Ecclesiastes 10
1 Dead flies cause the oil of the perfumer to send forth an evil odor; [so] doth a little folly outweigh wisdom and honor.
૧જેમ મરેલી માખીઓ અત્તરને દૂષિત કરી દે છે, તેવી જ રીતે થોડી મૂર્ખાઈ બુદ્ધિ અને સન્માનને દબાવી દે છે.
2 A wise man’s heart is at his right hand; but a fool’s heart at his left.
૨બુદ્ધિમાન માણસનું હૃદય તેને જમણે હાથે છે, પણ મૂર્ખનું હૃદય તેને ડાબે હાથે છે.
3 Yea also, when the fool walketh by the way, his understanding faileth him, and he saith to every one [that] he is a fool.
૩વળી મૂર્ખ પોતાને રસ્તે જાય છે, ત્યારે તેની બુદ્ધિ ખૂટી જાય છે, અને તે દરેકને કહે છે કે હું મૂર્ખ છું.
4 If the spirit of the ruler rise up against thee, leave not thy place; for gentleness allayeth great offences.
૪જ્યારે તારો અધિકારી તારા પર ગુસ્સે થાય તો તું ત્યાંથી નાસી ન જા, કારણ કે નમ્ર થવાથી ભારે ગુસ્સો પણ સમી જાય છે.
5 There is an evil which I have seen under the sun, as it were an error which proceedeth from the ruler:
૫મેં આ દુનિયામાં એક અનર્થ જોયો છે, અને તે એ છે કે અધિકારી દ્વારા થયેલી ભૂલ;
6 folly is set in great dignity, and the rich sit in a low place.
૬મૂર્ખને ઉચ્ચ પદવીએ સ્થાપન કરવામાં આવે છે, જ્યારે ધનવાનો નીચા સ્થળે બેસે છે.
7 I have seen servants upon horses, and princes walking like servants upon the earth.
૭મેં ગુલામોને ઘોડે સવાર થયેલા અને અમીરોને ગુલામોની જેમ પગે ચાલતા જોયા છે.
8 He that diggeth a pit shall fall into it; and whoso breaketh through a wall, a serpent shall bite him.
૮જે ખાડો ખોદે છે તે જ તેમાં પડે છે અને જે વાડમાં છીંડું પાડે છે તેને સાપ કરડે છે.
9 Whoso heweth out stones shall be hurt therewith; [and] he that cleaveth wood is endangered thereby.
૯જે માણસ પથ્થર ખસેડશે, તેને જ તે વાગશે, અને કઠિયારો લાકડાથી જ જોખમમાં પડે છે.
10 If the iron be blunt, and one do not whet the edge, then must he put to more strength: but wisdom is profitable to direct.
૧૦જો કોઈ બુઠ્ઠા લોખંડને ઘસીને તેની ધાર ન કાઢે, તો તેને વધારે શકિતની જરૂર પડે છે, સીધા ચાલવાને માટે બુદ્ધિ લાભકારક છે.
11 If the serpent bite before it is charmed, then is there no advantage in the charmer.
૧૧જો મંત્ર્યા અગાઉ જ સાપ કોઈને કરડી જાય, તો મદારીની વિદ્યા નકામી છે.
12 The words of a wise man’s mouth are gracious; but the lips of a fool will swallow up himself.
૧૨જ્ઞાની માણસનાં શબ્દો માયાળુ છે પણ મૂર્ખના બોલ તેનો પોતાનો જ નાશ આમંત્રે છે.
13 The beginning of the words of his mouth is foolishness; and the end of his talk is mischievous madness.
૧૩તેના મુખના શબ્દોનો આરંભ મૂર્ખાઈ છે, અને તેના બોલવાનું પરિણામ નુકસાનકારક છે.
14 A fool also multiplieth words: [yet] man knoweth not what shall be; and that which shall be after him, who can tell him?
૧૪વળી મૂર્ખ માણસ વધારે બોલે છે, પણ ભવિષ્ય વિષે કોઈ જાણતું નથી. કોણ જાણે છે કે તેની પોતાની પાછળ શું થવાનું છે?
15 The labor of fools wearieth every one of them; for he knoweth not how to go to the city.
૧૫મૂર્ખની મહેનત તેઓમાંના દરેકને થકવી નાખે છે. કેમ કે તેને નગરમાં જતાં આવડતું નથી.
16 Woe to thee, O land, when thy king is a child, and thy princes eat in the morning!
૧૬જો તારો રાજા યુવાન હોય, અને સરદારો સવારમાં ઉજાણીઓ કરતા હોય, ત્યારે તને અફસોસ છે!
17 Happy art thou, O land, when thy king is the son of nobles, and thy princes eat in due season, for strength, and not for drunkenness!
૧૭તારો રાજા કુલીન કુટુંબનો હોય ત્યારે દેશ આનંદ કરે છે, તારા હાકેમો કેફને સારુ નહી પણ બળ મેળવવાને માટે યોગ્ય સમયે ખાતા હોય છે. ત્યારે તો તું આશીર્વાદિત છે!
18 By slothfulness the roof sinketh in; and through idleness of the hands the house leaketh.
૧૮આળસથી છાપરું નમી પડે છે, અને હાથની આળસથી ઘરમાં પાણી ટપકે છે.
19 A feast is made for laughter, and wine maketh glad the life; and money answereth all things.
૧૯ઉજાણી મોજમજાને માટે ગોઠવવામાં આવે છે, અને દ્રાક્ષારસ જીવને ખુશી આપે છે. પૈસા સઘળી વસ્તુની જરૂરિયાત પૂરી પાળે છે.
20 Revile not the king, no, not in thy thought; and revile not the rich in thy bedchamber: for a bird of the heavens shall carry the voice, and that which hath wings shall tell the matter.
૨૦રાજાને શાપ ન આપીશ તારા વિચારમાં પણ નહિ, અને દ્રવ્યવાનને તારા સૂવાના ઓરડામાંથી પણ શાપ ન દે, કારણ કે, વાયુચર પક્ષી તે વાત લઈ જશે અને પંખી તે વાત કહી દેશે.
