< James 4 >

1 Whence come wars and strifes among you? Come they not hence, even of your passions, which war in your members?
Atĩrĩrĩ, nĩ kĩĩ gĩtũmaga kũgĩe na mbaara na ngũĩ thĩinĩ wanyu? Githĩ itiumaga merirĩria-inĩ manyu marĩa marũaga thĩinĩ wanyu?
2 You desire, and you have not; you kill, and are earnestly desirous of having, and yet you can not obtain; you fight and war, and yet you have not, because you ask not.
Mwĩriragĩria kĩndũ no mũkaaga kũgĩa nakĩo. Ningĩ mũũraganaga na mũgacumĩkĩra, no mũtingĩhota kũgĩa na kĩrĩa mũkwenda. Mũtetanagia na mũkarũa. Mũgakĩaga kuona kĩndũ tondũ wa kwaga kũhooya Ngai.
3 You ask, and receive not, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your passions.
4 Adulterers and adulteresses, know you not that the friendship of the world is enmity to God? Whoever, therefore, will be a friend of the world, is an enemy of God.
Inyuĩ atharania aya, kaĩ mũtooĩ atĩ kũgĩa ũrata na thĩ nĩ kũgĩa ũthũ na Ngai? Nĩ ũndũ ũcio mũndũ o wothe ũthuuraga kũgĩa ũrata na thĩ nĩkũgĩa ũthũ ya Ngai.
5 Do you suppose that the scripture speaks to no purpose? Does the Spirit that dwells in us incline to envy? No.
Kana mũgwĩciiria Maandĩko maaragia ũhoro ũtarĩ na gĩtũmi, atĩ roho ũrĩa Ngai aatũmire ũtũũrage thĩinĩ witũ nĩ ũiguaga ũiru mũno?
6 But he gives more grace. Wherefore he says: God sets himself against the proud, but gives grace to the lowly.
No nĩatũheaga wega wake makĩria. Kĩu nĩkĩo gĩtũmaga Maandĩko moige atĩrĩ: “Ngai nĩareganaga na arĩa etĩĩi no arĩa menyiihagia nĩo aheaga wega wake.”
7 Submit yourselves, therefore, to God; resist the devil, and he will flee from you;
Nĩ ũndũ ũcio mwĩnyiihagĩriei Ngai. Reganagai na mũcukani, nake nĩekũmũũrĩra.
8 draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded men.
Kuhĩrĩriai Ngai, nake nĩekũmũkuhĩrĩria. Mwĩthambei moko manyu inyuĩ ehia, na mũtherie ngoro cianyu inyuĩ andũ a ngoro igĩrĩ.
9 Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to sorrow.
Iguai kĩeha, mũcakae, na mũgirĩke. Garũrai mĩtheko yanyu ĩtuĩke macakaya, nakĩo gĩkeno kĩanyu kĩgarũrũke gĩtuĩke kĩeha.
10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he will exalt you.
Mwĩnyiihĩriei Mwathani, nake nĩekũmũtũũgĩria.
11 Do not speak evil one of another, brethren. He that speaks evil of his brother, and judges his brother, speaks evil of the law, and judges the law: but if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law, but a judge.
Hĩndĩ ĩrĩa ũgũtuĩra watho ciira-rĩ, ndũkoragwo ũkĩhingia watho, no ũkoragwo ũrĩ mũtuanĩri ciira.
12 There is one law-giver that is able to save, and to destroy: who are you that judge another?
Kũrĩ Mũheani wa watho, na Mũtuanĩri ciira o ũmwe, o we ũrĩa ũrĩ na ũhoti wa kũhonokia na kũniinana. No wee-rĩ, ũkĩrĩ ũ nĩguo ũtuĩre mũndũ ũrĩa ũngĩ ciira?
13 Come, now, you that say, Let us go to-day, or to-morrow, into this city, and remain there a year, and trade, and make gain;
Rĩu ta thikĩrĩriai, inyuĩ mugaga atĩrĩ: “Ũmũthĩ kana rũciũ nĩtũgũthiĩ itũũra rĩna tũikare kuo mwaka ũmwe, tũrute wĩra wa wonjoria kuo, tũgĩe na mbeeca.”
14 and yet you know not what will take place to-morrow. For what is your life? Is it not, indeed, a vapor, that appears for a little while, and then vanishes away?
No rĩrĩ, inyuĩ mũtiũĩ ũrĩa gũgaatuĩka rũciũ. Muoyo wanyu ũkĩrĩ kĩ? Inyuĩ mũrĩ o kĩbii kĩrĩa kĩonekaga o kahinda kanini, gĩgacooka gĩgathira biũ.
15 Instead of that, you ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.
Handũ ha ũguo-rĩ, mwagĩrĩirwo nĩ kugaga atĩrĩ, “Mwathani angĩenda-rĩ, nĩ tũgũtũũra muoyo na twĩkage ũndũ ũyũ na ũyũ.”
16 But now you glory in your boastings: all such glorying is evil.
No rĩu inyuĩ nĩ kwĩraha mwĩrahaga mũrĩ na nguthi. Mwĩraho ta ũcio wothe nĩ mũũru.
17 Therefore, to him that knows how to do good, and does it not, to him it is sin.
Nĩ ũndũ wa ũguo, mũndũ wothe ũũĩ gwĩka wega na ndekaga-rĩ, ũcio nĩ kwĩhia ehagia.
