John 1
1 In the beginning was the WORD, and the WORD was with God, and the WORD was God.
En el principio, la Palabra ya existía. La Palabra estaba con Dios, y la Palabra era Dios.
2 He was in the beginning with God.
En el principio, Jesús —quien era la palabra— estaba con Dios.
3 All things were made by him, and without him not one thing was made that now exists.
Todo llegó a existir por medio de él; y sin él nada llegó a existir.
4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men.
En él estaba la vida, la vida que era la luz de todos.
5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness comprehends it not.
La luz brilla en la oscuridad, y la oscuridad no la ha apagado.
6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
Dios envió a un hombre llamado Juan.
7 This man came as a witness, to testify of the Light, that all through him might believe.
Él vino como testigo para hablar acerca de la luz, a fin de que todos pudieran creer por medio de él.
8 He was not the Light; but he came to testify of the Light.
Él mismo no era la luz, sino que vino a testificar de la luz.
9 He was the true Light, which, coming into the world, gives light to every man.
La luz verdadera estaba por venir al mundo para dar luz a todos.
10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
Él estuvo en el mundo, y aunque el mundo fue hecho por medio de él, el mundo no supo quién era él.
11 He came to his own country, and his own people received him not.
Él vino a su pueblo, pero ellos no lo aceptaron.
12 But as many as received him, to them he gave the privilege of becoming the children of God, even to those who believe on his name;
Pero a aquellos que lo aceptaron, a quienes creyeron en él, les dio el derecho de convertirse en hijos de Dios.
13 who were begotten, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
Estos son los hijos que no nacieron de forma habitual, o como resultado de los deseos o de la voluntad humana, sino nacidos de Dios.
14 And the WORD became flesh, and tabernacled among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, ) full of grace and of truth.
La Palabra se volvió humana y vivió entre nosotros, y nosotros vimos su gloria, la gloria del único hijo del Padre, lleno de gracia y verdad.
15 John testified of him, and cried, saying: This is he of whom I said: He that comes after me, is now before me, for he existed before me.
Juan dio su testimonio acerca de él, exclamando al pueblo: “Este es del cual yo les hablaba cuando les dije: ‘El que viene después de mi es más importante que yo, porque antes de que yo viviera, ya él existía’”.
16 And from his fullness have we all received, even grace for grace;
Nosotros todos hemos sido receptores de su generosidad, de un don gratuito tras otro.
17 for the law was given through Moses, but the grace and the truth came through Jesus Christ.
La ley fue dada por medio de Moisés; pero la gracia y la verdad vinieron por medio de Jesucristo.
18 No one has seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he has revealed him.
Aunque ninguno ha visto a Dios, Jesucristo, el Único e Incomparable, quien está cerca del Padre, nos ha mostrado cómo es Dios.
19 And this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him: Who are you?
Esto es lo que Juan afirmó públicamente cuando los líderes judíos enviaron sacerdotes y Levitas desde Jerusalén para preguntarle: “¿Quién eres tú?”
20 And he confessed, and did not deny; and he confessed: I am not the Christ.
Juan declaró claramente y sin dudar: “Yo no soy el Mesías”.
21 And they asked him: What then? Are you Elijah? And he said: I am not. Are you the prophet? And he answered: No.
“Entonces, ¿quién eres?” preguntaron ellos. “¿Elías?” “No, no lo soy”, respondió él. “¿Eres tú el Profeta?” “No”, respondió él.
22 They then said to him: Who are you? that we may give an answer to those who sent us; what say you of yourself?
“¿Quién eres tú, entonces?” preguntaron ellos. “Tenemos que dar una respuesta a quienes nos enviaron. ¿Qué dices de ti mismo?”
23 He said: I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord; as said the prophet Isaiah.
“Yo soy ‘una voz que clama en el desierto: “¡Enderecen el camino del Señor!”’” dijo él, usando las palabras del profeta Isaías.
24 And those who were sent were of the Pharisees;
Los sacerdotes y los Levitas enviados por los fariseos
25 and they asked him, and said to him: Why, then, do you immerse, if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the prophet?
le preguntaron: “¿Por qué, entonces, estás bautizando, si no eres el Mesías, ni Elías, ni el Profeta?”
26 John answered them, saying: I immerse in water; but there stands one among you whom you know not.
Juan respondió: “Yo bautizo con agua, pero entre ustedes está alguien a quien ustedes no conocen.
27 He it is, who, though he comes after me, is now before me; the strap of whose sandal I am not worthy to loose.
Él viene después de mí, pero yo ni siquiera soy digno de desabrochar sus sandalias”.
28 These things were done in Bethany, beyond the Jordan, where John was immersing.
Todo esto ocurrió en Betania, al otro lado del Jordán, donde Juan estaba bautizando.
29 The next day John saw Jesus coming to him, and said: Behold the Lamb of God, that takes away the sin of the world.
Al día siguiente, Juan vio que Jesús se acercaba a él, y dijo: “¡Miren, el Cordero de Dios que quita el pecado del mundo!
30 This is he of whom I said, After me comes a man who is now before me, for he existed before me.
Este es del cual yo les hablaba cuando dije: ‘El hombre que viene después de mí es más importante que yo, porque antes de que yo existiera él ya existía’.
31 And I knew him not; but that he might be made manifest to Israel, for this reason I have come immersing in water.
Yo mismo no sabía quién era él, pero vine a bautizar con agua a fin de que él pudiera ser revelado a Israel”.
32 And John testified, saying: I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it remained on him.
Juan dio su testimonio acerca de él, diciendo: “Vi al Espíritu descender del cielo como una paloma y se posó sobre él.
33 And I knew him not; but he that sent me to immerse in water, said to me, On whom you shall see the Spirit descending and remaining, this is he that immerses in the Holy Spirit.
Yo no lo habría conocido si no fuera porque el que me envió a bautizar con agua me había dicho: ‘Aquél sobre el cual veas descender el Espíritu y posarse sobre él, ese es quien bautiza con el Espíritu Santo’.
34 And I saw, and do testify that this is the Son of God.
Yo lo vi, y declaro que este es el Hijo de Dios”.
35 Again the next day, John was standing with two of his disciples.
El día siguiente Juan estaba allí con dos de sus discípulos.
36 And looking on Jesus as he walked, he said: Behold the Lamb of God.
Él vio a Jesús que pasaba y dijo: “¡Miren! ¡Este es el Cordero de Dios!”
37 And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.
Cuando los dos discípulos escucharon lo que él dijo, fueron y siguieron a Jesús.
38 And Jesus turned, and saw them following, and said to them:
Jesús volteó y vio que estos le seguían. “¿Qué están buscando?” les preguntó, “Rabí (que significa ‘Maestro’), ¿dónde vives?” le preguntaron ellos, como respuesta.
39 What do you seek? They said to him: Rabbi, (which, when translated, is called Teacher, ) where abidest thou?
“Vengan y vean”, les dijo. Así que ellos se fueron con él y vieron donde vivía. Eran cerca de las cuatro de la tarde, y pasaron el resto del día con él.
40 He said to them: Come and see. They went and saw where he abode; and they remained with him that day; for it was about the tenth hour.
Andrés, el hermano de Simón Pedro, era uno de estos discípulos que habían escuchado lo que Juan dijo y que habían seguido a Jesús.
41 One of the two that heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter.
Él se fue de inmediato a buscar a su hermano Simón y le dijo: “¡Hemos encontrado al Mesías!” (Que significa “Cristo”).
42 He first found his own brother Simon, and said to him: We have found the Messiah; (which, when translated, is the Christ; )
Él lo llevó donde estaba Jesús. Mirándolo fijamente, Jesús le dijo: “Tú eres Simón, hijo de Juan. Pero ahora te llamarás Cefas”, (que significa “Pedro”).
43 and he brought him to Jesus. Jesus looking on him, said: You are Simon, the son of Jonah; you shall be called Cephas (which, when translated, is Rock).
El siguiente día, Jesús decidió ir a Galilea. Allí encontró a Felipe, y le dijo: “Sígueme”.
44 The day following, Jesus wished to go into Galilee; and he found Philip, and said to him: Follow me.
Felipe era de Betsaida, la misma ciudad de donde venían Andrés y Pedro.
45 Now, Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.
Felipe encontró a Natanael y le dijo: “Hemos encontrado a aquél de quien Moisés hablaba en la ley y de quien hablaban los profetas también: Jesús de Nazaret, el hijo de José”.
46 Philip found Nathaniel, and said to him: We have found him of whom Moses in the law and the prophets did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.
“¿De Nazaret? ¿Puede salir algo bueno de allí?” preguntó Natanael. “Solo ven y mira”, respondió Felipe.
47 And Nathaniel said to him: Can any thing good come out of Nazareth? Philip said to him: Come and see.
Cuando Jesús vio que Natanael se acercaba, dijo de él: “¡Miren, aquí hay un verdadero israelita! No hay ninguna falsedad en él”.
48 Jesus saw Nathaniel coming to him, and said of him: Be hold, an Israelite in truth, in whom there is no guile.
“¿Cómo sabes quien soy yo?” preguntó Natanael. “Te vi bajo aquella higuera, antes que Felipe te llamara”, respondió Jesús.
49 Nathaniel said to him: How knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said to him: Before Philip called you, while you were under the fig-tree, I saw you.
“¡Rabí, tu eres el Hijo de Dios, el rey de Israel!” exclamó Natanael.
50 Nathaniel answered and said to him: Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel.
“¿Crees esto solo porque te dije que te vi bajo aquella higuera?” respondió Jesús. “¡Verás mucho más que eso!”
51 Jesus answered and said to him: Do you believe, because I said to you, I saw you under the fig-tree? You shall see greater things than these. And he said to him: Verily, verily I say to you, From this time you shall see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.
Luego Jesús dijo: “Les digo la verdad: verán el cielo abierto, y los ángeles de Dios subiendo y bajando sobre el Hijo del hombre”.
