1 And they came to the opposite side of the sea, into the country of the Gadarenes.
atha tU sindhupAraM gatvA giderIyapradeza upatasthuH|
2 And when he had come out of the ship, immediately there met him from the tombs a man with an unclean spirit,
naukAto nirgatamAtrAd apavitrabhUtagrasta ekaH zmazAnAdetya taM sAkSAc cakAra|
3 who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no one could keep him bound even with chains;
sa zmazAne'vAtsIt kopi taM zRGkhalena badvvA sthApayituM nAzaknot|
4 because he had often been bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been pulled to pieces by him, and the fetters had been broken, and no one had strength to subdue him;
janairvAraM nigaDaiH zRGkhalaizca sa baddhopi zRGkhalAnyAkRSya mocitavAn nigaDAni ca bhaMktvA khaNDaM khaNDaM kRtavAn kopi taM vazIkarttuM na zazaka|
5 and always, night and day, he was in the tombs, and in the mountains, crying out, and cutting himself with stones.
divAnizaM sadA parvvataM zmazAnaJca bhramitvA cItzabdaM kRtavAn grAvabhizca svayaM svaM kRtavAn|
6 And when he saw Jesus at a distance, he ran and did him homage;
sa yIzuM dUrAt pazyanneva dhAvan taM praNanAma ucairuvaMzcovAca,
7 and crying out with a loud voice, he said: What have I to do with thee, Jesus, Son of God Most High? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not.
he sarvvoparisthezvaraputra yIzo bhavatA saha me kaH sambandhaH? ahaM tvAmIzvareNa zApaye mAM mA yAtaya|
8 For he had said to him: Unclean spirit, come out of the man.
yato yIzustaM kathitavAn re apavitrabhUta, asmAnnarAd bahirnirgaccha|
9 And he asked him: What is your name? And he said to him: My name is Legion; for we are many.
atha sa taM pRSTavAn kinte nAma? tena pratyuktaM vayamaneke 'smastato'smannAma bAhinI|
10 And he earnestly besought him that he would not send them out of the country.
tatosmAn dezAnna preSayeti te taM prArthayanta|
11 Now a great herd of swine was feeding there near the mountain.
tadAnIM parvvataM nikaSA bRhan varAhavrajazcarannAsIt|
12 And the demons besought him, saying: Send us to the swine, that we may enter into them.
tasmAd bhUtA vinayena jagaduH, amuM varAhavrajam Azrayitum asmAn prahiNu|
13 And Jesus immediately gave them leave. And the unclean spirits came out and entered into the swine; and the herd (they were about two thousand, ) rushed down a steep place into the sea, and were strangled in the sea.
yIzunAnujJAtAste'pavitrabhUtA bahirniryAya varAhavrajaM prAvizan tataH sarvve varAhA vastutastu prAyodvisahasrasaMGkhyakAH kaTakena mahAjavAd dhAvantaH sindhau prANAn jahuH|
14 And those who fed them fled, and told it in the city, and in the country. And they came out to see what had been done;
tasmAd varAhapAlakAH palAyamAnAH pure grAme ca tadvArttaM kathayAJcakruH| tadA lokA ghaTitaM tatkAryyaM draSTuM bahirjagmuH
15 and they came to Jesus and saw the demoniac, who had had the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.
yIzoH sannidhiM gatvA taM bhUtagrastam arthAd bAhinIbhUtagrastaM naraM savastraM sacetanaM samupaviSTaJca dRSTvA bibhyuH|
16 And those who had seen it told them how it had happened to the demoniac, and also concerning the swine.
tato dRSTatatkAryyalokAstasya bhUtagrastanarasya varAhavrajasyApi tAM dhaTanAM varNayAmAsuH|
17 And they began to beseech him to depart from their borders.
tataste svasImAto bahirgantuM yIzuM vinetumArebhire|
18 And when he had entered the ship, he that had been possessed with the demons besought him that he might be with him.
atha tasya naukArohaNakAle sa bhUtamukto nA yIzunA saha sthAtuM prArthayate;
19 And he did not permit him, but said to him: Go home to your relatives, and make known to them what things the Lord has done for you, and that he has had compassion on you.
kintu sa tamananumatya kathitavAn tvaM nijAtmIyAnAM samIpaM gRhaJca gaccha prabhustvayi kRpAM kRtvA yAni karmmANi kRtavAn tAni tAn jJApaya|
20 And he went away and began to proclaim in Decapolis what things Jesus had done for him. And all were astonished.
ataH sa prasthAya yIzunA kRtaM tatsarvvAzcaryyaM karmma dikApalideze pracArayituM prArabdhavAn tataH sarvve lokA AzcaryyaM menire|
21 And when Jesus had again gone over in the ship to the opposite side, a great multitude came together to him; and he was near the sea.
anantaraM yIzau nAvA punaranyapAra uttIrNe sindhutaTe ca tiSThati sati tatsamIpe bahulokAnAM samAgamo'bhUt|
22 And behold, there came one of the rulers of the synagogue, named Jairus; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet,
aparaM yAyIr nAmnA kazcid bhajanagRhasyAdhipa Agatya taM dRSTvaiva caraNayoH patitvA bahu nivedya kathitavAn;
23 and besought him earnestly, saying: My little daughter is at the point of death; come, lay thy hands on her, that she may be saved, and she will live.
mama kanyA mRtaprAyAbhUd ato bhavAnetya tadArogyAya tasyA gAtre hastam arpayatu tenaiva sA jIviSyati|
24 And he went with him; and a great multitude followed him, and pressed upon him.
tadA yIzustena saha calitaH kintu tatpazcAd bahulokAzcalitvA tAdgAtre patitAH|
25 And a certain woman who had had an issue of blood for twelve years,
atha dvAdazavarSANi pradararogeNa
26 and had suffered much from many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was in no way benefited, but rather grew worse,
zIrNA cikitsakAnAM nAnAcikitsAbhizca duHkhaM bhuktavatI ca sarvvasvaM vyayitvApi nArogyaM prAptA ca punarapi pIDitAsIcca
27 when she heard of Jesus, came behind him in the multitude, and touched his mantle;
yA strI sA yIzo rvArttAM prApya manasAkathayat yadyahaM tasya vastramAtra spraSTuM labheyaM tadA rogahInA bhaviSyAmi|
28 for she said: If I may even touch his clothes, I shall be saved.
atohetoH sA lokAraNyamadhye tatpazcAdAgatya tasya vastraM pasparza|
29 And immediately the fountain of her blood dried up, and she knew in her body that she was cured of that plague.
tenaiva tatkSaNaM tasyA raktasrotaH zuSkaM svayaM tasmAd rogAnmuktA ityapi dehe'nubhUtA|
30 And Jesus, immediately perceiving in himself that power had gone forth from him, turned around in the multitude and said: Who touched my clothes?
atha svasmAt zakti rnirgatA yIzuretanmanasA jJAtvA lokanivahaM prati mukhaM vyAvRtya pRSTavAn kena madvastraM spRSTaM?
31 And his disciples said to him: Thou seest the multitude pressing upon thee, and dost thou say, Who touched me?
tatastasya ziSyA UcuH bhavato vapuSi lokAH saMgharSanti tad dRSTvA kena madvastraM spRSTamiti kutaH kathayati?
32 And he looked around to see her that had done this.
kintu kena tat karmma kRtaM tad draSTuM yIzuzcaturdizo dRSTavAn|
33 But the woman, fearing and trembling, knowing; what had been done within her, came and fell down before him; and told him all the truth.
tataH sA strI bhItA kampitA ca satI svasyA rukpratikriyA jAteti jJAtvAgatya tatsammukhe patitvA sarvvavRttAntaM satyaM tasmai kathayAmAsa|
34 And he said to her: Daughter, your faith has saved you; go in peace, and be cured of your plague.
tadAnIM yIzustAM gaditavAn, he kanye tava pratItistvAm arogAmakarot tvaM kSemeNa vraja svarogAnmuktA ca tiSTha|
35 While he was yet speaking, some came from the ruler of the synagogue, who said: Your daughter is dead; why give the Teacher further trouble?
itivAkyavadanakAle bhajanagRhAdhipasya nivezanAl lokA etyAdhipaM babhASire tava kanyA mRtA tasmAd guruM punaH kutaH kliznAsi?
36 But as soon as Jesus heard what was spoken, he said to the ruler of the synagogue: Fear not, only believe.
kintu yIzustad vAkyaM zrutvaiva bhajanagRhAdhipaM gaditavAn mA bhaiSIH kevalaM vizvAsihi|
37 And he suffered no one to follow him, except Peter and James and John the brother of James.
atha pitaro yAkUb tadbhrAtA yohan ca etAn vinA kamapi svapazcAd yAtuM nAnvamanyata|
38 And he came to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and saw the tumult, and those who were weeping and wailing greatly.
tasya bhajanagRhAdhipasya nivezanasamIpam Agatya kalahaM bahurodanaM vilApaJca kurvvato lokAn dadarza|
39 And he went in and said to them: Why do you make a tumult and weep? The child is not dead, but sleeps.
tasmAn nivezanaM pravizya proktavAn yUyaM kuta itthaM kalahaM rodanaJca kurutha? kanyA na mRtA nidrAti|
40 And they derided him. But when he had put them all out, he took the father and mother of the child, and those who were with him, and went in where the child was lying.
tasmAtte tamupajahasuH kintu yIzuH sarvvAna bahiSkRtya kanyAyAH pitarau svasaGginazca gRhItvA yatra kanyAsIt tat sthAnaM praviSTavAn|
41 And he took the child by the hand, and said to her: Talitha kumi; which is, when translated, Maiden, (I say to you, ) arise.
atha sa tasyAH kanyAyA hastau dhRtvA tAM babhASe TAlIthA kUmI, arthato he kanye tvamuttiSTha ityAjJApayAmi|
42 And the maiden immediately arose and walked, for she was twelve years old. And they were greatly astonished.
tunaiva tatkSaNaM sA dvAdazavarSavayaskA kanyA potthAya calitumArebhe, itaH sarvve mahAvismayaM gatAH|
43 And he charged them strictly that no one should know this. And he commanded that something should be given her to eat.
tata etasyai kiJcit khAdyaM datteti kathayitvA etatkarmma kamapi na jJApayateti dRDhamAdiSTavAn|
