Matthew 12
1 At that time Jesus was going, on the Sabbath, through the fields of grain; and his disciples were hungry, and began to pull the ears of grain, and to eat.
En aquel tiempo, Jesús pasó el día de reposo por los campos de cereales. Sus discípulos tenían hambre y se pusieron a arrancar espigas y a comer.
2 But when the Pharisees saw it, they said to him: Behold, your disciples are doing what it is not lawful to do on the Sabbath.
Pero los fariseos, al verlo, le dijeron: “He aquí que tus discípulos hacen lo que no es lícito hacer en sábado.”
3 But he said to them: Have you not read what David did, when he and those who were with him were hungry?
Pero él les dijo: “¿No habéis leído lo que hizo David cuando tuvo hambre, y los que estaban con él
4 how he entered the house of God, and ate the loaves of the presence, which it was not lawful for him to eat, nor for those who were with him, but for the priests only?
cómo entró en la casa de Dios y comió el pan consagrado, que no le era lícito comer a él ni a los que estaban con él, sino sólo a los sacerdotes?
5 Or, have you not read in the law that on the Sabbath-days the priests in the temple profane the Sabbath, and are blameless?
¿Acaso no habéis leído en la ley que en el día de reposo los sacerdotes en el templo profanan el sábado y son inocentes?
6 But I say to you, that something greater than the temple is here.
Pero yo os digo que aquí hay uno más grande que el templo.
7 But if you had known what this means―I desire mercy, and not sacrifice―you would not have condemned the blameless.
Pero si hubierais sabido lo que significa esto: “Quiero misericordia y no sacrificios,” no habríais condenado a los inocentes.
8 For the Son of man is Lord of the Sabbath.
Porque el Hijo del Hombre es el Señor del sábado”.
9 And he departed thence, and went into their synagogue.
Salió de allí y entró en la sinagoga de ellos.
10 And behold, a man was there that had a withered hand. And they asked him, saying: Is it lawful to cure on the Sabbath-days? that they might accuse him.
Y he aquí que había un hombre con una mano seca. Le preguntaron: “¿Es lícito curar en día de reposo?”, para acusarle.
11 And he said to them: What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if this fall into a pit on the Sabbath-day, will he not lay hold on it and lift it out?
Les dijo: “¿Qué hombre hay entre vosotros que tenga una sola oveja, y si ésta cae en un pozo en día de sábado, no se agarra a ella y la saca?
12 How much better, then, is a man than a sheep! So it is lawful to do well on the Sabbath-days.
¡Cuánto más vale un hombre que una oveja! Por eso es lícito hacer el bien en el día de reposo”.
13 Then he said to the man: Stretch forth your hand. And he stretched it forth; and it was restored to soundness, like the other.
Entonces le dijo al hombre: “Extiende tu mano”. Él la extendió; y se la devolvió restaurada, igual que la otra.
14 But the Pharisees went out and took counsel against him, that they might destroy him.
Pero los fariseos salieron y conspiraron contra él para destruirlo.
15 But Jesus perceived it, and withdrew from that place. And many multitudes followed him, and he cured them all.
Jesús, al darse cuenta, se retiró de allí. Le siguieron grandes multitudes; y los curó a todos,
16 And he charged them not to make him known;
y les ordenó que no le dieran a conocer,
17 that the word might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying:
para que se cumpliera lo que se había dicho por medio del profeta Isaías, que decía
18 Be hold, my servant whom I have chosen; my beloved, in whom my soul delights. I will put my Spirit upon him, and he shall declare law to the Gentiles.
“He aquí a mi siervo que he elegido, mi amado en quien mi alma se complace. Pondré mi Espíritu sobre él. Anunciará la justicia a las naciones.
19 He shall not contend, nor cry out; nor shall any one hear his voice in the streets.
No se esforzará, ni gritará, ni nadie escuchará su voz en las calles.
20 A bruised reed he shall not break, and a smoking wick he shall not extinguish, till he shall send forth his law for conquest.
No romperá una caña magullada. No apagará un lino humeante, hasta que lleve la justicia a la victoria.
21 And in his name shall the Gentiles trust.
En su nombre esperarán las naciones”.
22 Then was brought to him a demoniac, blind and dumb: and he cured him, so that the blind and dumb man both spoke and saw.
Entonces le trajeron a uno poseído por un demonio, ciego y mudo, y lo curó, de modo que el ciego y el mudo hablaba y veía.
23 And all the people were amazed, and said: Is not this the son of David?
Todas las multitudes estaban asombradas y decían: “¿Puede ser éste el hijo de David?”
24 But the Pharisees, when they heard it, said: This man does not cast out the demons, unless by Beelzebul, the prince of the demons.
Pero cuando los fariseos lo oyeron, dijeron: “Este hombre no expulsa los demonios sino por Beelzebul, el príncipe de los demonios.”
25 But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said to them: Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation. And no city or house divided against itself shall stand.
Conociendo sus pensamientos, Jesús les dijo: “Todo reino dividido contra sí mismo es desolado, y toda ciudad o casa dividida contra sí misma no permanecerá.
26 And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how then shall his kingdom stand?
Si Satanás expulsa a Satanás, está dividido contra sí mismo. ¿Cómo, pues, se mantendrá su reino?
27 And if I cast out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your sons cast them out? For this reason, they shall be your judges.
Si yo, por medio de Beelzebul, expulso los demonios, ¿por quién los expulsan vuestros hijos? Por tanto, ellos serán vuestros jueces.
28 But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has already come upon you.
Pero si yo por el Espíritu de Dios expulso los demonios, entonces el Reino de Dios ha llegado a vosotros.
29 Or, how can any one enter the house of the strong man and spoil his goods, unless he first bind the strong man? and then he will plunder his house.
¿Cómo puede uno entrar en la casa del hombre fuerte y saquear sus bienes, si antes no ata al hombre fuerte? Entonces saqueará su casa.
30 He that is not with me, is against me; and he that gathers not with me, scatters.
“El que no está conmigo está contra mí, y el que no reúne conmigo, dispersa.
31 Therefore I say to you, That every sin and impious speech shad be forgiven men: but the impious speech against the Spirit shall not be forgiven men.
Por eso os digo que todo pecado y toda blasfemia serán perdonados a los hombres, pero la blasfemia contra el Espíritu no será perdonada a los hombres.
32 And whoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whoever shall speak against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, either in the present age, or in that which is to come. (aiōn g165)
Al que hable una palabra contra el Hijo del Hombre, se le perdonará; pero al que hable contra el Espíritu Santo, no se le perdonará, ni en este tiempo ni en el venidero. (aiōn g165)
33 Either make the tree good, and its fruit good; or make the tree unsound, and its fruit unsound. For by the fruit the tree is known.
“O haced el árbol bueno y su fruto bueno, o haced el árbol corrompido y su fruto corrompido; porque por su fruto se conoce el árbol.
34 Generation of vipers, how can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.
Vástagos de víboras, ¿cómo podéis, siendo malos, hablar cosas buenas? Porque de la abundancia del corazón habla la boca.
35 The good man, out of his good treasury, brings forth good things; and the evil man, out of his evil treasury, brings forth evil things.
El hombre bueno de su buen tesoro saca cosas buenas, y el hombre malo de su mal tesoro saca cosas malas.
36 But I say to you, That for every idle word which men speak, they shall give account in the day of judgment.
Os digo que de toda palabra ociosa que los hombres hablen, darán cuenta en el día del juicio.
37 For by your words you shall be justified, and by your words you shall be condemned.
Porque por sus palabras serán justificados, y por sus palabras serán condenados.”
38 Then some of the scribes and Pharisees answered and said: Teacher, we wish to see a sign from you.
Entonces algunos de los escribas y fariseos respondieron: “Maestro, queremos ver una señal tuya”.
39 But he answered and said to them: A wicked and adulterous generation seeks for a sign; and no sign shall be given to it, but the sign of Jonah the prophet.
Pero él les respondió: “Una generación mala y adúltera busca una señal, pero no se le dará otra señal que la del profeta Jonás.
40 For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
Porque como Jonás estuvo tres días y tres noches en el vientre del gran pez, así el Hijo del Hombre estará tres días y tres noches en el corazón de la tierra.
41 Tho men of Nineveh shall rise in the judgment with this generation, and condemn it; for they repented in accordance with the preaching of Jonah; and behold, something greater than Jonah is here.
Los hombres de Nínive se levantarán en el juicio con esta generación y la condenarán, porque se arrepintieron ante la predicación de Jonás; y he aquí que hay alguien más grande que Jonás.
42 The queen of the south shall rise in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it; for she came from the most distant parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and behold, something greater than Solomon is here.
La Reina del Sur se levantará en el juicio con esta generación y la condenará, porque vino desde los confines de la tierra para escuchar la sabiduría de Salomón; y he aquí que hay alguien más grande que Salomón.
43 When the unclean spirit has gone out of a man, he goes through dry places seeking rest, and finds none.
“Cuando un espíritu inmundo ha salido del hombre, pasa por lugares sin agua buscando descanso, y no lo encuentra.
44 Then he says: I will return to my house, out of which I came. And he comes and finds it empty, swept, and set in order.
Entonces dice: ‘Volveré a mi casa de donde salí’; y cuando ha vuelto, la encuentra vacía, barrida y ordenada.
45 Then he goes and takes with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in and dwell there. And the last state of that man is worse than the first. So shall it be with this wicked generation.
Entonces va y toma consigo otros siete espíritus más malos que él, y entran y habitan allí. El último estado de ese hombre llega a ser peor que el primero. Así será también para esta generación malvada”.
46 While he was yet speaking to the multitudes, behold, his mother and his brothers stood without, desiring to speak to him.
Mientras aún hablaba a las multitudes, he aquí que su madre y sus hermanos estaban afuera, buscando hablar con él.
47 And some one said to him: Behold, your mother and your brothers stand without, desiring to speak to you.
Uno le dijo: “He aquí, tu madre y tus hermanos están afuera, buscando hablar contigo”.
48 But he answered and said to him that told him: Who is my mother? and who are my brothers?
Pero él respondió al que le hablaba: “¿Quién es mi madre? ¿Quiénes son mis hermanos?”
49 And he stretched out his hand toward his disciples, and said: Behold my mother and my brothers.
Extendió la mano hacia sus discípulos y dijo: “¡Mira, mi madre y mis hermanos!
50 For whoever will do the will of my Father who is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.
Porque todo aquel que hace la voluntad de mi Padre que está en los cielos, ése es mi hermano, mi hermana y mi madre”.
