< Psalms 124 >
1 A Song of Ascents; of David. If it had not been Jehovah who was on our side, Let Israel now say,
Canticum graduum. Nisi quia Dominus erat in nobis, dicat nunc Israel:
2 If it had not been Jehovah who was on our side, When men rose up against us;
nisi quia Dominus erat in nobis, Cum exurgerent homines in nos,
3 Then they had swallowed us up alive, When their wrath was kindled against us:
forte vivos deglutissent nos: Cum irasceretur furor eorum in nos,
4 Then the waters had overwhelmed us, The stream had gone over our soul;
forsitan aqua absorbuisset nos.
5 Then the proud waters had gone over our soul.
Torrentem pertransivit anima nostra: forsitan pertransisset anima nostra aquam intolerabilem.
6 Blessed be Jehovah, Who hath not given us as a prey to their teeth.
Benedictus Dominus qui non dedit nos, in captionem dentibus eorum.
7 Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers: The snare is broken, and we are escaped.
Anima nostra sicut passer erepta est de laqueo venantium: Laqueus contritus est, et nos liberati sumus.
8 Our help is in the name of Jehovah, Who made heaven and earth.
Adiutorium nostrum in nomine Domini, qui fecit cælum et terram.
