1 Corinthians 4
1 Let each one so think of us as ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God.
Que chacun nous tienne pour Ministres de Christ, et pour dispensateurs des mystères de Dieu.
2 Now it is required in stewards, that each one be found faithful.
Mais, au reste, il est exigé des dispensateurs que chacun soit trouvé fidèle.
3 But with me, it matters very little, that I should be judged by you, or by the judgment of men: indeed, I do not judge myself.
Pour moi, je me soucie fort peu d'être jugé de vous, ou de jugement d'homme; et aussi je ne me juge point moi-même.
4 For, though I am conscious of no wrong, yet by this I am not justified: but he that judges me is the Lord.
Car je ne me sens coupable de rien; mais pour cela je ne suis pas justifié; mais celui qui me juge, c'est le Seigneur.
5 So, then, judge nothing before the time, till the Lord comes, who will bring to light the secret works of darkness, and will also make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall each have his praise from God.
C'est pourquoi ne jugez de rien avant le temps, jusqu'à ce que le Seigneur vienne, qui aussi mettra en lumière les choses cachées dans les ténèbres, et qui manifestera les conseils des cœurs; et alors Dieu rendra à chacun [sa] louange.
6 And these things, brethren, I have, in figure, applied to myself and Apollos, for your sakes, that you may learn in us not to think more of teachers than what has been written; and that no one of you be vain of one to the injury of another.
Or, mes frères, j'ai tourné [par une façon de parler], ce discours sur moi et sur Apollos, à cause de vous; afin que vous appreniez de nous à ne point présumer au delà de ce qui est écrit, de peur que l'un pour l'autre vous ne vous enfliez contre autrui.
7 For who gave you distinction, as a teacher? And what have you as a teacher, that you did not receive? And if you received it, why do you boast, as if you had not received it?
Car qui est-ce qui met de la différence entre toi et un autre? et qu'est-ce que tu as, que tu ne l'aies reçu? et si tu l'as reçu, pourquoi t'en glorifies-tu comme si tu ne l'avais point reçu?
8 You, Corinthians, are already full; you are already rich; you have reigned as kings independently of us. And that you did indeed reign, that we also might reign with you!
Vous êtes déjà rassasiés, vous êtes déjà enrichis, vous êtes faits Rois sans nous; et plût à Dieu que vous régnassiez, afin que nous régnassions aussi avec vous!
9 For I think that God has appointed us the apostles, to the lowest place, as under sentence of death; for we have become a spectacle to the world, both to angels and to men.
Car je pense que Dieu nous a exposés publiquement, [nous] qui sommes les derniers Apôtres, comme des gens condamnés à la mort, vu que nous sommes rendus le spectacle du monde, des Anges et des hommes.
10 We are fools for Christ’s sake, but you are wise in Christ; we are weak, but you are strong; you are honored, but we are despised.
Nous [sommes] fous pour l'amour de Christ, mais vous [êtes] sages en Christ; nous [sommes] faibles, et vous [êtes] forts; vous êtes dans l'estime, et nous sommes dans le mépris.
11 Even to this present hour we both hunger and thirst, and are poorly clothed, and are maltreated, and wander about without a home,
Jusqu'à cette heure nous souffrons la faim et la soif, et nous sommes nus; nous sommes souffletés, et nous sommes errants çà et là.
12 and labor, working with our own hands. When reviled, we bless; when persecuted, we endure;
Et nous nous fatiguons en travaillant de nos propres mains; on dit du mal de nous, et nous bénissons; nous sommes persécutés, et nous le souffrons.
13 when defamed, we entreat; we have become like the outcasts of the world, the offscouring of all things to this day.
Nous sommes blâmés, et nous prions; nous sommes faits comme les balayures du monde, et comme le rebut de tous, jusqu'à maintenant.
14 I do not write these things that I may make you ashamed; but as my beloved children I admonish you.
Je n'écris point ces choses pour vous faire honte; mais je vous donne des avis comme à mes chers enfants.
15 For though you have ten thousand tutors in Christ, yet you have not many fathers: for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel.
Car quand vous auriez dix mille maîtres en Christ, vous n'avez pourtant pas plusieurs pères: car c'est moi qui vous ai engendrés en Jésus-Christ par l'Evangile.
16 I exhort you, therefore, be imitators of me.
Je vous prie donc d'être mes imitateurs.
17 For this reason have I sent to you Timothy, who is my son, beloved and faithful in the Lord, that he may remind you of my ways that are in Christ, as I teach everywhere, in every church.
C'est pour cela que je vous ai envoyé Timothée, qui est mon fils bien-aimé, et qui est fidèle en [notre] Seigneur; afin qu'il vous fasse souvenir de mes voies en Christ, et comment j'enseigne partout dans chaque Eglise.
18 Now, some have become arrogant, as if I were not coming to you;
Or quelques-uns se sont glorifiés comme si je ne devais point aller vers vous.
19 but I will come to you quickly, if the Lord will; and I will know, not the speech of those who have become arrogant, but the power.
Mais j'irai bientôt vers vous, si le Seigneur le veut; et je connaîtrai non point la parole de ceux qui se sont glorifiés, mais l'efficace.
20 For the kingdom of God is not in speech, but in power.
Car le Royaume de Dieu ne consiste point en paroles, mais en efficace.
21 What do you wish? Shall I come to you with a rod, or in love, and in the spirit of gentleness?
Que voulez-vous? irai-je à vous avec la verge, ou avec charité, et un esprit de douceur?
