only conspired but had also struck down the king. So there in the camp that very day, all Israel proclaimed Omri, the commander of the army, king over Israel.

Et le peuple mût dans le camp que l'on disait: Zambri s'est révolté et il a tué le roi; aussitôt, le peuple d'Israël proclama roi Ambri, qui, ce jour-là, commandait l'armée et le camp.

17 Then Omri and all the Israelites marched up from Gibbethon and besieged Tirzah.

Et Ambri, avec tout Israël, partit de Gabathon, et il assiégea Thersa.

18 When Zimri saw that the city was captured, he entered the citadel of the royal palace and burned it down upon himself. So he died

Quand Zambri vit que sa ville était prise, il se réfugia dans un souterrain de son palais; puis, il brûla sur lui le palais, et il mourut,

19 because of the sins he had committed, doing evil in the sight of the LORD and following the example of Jeroboam and the sin he had committed and had caused Israel to commit.

A cause des péchés qu'il avait commis en faisant le mal devant le Seigneur, en faisait tomber Israël dans le péché, et en marchant dans la voie de Jéroboam.

20 As for the rest of the acts of Zimri and the treason he committed, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?

Pour le reste de l'histoire de Zambri, n'est-il pas écrit au livre des Faits et gestes des rois d'Israël?

21 At that time the people of Israel were divided: Half of the people supported Tibni son of Ginath as king, and half supported Omri.

Alors, le peuple d'Israël se divisa: la moitié voulut pour roi Thamni, fils de Gonath; l'autre moitié, Ambri.

22 But the followers of Omri proved stronger than those of Tibni son of Ginath. So Tibni died and Omri became king.

Le peuple qui suivait Ambri l'emporta sur le peuple qui suivait Thamni, fils de Gonath; Thamni mourut, en ce temps-là, ainsi que Joram, son frère, et Ambri régna après Thamni.

23 In the thirty-first year of Asa’s reign over Judah, Omri became king of Israel, and he reigned twelve years, six of them in Tirzah.

En la trente et unième année du règne d'Asa en Juda, Ambri fut reconnu roi d'Israël; il régna douze ans, dont six à Thersa.

24 He bought the hill of Samaria from Shemer for two talents of silver and built a city there, calling it Samaria after the name of Shemer, who had owned the hill.

Et Ambri acheta la montagne de Samarie, de Samar, qui était maître de cette montagne, au prix de deux talents d'argent; il bâtit sur la montagne une ville qu'il appela Samarie, du nom de celui qui la lui avait vendue.

25 But Omri did evil in the sight of the LORD and acted more wickedly than all who were before him.

Et Ambri fit le mal devant le Seigneur; il fit le mal plus que tous ceux qui avaient régné avant lui.

26 For he walked in all the ways of Jeroboam son of Nebat and in his sins, which he caused Israel to commit, provoking the LORD, the God of Israel, to anger with their worthless idols.

Il marcha dans toutes les voies de Jéroboam, fils de Nabat, et dans les péchés où il avait fait tomber tout Israël qui, par ses vanités, avait irrité le Seigneur.

27 As for the rest of the acts of Omri, along with his accomplishments and the might he exercised, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?

Quant au reste de l'histoire d'Ambri, aux actions qu'il fit dans sa puissance, ne sont-ils pas écrits au livre des Faits et gestes des rois d'Israël?

28 And Omri rested with his fathers and was buried in Samaria, and his son Ahab reigned in his place.

Et Ambri s'endormit avec ses pères; il fut inhumé à Samarie, et; son fils Achab régna à sa place.

29 In the thirty-eighth year of Asa’s reign over Judah, Ahab son of Omri became king of Israel, and he reigned in Samaria twenty-two years.

La seconde année du règne de Josaphat en Juda, Achab commença, dans Samarie, un règne de vingt-deux ans.

30 However, Ahab son of Omri did evil in the sight of the LORD, more than all who were before him.

Et Achab fit le mal devant le Seigneur; il fit le mal plus que tous ceux qui avaient régné avant lui.

31 And as if it were not enough for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, he even married Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal king of the Sidonians, and he then proceeded to serve and worship Baal.

Il ne lui suffit pas de marcher dans les péchés de Jéroboam, fils de Nabat; il prit pour femme Jézabel, fille d'Ethbaal, roi des Sidoniens; il l'imita, il servit Baal, et l'adora.

32 First, Ahab set up an altar for Baal in the temple of Baal that he had built in Samaria.

Et il éleva un autel à Baal dans le temple d'abomination qu'il avait bâti à Samarie.

33 Then he set up an Asherah pole. Thus Ahab did more to provoke the LORD, the God of Israel, to anger than all the kings of Israel before him.

Il planta un bois sacré, et il continua ses abominations pour irriter le Seigneur et perdre son âme. Il fit le mal plus que tous ceux qui, avant lui, avaient régné sur Israël.

34 In Ahab’s days, Hiel the Bethelite rebuilt Jericho. At the cost of Abiram his firstborn he laid its foundation, and at the cost of Segub his youngest he set up its gates, according to the word that the LORD had spoken through Joshua son of Nun.

En ces jours-là, Achiel le Béthélite rebâtit Jéricho en sacrifiant son premier-né, Abiron, qui mourut comme il jetait les fondations; et Segub, le plus jeune de ses fils, qui mourut quand il posa les portes, selon la parole que le Seigneur avait dite par la voix de Josué, fils de Nau.
