Psalms 8

1 For the Chief Musician; on an instrument of Gath. A Psalm by David. LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens!

Davidin Psalmi, edelläveisaajalle, Gittitin päällä. Herra meidän Herramme! kuinka ihmeellinen on sinun nimes kaikessa maassa, joka panit kunnias taivasten ylitse.

2 From the lips of babes and infants you have established strength, because of your adversaries, that you might silence the enemy and the avenger.

Nuorten lasten ja imeväisten suusta perustit sinä voiman, vihollistes tähden, ettäs vihollisen ja kostajan murentaisit.

3 When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have ordained,

Sillä minä näen taivaat, sinun sormeis teot, kuun ja tähdet, jotka valmistit.

4 what is man, that you think of him? What is the son of man, that you care for him?

Mikä on ihminen, ettäs häntä muistat? eli ihmisen poika, ettäs häntä etsiskelet?

5 For you have made him a little lower than the angels, and crowned him with glory and honor.

Sinä teit hänen vähää vähemmäksi enkeleitä; vaan sinä kaunistat hänen kunnialla ja kaunistuksella.

6 You make him ruler over the works of your hands. You have put all things under his feet:

Sinä asetat hänen sinun käsitekois herraksi: kaikki olet sinä hänen jalkainsa alle heittänyt:

7 All sheep and cattle, yes, and the animals of the field,

Lampaat ja kaikki karjat, ja myös metsän eläimet,

8 the birds of the sky, the fish of the sea, and whatever passes through the paths of the seas.

Linnut taivaan alla ja kalat meressä ja mitä meressä vaeltaa.

9 LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Herra meidän Herramme, kuinka ihmeellinen on sinun nimes kaikessa maassa!
