< 1 Chronicles 9 >
1 So all Israel was recorded in the genealogies written in the Book of the Kings of Israel. But Judah was exiled to Babylon because of their unfaithfulness.
And all [those of] Israel have reckoned themselves by genealogy, and behold, they are written on the scroll of the kings of Israel and Judah—they were removed to Babylon for their trespass.
2 Now the first to resettle their own property in their cities were Israelites, priests, Levites, and temple servants.
And the first inhabitants, who [are] in their possession, in their cities, of Israel, [are] the priests, the Levites, and the Nethinim.
3 These were some of the descendants of Judah, Benjamin, Ephraim, and Manasseh who lived in Jerusalem:
And those who dwelt in Jerusalem of the sons of Judah, and of the sons of Benjamin, and of the sons of Ephraim and Manasseh:
4 Uthai son of Ammihud, the son of Omri, the son of Imri, the son of Bani, a descendant of Perez son of Judah.

5 From the Shilonites: Asaiah the firstborn and his sons.
And of the Shilonite: Asaiah the firstborn, and his sons.
6 From the Zerahites: Jeuel and 690 relatives.
And of the sons of Zerah: Jeuel, and their brothers—six hundred and ninety.
7 From the Benjamites: Sallu son of Meshullam, the son of Hodaviah, the son of Hassenuah;
And of the sons of Benjamin: Sallu son of Meshullam, son of Hodaviah, son of Hassenuah,
8 Ibneiah son of Jeroham; Elah son of Uzzi, the son of Michri; Meshullam son of Shephatiah, the son of Reuel, the son of Ibnijah;
and Ibneiah son of Jeroham, and Elah son of Uzzi, son of Michri, and Meshullam son of Shephatiah, son of Reuel, son of Ibnijah.
9 and 956 of their relatives according to their genealogy. All these men were heads of their families.
And their brothers, according to their generations, [are] nine hundred and fifty-six. All these [are] men, heads of fathers, according to the house of their fathers.
10 From the priests: Jedaiah, Jehoiarib, and Jachin;
And of the priests: Jedaiah, and Jehoiarib, and Jachin,
11 Azariah son of Hilkiah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Zadok, the son of Meraioth, the son of Ahitub, the chief official of God’s temple;
and Azariah son of Hilkiah, son of Meshullam, son of Zadok, son of Meraioth, son of Ahitub, leader in the house of God;
12 Adaiah son of Jeroham, the son of Pashhur, the son of Malchijah; Maasai son of Adiel, the son of Jahzerah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Meshillemith, the son of Immer;
and Adaiah son of Jeroham, son of Pashhur, son of Malchijah, and Maasai son of Adiel, son of Jahzerah, son of Meshullam, son of Meshillemith, son of Immer.
13 and 1,760 of their relatives, the heads of their families, able men for the work of the service of the house of God.
And their brothers, heads of the house of their fathers, [are] one thousand and seven hundred and sixty, mighty in valor, for the work of the service of the house of God.
14 From the Levites: Shemaiah son of Hasshub, the son of Azrikam, the son of Hashabiah, a descendant of Merari;
And of the Levites: Shemaiah son of Hashshub, son of Azrikam, son of Hashabiah, of the sons of Merari;
15 Bakbakkar, Heresh, Galal, and Mattaniah son of Mica, the son of Zichri, the son of Asaph;
and Bakbakkar, Heresh, and Galal, and Mattaniah son of Micah, son of Zichri, son of Asaph;
16 Obadiah son of Shemaiah, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun; and Berechiah son of Asa, the son of Elkanah, who lived in the villages of the Netophathites.
and Obadiah son of Shemariah, son of Galal, son of Jeduthun, and Berechiah, son of Asa, son of Elkanah, who is dwelling in the villages of the Netophathite.
17 These were the gatekeepers: Shallum, Akkub, Talmon, Ahiman, and their relatives. Shallum was their chief;
And the gatekeepers [are] Shallum, and Akkub, and Talmon, and Ahiman, and their brothers—Shallum [is] the head;
18 he was previously stationed at the King’s Gate on the east side. These were the gatekeepers from the camp of the Levites.
and until now they [are] at the gate of the king eastward; they [are] the gatekeepers for the companies of the sons of Levi.
19 Shallum son of Kore, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah, and his relatives from the Korahites were assigned to guard the thresholds of the Tent, just as their fathers had been assigned to guard the entrance to the dwelling of the LORD.
And Shallum son of Kore, son of Ebiasaph, son of Korah, and his brothers, of the house of his father, the Korahites, [are] over the work of the service, keepers of the thresholds of the tent, and their fathers [are] over the camp of YHWH, keepers of the entrance;
20 In earlier times Phinehas son of Eleazar had been in charge of the gatekeepers, and the LORD was with him.
and Phinehas son of Eleazar has been leader over them formerly; YHWH [is] with him.
21 Zechariah son of Meshelemiah was the gatekeeper at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.
Zechariah son of Meshelemiah [is] gatekeeper at the opening of the Tent of Meeting.
22 The number of those chosen to be gatekeepers at the thresholds was 212. They were registered by genealogy in their villages. David and Samuel the seer had appointed them to their positions of trust.
All of those who are chosen for gatekeepers at the thresholds [are] two hundred and twelve; they [are] in their villages, by their genealogy; they whom David and Samuel the seer appointed in their office.
23 So they and their descendants were assigned to guard the gates of the house of the LORD—the house called the Tent.
And they and their sons [are] over the gates of the house of YHWH, even of the house of the tent, by watches.
24 The gatekeepers were stationed on the four sides: east, west, north, and south.
The gatekeepers are at [the] four sides: east, west, north, and south.
25 Their relatives came from their villages at fixed times to serve with them for seven-day periods.
And their brothers in their villages [are] to come in with these for seven days from time to time.
26 But the four chief gatekeepers, who were Levites, were entrusted with the rooms and the treasuries of the house of God.
For the four chiefs of the gatekeepers in office, they are Levites, and they have been over the chambers, and over the treasuries of the house of God,
27 They would spend the night stationed around the house of God, because they were responsible for guarding it and opening it every morning.
and they lodge around the house of God, for the watch [is] on them, and they [are] over the opening, even morning by morning.
28 Some of them were in charge of the articles used in worship, to count them whenever they were brought in or taken out.
And [some] of them [are] over the vessels of service, for they bring them in by number, and by number they take them out.
29 Others were put in charge of the furnishings and other articles of the sanctuary, as well as the fine flour, wine, oil, frankincense, and spices.
And [some] of them are appointed over the vessels, even over all the vessels of the holy place, and over the fine flour, and the wine, and the oil, and the frankincense, and the spices.
30 And some of the sons of the priests mixed the spices.
And [some] of the sons of the priests are mixing the mixture for spices.
31 A Levite named Mattithiah, the firstborn son of Shallum the Korahite, was entrusted with baking the bread.
And Mattithiah of the Levites (he [is] the firstborn to Shallum the Korahite), [is] in office over the work of the pans.
32 Some of their Kohathite brothers were responsible for preparing the rows of the showbread every Sabbath.
And of the sons of the Kohathite, [some] of their brothers [are] over the bread of the arrangement, to prepare [it] Sabbath by Sabbath.
33 Those who were musicians, the heads of Levite families, stayed in the temple chambers and were exempt from other duties because they were on duty day and night.
And these who sing, heads of fathers of the Levites, in the chambers, [are] free, for [they are] over them in the work by day and by night.
34 All these were heads of Levite families, chiefs according to their genealogies, and they lived in Jerusalem.
These heads of the fathers of the Levites [are] heads throughout their generations. These have dwelt in Jerusalem.
35 Jeiel the father of Gibeon lived in Gibeon. His wife’s name was Maacah.
And the father of Gibeon, Jehiel, has dwelt in Gibeon, and the name of his wife [is] Maachah;
36 Abdon was his firstborn son, then Zur, Kish, Baal, Ner, Nadab,
and his son, the firstborn, [is] Abdon, and Zur, and Kish, and Ba‘al, and Ner, and Nadab,
37 Gedor, Ahio, Zechariah, and Mikloth.
and Gedor, and Ahio, and Zechariah, and Mikloth.
38 Mikloth was the father of Shimeam. They too lived alongside their relatives in Jerusalem.
And Mikloth begot Shimeam, and they have also dwelt opposite their brothers—with their brothers in Jerusalem.
39 Ner was the father of Kish, Kish was the father of Saul, and Saul was the father of Jonathan, Malchishua, Abinadab, and Esh-baal.
And Ner begot Kish, and Kish begot Saul, and Saul begot Jonathan, and Malchi-Shua, and Abinadab, and Esh-Ba‘al.
40 The son of Jonathan: Merib-baal, who was the father of Micah.
And a son of Jonathan [is] Merib-Ba‘al, and Merib-Ba‘al begot Micah.
41 The sons of Micah: Pithon, Melech, Tahrea, and Ahaz.
And sons of Micah: Pithon, and Melech, and Tahrea,
42 Ahaz was the father of Jarah; Jarah was the father of Alemeth, Azmaveth, and Zimri; and Zimri was the father of Moza.
and Ahaz—he begot Jaarah, and Jaarah begot Alemeth, and Azmaveth, and Zimri, and Zimri begot Moza,
43 Moza was the father of Binea. Rephaiah was his son, Elasah his son, and Azel his son.
and Moza begot Binea, and Rephaiah his son, Eleasah his son, Azel his son.
44 And Azel had six sons, and these were their names: Azrikam, Bocheru, Ishmael, Sheariah, Obadiah, and Hanan. These were the sons of Azel.
And to Azel [are] six sons, and these [are] their names: Azrikam, Bocheru, and Ishmael, and Sheariah, and Obadiah, and Hanan; these [are] sons of Azel.
