< 1 Timothy 1 >
1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the appointment of God our Savior, and the Lord Jesus Christ our hope,
Paul, an emissary of Messiah Yeshua according to the commandment of God our Savior, and Messiah Yeshua our hope;
2 to Timothy, my true son in the faith; grace, mercy, peace from God our Father, and Christ Jesus our Lord.
to Timothy, my true child in faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and Messiah Yeshua our Lord.
3 As, on going into Macedonia, I besought you to remain in Ephesus, that you might charge some that they teach no other thing,
As I urged you when I was going into Macedonia, stay at Ephesus that you might command certain people not to teach a different doctrine,
4 nor give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which produce disputes rather than godly edification, which is in faith;
neither to pay attention to myths and endless genealogies, which cause speculation, rather than God's stewardship, which is in faith—
5 (Now the end of the commandment is love out of a pure heart, and out of a good conscience, and out of faith unfeigned:
but the goal of this command is love, out of a pure heart and a good conscience and sincere faith;
6 which things some not having aimed at, have turned aside to idle disputation,
from which things some, having missed the mark, have turned aside to vain talking;
7 desiring to be teachers of law, though understanding neither what they say nor of what they boldly affirm.
desiring to be teachers of the law, though they understand neither what they say, nor about what they strongly affirm.
8 But we know that the law is good, if any one use it lawfully;
But we know that the law is good, if one uses it lawfully,
9 knowing this, that law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for the unholy and for scorners, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for man-slayers,
as knowing this, that law is not made for a righteous person, but for the lawless and insubordinate, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who kill their father or mother, for murderers,
10 for lewd persons, for sodomites, for men-stealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and for whatever other thing is opposed to sound teaching,
for the sexually immoral, for men who have sexual relations with men, for kidnappers, for liars, for perjurers, and for whatever else is contrary to sound teaching;
11 according to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which has been intrusted to me.
according to the Good News of the glory of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust.
12 And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me power, because he counted me faithful, and put me into the ministry;
And I thank him who enabled me, Messiah Yeshua our Lord, because he counted me faithful, appointing me to service;
13 me, I say, who before was a reviler and a persecutor and an overbearing man. But I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief:
although I was before a blasphemer, a persecutor, and insolent. However, I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.
14 and the grace of our Lord was very abundant with faith, and love which is in Christ Jesus.
The grace of our Lord abounded exceedingly with faith and love which is in Messiah Yeshua.
15 Assuredly true and worthy of all acceptation is this saying: that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.
The saying is faithful and worthy of all acceptance, that Messiah Yeshua came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.
16 But for this reason I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might show all long-suffering, for an example to those who might afterward believe on him in order to life eternal. (aiōnios )
However, for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first, Yeshua the Messiah might display all his patience, for an example of those who were going to believe in him for everlasting life. (aiōnios )
17 Now to the King of the ages, the incorruptible, invisible, only wise God, be honor and glory from age to age. Amen.) (aiōn )
Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen. (aiōn )
18 This charge I commit to you, son Timothy, in accordance with the preceding prophecies concerning you, that by them you may war the good warfare,
This instruction I commit to you, my child Timothy, according to the prophecies which led the way to you, that by them you may wage the good warfare;
19 holding faith and a good conscience, which some having thrust from them, as it respects faith have made shipwreck; of whom are Hymenæus and Alexander,
holding faith and a good conscience; which some having thrust away made a shipwreck concerning the faith;
20 whom I have delivered to Satan, that they may learn not to revile.
of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I delivered to Satan, that they might be taught not to blaspheme.
