Matthew 14
1 At that time Herod the tetrarch heard of the fame of Jesus;
౧ఆ సమయాన రాష్ట్రాధికారి హేరోదు యేసు గురించిన వార్త విని,
2 and he said to his servants: This is John The Immerser; he has risen from the dead; and for this reason the powers of the spiritual world are active within him.
౨“ఇతడు బాప్తిసమిచ్చే యోహాను, చనిపోయి తిరిగి లేచాడు. అందుకే అతని ద్వారా అద్భుతాలు జరుగుతున్నాయి” అని తన సేవకులతో చెప్పాడు.
3 For Herod had laid hold of John, and bound him, and put him in prison on account of Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip.
౩అంతకు పూర్వం, “నీవు నీ సోదరుడు ఫిలిప్పు భార్య హేరోదియను ఉంచుకోవడం న్యాయం కాదు” అని యోహాను చెప్పినందుకు
4 For John said to him: It is not lawful for you to have her.
౪హేరోదు ఆమె కోసం యోహానును బంధించి ఖైదులో వేయించాడు.
5 And he intended to put him to death, but feared the multitude, because they regarded him as a prophet.
౫హేరోదు అతన్ని చంపాలనుకున్నాడు గాని ప్రజలు అతన్ని ప్రవక్తగా భావించారు కాబట్టి వారికి భయపడ్డాడు.
6 But when Herod’s birthday was kept, the daughter of Herodias danced in the midst, and pleased Herod.
౬హేరోదు పుట్టిన రోజున హేరోదియ కూతురు వారి ఎదుట నాట్యం చేసి హేరోదును మెప్పించింది.
7 Wherefore he promised, with an oath, to give her whatever she would ask.
౭కాబట్టి ఆమె ఏమి అడిగినా ఇస్తానని అతడు ఒట్టు పెట్టి మాట ఇచ్చాడు.
8 And being previously instigated by her mother, she said: Give me here in a dish the head of John the Immerser?
౮తన తల్లి ఆమెకిచ్చిన సూచన ప్రకారం, “బాప్తిసమిచ్చే యోహాను తల ఇక్కడ పళ్ళెంలో పెట్టి నాకు ఇప్పించు” అని అడిగింది.
9 And the king was grieved: but on account of his oath, and those who reclined at table with him, he commanded it to be given.
౯ఆమె అభ్యర్ధనకు రాజు ఎంతో కలత చెందినా తాను ఇచ్చిన మాట కోసం, తనతో బాటు విందులో కూర్చున్న వారి కోసం అలా జరగాలని ఆజ్ఞాపించాడు.
10 And he sent and beheaded John in the prison.
౧౦భటులను పంపి ఖైదులో ఉన్న యోహాను తల నరికించాడు.
11 And his head was brought in a dish, and given to the maiden: and she carried it to her mother.
౧౧వారు అతని తల ఒక పళ్ళెంలో పెట్టి తెచ్చి ఆ అమ్మాయికి ఇచ్చారు. ఆమె తన తల్లికి ఇచ్చింది.
12 And his disciples came and took away the body, and buried it; and went and told Jesus.
౧౨యోహాను శిష్యులు వచ్చి శవాన్ని తీసుకుపోయి పాతిపెట్టారు. ఆ తరువాత యేసు దగ్గరికి వెళ్ళి ఈ సంగతి తెలియజేశారు.
13 And when Jesus heard of it, he withdrew from that place, by ship, into a desert place apart: and the multitudes, when they heard of his departure, followed him, on foot, from the cities.
౧౩యేసు పడవ ఎక్కి, అక్కడనుంచి నిర్జన ప్రదేశానికి ఏకాంతంగా వెళ్ళిపోయాడు. ప్రజలు ఆ సంగతి విని, పట్టణాల నుంచి కాలి నడకన ఆయన వెంట వెళ్ళారు.
14 And when Jesus came out, he saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion for them, and cured their sick.
౧౪యేసు పడవ దిగి ఆ పెద్ద గుంపును చూశాడు. ఆయన వారిమీద జాలిపడి వారి రోగాలను బాగు చేశాడు.
15 And when it was evening, his disciples came to him, and said: This is a desert place, and the hour is now past; send the multitudes away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves food.
౧౫సాయంకాలం అయినప్పుడు ఆయన శిష్యులు ఆయన దగ్గరికి వచ్చి, “ఇది నిర్జన ప్రదేశం. ఇప్పటికే పొద్దుపోయింది. ఈ ప్రజలు గ్రామాల్లోకి వెళ్ళి ఆహారం కొనుక్కోడానికి వారిని పంపి వెయ్యి” అన్నారు.
16 But Jesus said to them: They need not go away; do you give them food.
౧౬యేసు వారితో, “వారు వెళ్ళనక్కర లేదు, మీరే వారికి భోజనం పెట్టండి” అన్నాడు.
17 They said to him: We have here but five loaves and two fishes.
౧౭వారు, “ఇక్కడ మన దగ్గర ఐదు రొట్టెలూ రెండు చేపలూ తప్ప ఇంకేమీ లేవు” అని ఆయనతో అన్నారు.
18 He said: Bring them hither to me.
౧౮అందుకు ఆయన, “వాటిని నా దగ్గరికి తీసుకు రండి” అన్నాడు.
19 And he commanded the multitudes to recline upon the grass: and he took the five loaves and the two fishes, and looked up to heaven, and blessed, and broke, and gave the bread to the disciples, and the disciples gave it to the multitudes.
౧౯ప్రజలు పచ్చిక మీద కూర్చోవాలని ఆదేశించాడు. అప్పుడు ఆ ఐదు రొట్టెలు, రెండు చేపలు చేతిలో తీసుకుని ఆకాశం వైపు చూసి దీవించి ఆ రొట్టెలు విరిచి శిష్యులకు ఇచ్చాడు. శిష్యులు ప్రజలకు వడ్డించారు.
20 And they all ate and were satisfied. And they took up what remained of the broken pieces, twelve baskets full.
౨౦వారంతా తిని సంతృప్తి చెందిన తరువాత మిగిలిపోయిన ముక్కలు పోగుచేస్తే మొత్తం పన్నెండు గంపలు నిండాయి.
21 And they that had eaten were about five thousand men, besides women and children.
౨౧స్త్రీలూ పిల్లలూ గాక పురుషులే సుమారు ఐదు వేలమంది తిన్నారు.
22 And he immediately constrained his disciples to get into the ship, and go before him to the opposite side, while he sent the multitudes away.
౨౨యేసు వెంటనే శిష్యులను తనకంటే ముందుగా ఆవలి తీరానికి వెళ్ళమని పడవ ఎక్కించాడు.
23 And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into the mountain apart to pray. And when evening came, he was there alone.
౨౩ఆయన ఆ ప్రజలను పంపివేసిన తరువాత, ప్రార్థన చేయడానికి ఏకాంతంగా కొండ ఎక్కిపోయాడు. సాయంకాలం అయినప్పుడు ఆయన ఒంటరిగా ఉన్నాడు.
24 But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed by the waves, for the wind was against them.
౨౪అప్పటికి ఆ పడవ సముద్రం మధ్యలో ఉంది. ఎదురు గాలితో అలలు పడవను కొడుతూ ఉంటే ఆ తాకిడికి అది వారి అదుపు తప్పి కొట్టుకుపోతూ ఉంది.
25 And in the fourth watch of the night he came to them, walking on the sea.
౨౫రాత్రి నాలుగవ జామున ఆయన సముద్రం మీద నడుస్తూ వారి దగ్గరికి వచ్చాడు.
26 And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were alarmed, and said: It is a specter! and they cried out for fear.
౨౬ఆయన సముద్రం మీద నడవడం చూసి శిష్యులు భయపడిపోయి, దయ్యం అనుకుని గాబరాగా కేకలు వేశారు.
27 But Jesus immediately spoke to them, and said: Take courage; it is I; be not afraid.
౨౭వెంటనే యేసు, “ధైర్యం తెచ్చుకోండి. నేనే, భయపడవద్దు” అన్నాడు.
28 And Peter answered him, and said: Lord, if it be thou, bid me come to thee on the water.
౨౮పేతురు, “ప్రభూ, నీవే అయితే నీళ్ల మీద నడిచి నీ దగ్గరికి రావడానికి నాకు అనుమతినివ్వు” అని ఆయనతో అన్నాడు.
29 And he said: Come. And Peter went down from the ship, and walked upon the water to go to Jesus.
౨౯యేసు “రా” అన్నాడు. పేతురు పడవ దిగి యేసు దగ్గరికి వెళ్ళడానికి నీళ్ళ మీద నడిచాడు గాని
30 But when he saw the wind strong, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried out, saying: Lord, save me.
౩౦గాలిని చూసి భయపడి మునిగిపోతూ, “ప్రభూ, నన్ను రక్షించు” అని కేకలు వేశాడు.
31 And Jesus immediately stretched out his hand, and took hold of him, and said to him: O you of little faith, why did you doubt?
౩౧వెంటనే యేసు చెయ్యి చాపి అతని పట్టుకుని, “అల్పవిశ్వాసీ, ఎందుకు సందేహపడ్డావు?” అన్నాడు.
32 And when they had entered the ship, the wind ceased.
౩౨యేసు, పేతురు పడవలో ప్రవేశించగానే ఆ గాలి ఆగిపోయింది.
33 And they that were in the ship came and worshiped him, saying: Truly, thou art the Son of God.
౩౩అప్పుడు పడవలో ఉన్న శిష్యులు వచ్చి, “నువ్వు నిజంగా దేవుని కుమారుడివి” అని చెప్పి ఆయనను ఆరాధించారు.
34 And when they had passed over, they came into the land of Gennesaret.
౩౪వారు అవతలి ఒడ్డుకు వెళ్ళి గెన్నేసరెతు ప్రాంతానికి చేరుకున్నారు.
35 And when the men of that place had knowledge of him, they sent out into all the neighboring country, and brought to him all that were sick;
౩౫అక్కడి ప్రజలు ఆయనను గుర్తుపట్టి, చుట్టుపక్కల ఉన్న ఆ ప్రాంతమంతటికీ కబురు పంపి రోగులందరినీ ఆయన దగ్గరికి రప్పించారు.
36 and besought him that they might only touch the fringe of his mantle; and as many as touched were perfectly saved.
౩౬“వీరిని నీ వస్త్రపు చెంగు మాత్రమే ముట్టనివ్వు” అని ఆయనను బతిమాలారు. ముట్టిన వారంతా బాగయ్యారు.
