Matthew 6
1 Take heed that ye do not your righteousness before men, to be seen of them: else ye have no reward with your Father who is in heaven.
“Angalieni msitende wema wenu mbele ya watu ili wawaone. Kwa maana mkifanya hivyo, hamna thawabu kutoka kwa Baba yenu aliye mbinguni.
2 When therefore thou doest alms, sound not a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have received their reward.
“Hivyo mnapowapa wahitaji, msipige panda mbele yenu kama wafanyavyo wanafiki katika masinagogi na mitaani, ili wasifiwe na watu. Amin nawaambia wao wamekwisha kupokea thawabu yao.
3 But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:
Lakini ninyi mtoapo sadaka, fanyeni kwa siri, hata mkono wako wa kushoto usijue mkono wako wa kuume unachofanya,
4 that thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father who seeth in secret shall recompense thee.
ili sadaka yako iwe ni siri. Ndipo Baba yako wa mbinguni, yeye aonaye sirini atakupa thawabu kwa wazi.
5 And when ye pray, ye shall not be as the hypocrites: for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have received their reward.
“Nanyi msalipo, msiwe kama wanafiki, maana wao hupenda kusali wakiwa wamesimama katika masinagogi na kando ya barabara ili waonekane na watu. Amin nawaambia, wao wamekwisha kupata thawabu yao.
6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thine inner chamber, and having shut thy door, pray to thy Father who is in secret, and thy Father who seeth in secret shall recompense thee.
Lakini wewe unaposali, ingia chumbani mwako, funga mlango na umwombe Baba yako aliye sirini. Naye Baba yako aonaye sirini atakupa thawabu yako.
7 And in praying use not vain repetitions, as the Gentiles do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
Nanyi mnaposali msiseme maneno kama wafanyavyo watu wasiomjua Mungu. Kwa maana wao hudhani kwamba watasikiwa kwa sababu ya wingi wa maneno yao.
8 Be not therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.
Msiwe kama wao, kwa sababu Baba yenu anajua kile mnachohitaji kabla hamjamwomba.
9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
“Hivi basi, ndivyo iwapasavyo kuomba: “‘Baba yetu uliye mbinguni, Jina lako litukuzwe.
10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so on earth.
Ufalme wako uje. Mapenzi yako yafanyike hapa duniani kama huko mbinguni.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
Utupatie riziki yetu ya kila siku.
12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
Utusamehe deni zetu, kama sisi nasi tulivyokwisha kuwasamehe wadeni wetu.
13 And bring us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil [one].
Usitutie majaribuni, bali utuokoe kutoka kwa yule mwovu [kwa kuwa Ufalme ni wako, na nguvu, na utukufu, hata milele. Amen].’
14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
Kwa kuwa kama mkiwasamehe watu wengine wanapowakosea, Baba yenu wa mbinguni atawasamehe ninyi pia.
15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
Lakini msipowasamehe watu wengine makosa yao, naye Baba yenu hatawasamehe ninyi makosa yenu.
16 Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may be seen of men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have received their reward.
“Mnapofunga, msiwe wenye huzuni kama wafanyavyo wanafiki. Maana wao hukunja nyuso zao ili kuwaonyesha wengine kwamba wamefunga. Amin, amin nawaambia wao wamekwisha kupata thawabu yao kamilifu.
17 But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thy head, and wash thy face;
Lakini mnapofunga, jipakeni mafuta kichwani na kunawa nyuso zenu
18 that thou be not seen of men to fast, but of thy Father who is in secret: and thy Father, who seeth in secret, shall recompense thee.
ili kufunga kwenu kusionekane na watu wengine ila Baba yenu aketiye mahali pa siri; naye Baba yenu aonaye sirini atawapa thawabu yenu kwa wazi.
19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon the earth, where moth and rust consume, and where thieves break through and steal:
“Msijiwekee hazina duniani, mahali ambapo nondo na kutu huharibu, nao wevi huvunja na kuiba.
20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth consume, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
Lakini jiwekeeni hazina mbinguni, mahali ambapo nondo na kutu haviharibu, wala wevi hawavunji na kuiba.
21 for where thy treasure is, there will thy heart be also.
Kwa sababu mahali hazina yako ilipo, hapo ndipo pia moyo wako utakapokuwa.
22 The lamp of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.
“Jicho ni taa ya mwili. Kama jicho lako ni nyofu, mwili wako wote utajaa nuru.
23 But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is the darkness!
Lakini kama jicho lako ni ovu, mwili wako wote utajawa na giza. Kwa hiyo basi, kama nuru iliyomo ndani yako ni giza, hilo ni giza kuu namna gani!
24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
“Hakuna mtu awezaye kuwatumikia mabwana wawili. Kwa kuwa atamchukia huyu na kumpenda yule mwingine, au atashikamana sana na huyu na kumdharau yule mwingine. Hamwezi kumtumikia Mungu pamoja na Mali.
25 Therefore I say unto you, Be not anxious for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than the food, and the body than the raiment?
“Kwa hiyo nawaambia, msisumbukie maisha yenu kwamba mtakula nini au mtakunywa nini; au msumbukie miili yenu kwamba mtavaa nini. Je, maisha si zaidi ya chakula, na mwili zaidi ya mavazi?
26 Behold the birds of the heaven, that they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; and your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are not ye of much more value than they?
Waangalieni ndege wa angani; wao hawapandi wala hawavuni au kuweka ghalani, lakini Baba yenu wa mbinguni huwalisha. Je, ninyi si wa thamani zaidi kuliko hao ndege?
27 And which of you by being anxious can add one cubit unto the measure of his life?
Ni nani miongoni mwenu ambaye kwa kujitaabisha kwake anaweza kujiongezea hata saa moja zaidi katika maisha yake?
28 And why are ye anxious concerning raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:
“Nanyi kwa nini mnajitaabisha kwa ajili ya mavazi? Fikirini maua ya shambani yameavyo. Hayafanyi kazi wala hayafumi.
29 yet I say unto you, that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
Lakini nawaambia, hata Solomoni katika fahari yake yote hakuvikwa vizuri kama mojawapo ya hayo maua.
30 But if God doth so clothe the grass of the field, which to-day is, and to-morrow is cast into the oven, [shall he] not much more [clothe] you, O ye of little faith?
Basi ikiwa Mungu huyavika hivi majani ya shambani, ambayo leo yapo na kesho yanatupwa motoni, je, hatawavika ninyi vizuri zaidi, enyi wa imani haba?
31 Be not therefore anxious, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?
Kwa hiyo msiwe na wasiwasi, mkisema, ‘Tutakula nini?’ au ‘Tutakunywa nini?’ au ‘Tutavaa nini?’
32 For after all these things do the Gentiles seek; for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
Watu wasiomjua Mungu ndio wanaoshindania hayo, lakini Baba yenu wa mbinguni anafahamu kuwa mnahitaji haya yote.
33 But seek ye first his kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Lakini utafuteni kwanza Ufalme wa Mungu na haki yake, na haya yote atawapa pia.
34 Be not therefore anxious for the morrow: for the morrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
Kwa hiyo msiwe na wasiwasi kuhusu kesho, kwa sababu kesho itajitaabikia yenyewe. Yatosha kwa siku masumbufu yake.
