Psalms 8

1 For the Chief Musician; on an instrument of Gath. A Psalm by David. LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens!

Au maître de chant. Sur la Gitthienne. Chant de David. Yahweh, notre Seigneur, que ton nom est glorieux sur toute la terre! Toi qui as revêtu les cieux de ta majesté!

2 From the lips of babes and infants you have established strength, because of your adversaries, that you might silence the enemy and the avenger.

Par la bouche des enfants et de ceux qui sont à la mamelle tu t’es fondé une force pour confondre tes ennemis, pour imposer silence à l’adversaire et au blasphémateur.

3 When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have ordained,

Quand je contemple tes cieux, ouvrage de tes doigts, la lune et les étoiles que tu as créées, je m’écrie:

4 what is man, that you think of him? What is the son of man, that you care for him?

Qu’est-ce que l’homme, pour que tu te souviennes de lui, et le fils de l’homme, pour que tu en prennes soin?

5 For you have made him a little lower than the angels, and crowned him with glory and honor.

Tu l’as fait de peu inférieur à Dieu, tu l’as couronné de gloire et d’honneur.

6 You make him ruler over the works of your hands. You have put all things under his feet:

Tu lui as donné l’empire sur les œuvres de tes mains; tu as mis toutes choses sous ses pieds:

7 All sheep and cattle, yes, and the animals of the field,

Brebis et bœufs, tous ensemble, et les animaux des champs;

8 the birds of the sky, the fish of the sea, and whatever passes through the paths of the seas.

oiseaux du ciel et poissons de la mer, et tout ce qui parcourt les sentiers des mers.

9 LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Yahweh, notre Seigneur, que ton nom est glorieux sur toute la terre!
