Luke 3
1 In the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Cæsar, when Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea, and Herod was tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip was tetrarch of Iturea and of the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias was tetrarch of Abilene,

2 Annas and Caiaphas being chief priests, the word of God came to John the son of Zachariah, in the wilderness.

3 And he came into all the country about the Jordan, preaching the immersion of repentance in order to the remission of sins;
El a venit în toată regiunea din jurul Iordanului, predicând botezul pocăinței pentru iertarea păcatelor.
4 as it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, saying: The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make ready the way of the Lord, make his paths straight;
După cum este scris în cartea cuvintelor profetului Isaia, “Glasul cuiva care strigă în pustiu, 'Pregătiți calea Domnului. Fă-i cărările drepte.
5 every ravine shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be made level; and the crooked ways shall be made straight; and the rough ways shall be made smooth;
Orice vale va fi umplută. Fiecare munte și deal va fi doborât. Cele strâmbe vor deveni drepte, și căile aspre să fie netede.
6 and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.
Toată făptura va vedea mântuirea lui Dumnezeu.”
7 Therefore he said to the multitudes that came out to be immersed by him: Generation of vipers, who has warned you to flee from the coming wrath?
De aceea a zis mulțimilor care ieșeau să fie botezate de El: “Neam de vipere, cine v-a pus în gardă să fugiți de mânia viitoare?
8 Bring forth, therefore, fruits worthy of repentance. And begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham for our father; for I say to you, that God is able from these stones to raise up children for Abraham.
De aceea, dați roade demne de pocăință și nu începeți să spuneți între voi: “Avem ca tată pe Avraam!” Căci vă spun că Dumnezeu poate să-i ridice lui Avraam copii din aceste pietre!”.
9 And now also the ax is lying at the root of the trees; therefore, every tree that does not produce good fruit, is cut down and cast into the fire.
Chiar și acum toporul se află la rădăcina copacilor. Așadar, orice copac care nu produce fructe bune este tăiat și aruncat în foc.”
10 And the multitudes asked him, saying: What, then, shall we do?
Și mulțimile L-au întrebat: “Ce trebuie să facem?”
11 He answered and said to them: He that has two coats, let him give to him that has none; and he that has food, let him do likewise.
El le-a răspuns: “Cine are două haine, să le dea celui care nu are. Cine are de mâncare, să facă la fel.”
12 And the publicans also came to be immersed, and they said to him: Teacher, what shall we do?
Au venit și vameșii să fie botezați și I-au zis: “Învățătorule, ce trebuie să facem?”
13 And he said to them: Exact no more than that which is appointed you.
El le-a zis: “Nu culegeți mai mult decât ceea ce vi se cuvine”.
14 And soldiers also asked him, saying: And what shall we do? And he said to them: Take nothing from any one by extortion, nor by false accusation, and be content with your pay.
Și soldații l-au întrebat și ei: “Și noi? Ce trebuie să facem noi?” El le-a spus: “Nu luați de la nimeni prin violență și nu acuzați pe nimeni pe nedrept. Fiți mulțumiți cu salariile voastre”.
15 While the people were in suspense, and all were reasoning in their hearts about John, whether he was the Christ or not,
Pe când norodul era în așteptare și toți oamenii se gândeau în inimile lor dacă nu cumva Ioan este Hristosul,
16 John answered them all, saying: I indeed immerse you in water; but there comes One mightier than I, the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to loose; he will immerse you in the Holy Spirit and in fire.
Ioan le-a răspuns tuturor: “Eu vă botez cu apă, dar vine Cel mai puternic decât mine, căruia nu sunt vrednic să-i dezleg cureaua sandalelor. El vă va boteza în Duhul Sfânt și în foc.
17 His winnowing shovel is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his thrashing-floor, and gather the grain into his granary, but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire.
În mâna Lui este vânturatorul, va curăța bine aria și va strânge grâul în hambarul Său, dar va arde neghina cu foc nestins.”
18 With many other exhortations he proclaimed the good news to the people.
Apoi, cu multe alte îndemnuri, propovăduia poporului vestea cea bună.
19 But Herod the tetrarch having been reproved by him on account of Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip, and for all the wicked deeds which Herod did,
Dar Irod tetrarhul, fiind mustrat de el pentru Irodiada, soția fratelui său, și pentru toate relele pe care le făcuse Irod,
20 added this also to them all, that he shut up John in prison.
a adăugat la toate acestea și aceasta: a închis pe Ioan în temniță.
21 And it came to pass, while all the people were being immersed, that Jesus also was immersed; and as he was praying, the heaven was opened,
Și când tot poporul era botezat, Isus, botezat și el, se ruga. Cerul s-a deschis
22 and the Holy Spirit descended upon him, in a bodily form, like a dove; and there came a voice from heaven, which said: Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I delight.
și Duhul Sfânt s-a pogorât peste el în chip trupesc, ca un porumbel, iar din cer s-a auzit un glas care zicea: “Tu ești Fiul Meu preaiubit. În tine sunt binevoitor”.
23 And Jesus was about thirty years old when he began his ministry, being, as was supposed, the son of Joseph, son of Heli,
