< John 9 >
1 And as he passed by, he saw a man that had been blind from his birth.

2 And his disciples asked him, saying: Rabbi, who sinned, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?

3 Jesus answered: Neither this man sinned, nor his parents; but that the works of God might be made manifest in him.

6 Having said this, he spit on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and spread the clay on the eyes of the blind man,

7 and said to him: Go, wash in the pool of Siloam; which, translated, means Sent. He went, therefore, and washed and came seeing.

8 Then his neighbors, and those who had before seen him, that he was blind, said: Is not this he that sat and begged?

9 Some said: It is he. Others: He is like him. But he said: I am he.

15 Then again the Pharisees also inquired of him how he had received his sight. He said to them: He put clay on my eyes, and I washed, and I see.

16 Then some of the Pharisees said: This man is not from God, for he keeps not the sabbath. Others said: How can a man that is a sinner do such signs? And there was a division among them?

17 Again they said to the blind man: What say you of him, seeing that he opened your eyes? He said: He is a prophet.

18 The Jews did not, therefore, believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and had received his sight, till they called the parents of him that had received his sight,

22 His parents said this, because they feared the Jews. For the Jews had already agreed, that if any one should confess him to be the Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue.

30 The man answered and said to them: Why, there is something wonderful in this, that you know not whence he is, and yet he has opened my eyes.

33 If this man were not of God, he could do nothing.

34 They answered and said to him: You were wholly born in sins, and do you teach us? And they cast him out.

39 And Jesus said: For judgment have I come into this world, that those who see not, may see; and that those who see, may become blind.

40 And some of the Pharisees who were with him, heard these things, and said to him: Are we also blind?

41 Jesus said to them: If you were blind, you would not have sin; but now you say, We see; therefore your sin remains.
