Matthew 14
1 At that time Herod the tetrarch heard of the fame of Jesus;
In jener Zeit hörte Herodes, der Vierfürst, das Gerücht von Jesus.
2 and he said to his servants: This is John The Immerser; he has risen from the dead; and for this reason the powers of the spiritual world are active within him.
Und er sprach zu seinen Knechten: Dieser ist Johannes der Täufer; er ist von den Toten auferstanden, und darum wirken die Kräfte in ihm.
3 For Herod had laid hold of John, and bound him, and put him in prison on account of Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip.
Denn Herodes hatte Johannes ergriffen, ihn gebunden, und in das Gefängnis gelegt, von wegen Herodias, dem Weibe seines Bruders Philippus.
4 For John said to him: It is not lawful for you to have her.
Denn Johannes sagte zu ihm: Es ist dir nicht erlaubt, sie zu haben.
5 And he intended to put him to death, but feared the multitude, because they regarded him as a prophet.
Und er wollte ihn töten, fürchtete aber das Volk, denn sie hielten ihn für einen Propheten.
6 But when Herod’s birthday was kept, the daughter of Herodias danced in the midst, and pleased Herod.
Da aber Herodes seinen Jahrestag beging, tanzte die Tochter der Herodias in ihrer Mitte, und gefiel dem Herodes.
7 Wherefore he promised, with an oath, to give her whatever she would ask.
Daher versprach er eidlich, ihr zu geben, um was sie auch bitte.
8 And being previously instigated by her mother, she said: Give me here in a dish the head of John the Immerser?
Sie aber, bearbeitet von ihrer Mutter, sagte: Gib mir, hier auf einer Schüssel, das Haupt des Johannes, des Täufers.
9 And the king was grieved: but on account of his oath, and those who reclined at table with him, he commanded it to be given.
Und der König ward traurig; doch um der Eide willen und derer, die mit zu Tische lagen, befahl er es zu geben.
10 And he sent and beheaded John in the prison.
Und sandte, und ließ Johannes im Gefängnis enthaupten;
11 And his head was brought in a dish, and given to the maiden: and she carried it to her mother.
Und sein Haupt ward auf einer Schüssel gebracht, und der Dirne gegeben, und sie brachte es ihrer Mutter.
12 And his disciples came and took away the body, and buried it; and went and told Jesus.
Und es kamen seine Jünger herbei, nahmen den Leichnam, und begruben ihn, und kamen und verkündigten es Jesus.
13 And when Jesus heard of it, he withdrew from that place, by ship, into a desert place apart: and the multitudes, when they heard of his departure, followed him, on foot, from the cities.
Da das Jesus hörte, entwich er von dannen in einem Boot an einen wüsten Ort, bei Seite. Und als es die Volkshaufen hörten, folgen sie ihm zu Fuß nach von den Städten.
14 And when Jesus came out, he saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion for them, and cured their sick.
Und als er hervorkam, sah er viel Volk, und erbarmte sich über sie, und heilte ihre Kranken.
15 And when it was evening, his disciples came to him, and said: This is a desert place, and the hour is now past; send the multitudes away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves food.
Am Abend aber kamen seine Jünger zu ihm, und sprachen: Wüste ist der Ort, und die Zeit ist vorüber, entlaß die Volkshaufen, daß sie hingehen in die Dörfer, und sich Speise kaufen.
16 But Jesus said to them: They need not go away; do you give them food.
Jesus aber sprach zu ihnen: Sie haben nicht nötig fortzugehen; gebt ihr ihnen zu essen.
17 They said to him: We have here but five loaves and two fishes.
Sie aber sagen ihm: Wir haben hier nichts, denn fünf Brote und zwei Fische.
18 He said: Bring them hither to me.
Und er sprach: Bringet mir sie herbei!
19 And he commanded the multitudes to recline upon the grass: and he took the five loaves and the two fishes, and looked up to heaven, and blessed, and broke, and gave the bread to the disciples, and the disciples gave it to the multitudes.
Und er befahl, daß sich die Volkshaufen hinlegen sollten auf das Gras, nahm die fünf Brote und die zwei Fische, und aufblickend gen Himmel, dankte er, brach es, und gab die Brote den Jüngern, die Jünger aber den Volkshaufen.
20 And they all ate and were satisfied. And they took up what remained of the broken pieces, twelve baskets full.
Und es aßen alle, und wurden satt, und sie hoben auf, was übrig blieb von Brocken, zwölf Körbe voll.
21 And they that had eaten were about five thousand men, besides women and children.
Und die gegessen hatten, waren bei fünftausend Mann, ohne Weiber und Kinder.
22 And he immediately constrained his disciples to get into the ship, and go before him to the opposite side, while he sent the multitudes away.
Und alsbald nötigte er die Jünger in das Boot zu steigen, und vor ihm hinüber zu fahren ans jenseitige Ufer, bis er die Volkshaufen entließe.
23 And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into the mountain apart to pray. And when evening came, he was there alone.
Und da er die Volkshaufen entlassen hatte, stieg er auf den Berg für sich, um zu beten. Als es aber Abend geworden war, war er allein daselbst.
24 But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed by the waves, for the wind was against them.
Das Boot aber war schon mitten auf dem See, und sie waren in Not wegen der Wellen, denn der Wind war ihnen zuwider.
25 And in the fourth watch of the night he came to them, walking on the sea.
Aber in der vierten Nachtwache kam er zu ihnen, und wandelte auf dem See.
26 And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were alarmed, and said: It is a specter! and they cried out for fear.
Und als ihn die Jünger auf dem See wandeln sahen, erschraken sie, und sprachen: Es ist eine Erscheinung. und schrieen vor Furcht.
27 But Jesus immediately spoke to them, and said: Take courage; it is I; be not afraid.
Alsbald redete aber Jesus mit ihnen, und sprach: Seid getrost! Ich bin es. Fürchtet euch nicht!
28 And Peter answered him, and said: Lord, if it be thou, bid me come to thee on the water.
Petrus aber antwortete ihm, und sprach: Herr, wenn du es bist, so befiehl, daß ich auf den Gewässern zu dir komme.
29 And he said: Come. And Peter went down from the ship, and walked upon the water to go to Jesus.
Er aber sprach: Komm! Und Petrus stieg hinab vom Boot, und wandelte auf dem Gewässer, um zu Jesus zu kommen.
30 But when he saw the wind strong, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried out, saying: Lord, save me.
Als er aber sah, daß der Wind stark war, fürchtete er sich, und fing an unterzusinken, schrie, und sprach: Herr, rette mich!
31 And Jesus immediately stretched out his hand, and took hold of him, and said to him: O you of little faith, why did you doubt?
Jesus aber streckte alsbald die Hand aus, erfaßte ihn, und sprach zu ihm: Kleingläubiger! warum zweifelst du?
32 And when they had entered the ship, the wind ceased.
Und als sie in das Boot stiegen, legte sich der Wind.
33 And they that were in the ship came and worshiped him, saying: Truly, thou art the Son of God.
Die aber im Boot waren, kamen, fielen vor ihm nieder und sprachen: Wahrhaftig! Du bist Gottes Sohn! (d. h. der Messias)
34 And when they had passed over, they came into the land of Gennesaret.
Und da sie hinübergeschifft waren, kamen sie in das Land Genezareth.
35 And when the men of that place had knowledge of him, they sent out into all the neighboring country, and brought to him all that were sick;
Und da die Männer jenes Ortes ihn erkannten, sandten sie in jene ganze Umgegend, und brachten zu ihm alle, die sich übel befanden.
36 and besought him that they might only touch the fringe of his mantle; and as many as touched were perfectly saved.
Und baten ihn, daß sie nur die Quaste seines Kleides anrührten, und wie viele ihn anrührten, denen wurde geholfen.
