< Psalms 62 >

1 For the Chief Musician. To Jeduthun. A Psalm by David. My soul rests in God alone. My salvation is from him.
God is the only one who can give me peace in my inner being, and he is the one who saves me [from my enemies].
2 He alone is my rock, my salvation, and my fortress. I will never be greatly shaken.
Only he is like an [overhanging] rock [under which I can be safe] [MET]; he will be [like] a shelter, [with the result that] I will never be defeated [MET].
3 How long will you assault a man? Would all of you throw him down, like a leaning wall, like a tottering fence?
When will you, [my enemies], stop attacking me [RHQ]? I feel that I am [as useless against you as] a wall that is about to fall over or a broken-down fence [MET].
4 They fully intend to throw him down from his lofty place. They delight in lies. They bless with their mouth, but they curse inwardly. (Selah)
My enemies plan to remove me from my important position so that people no longer honor me. They delight in telling lies. They bless people by what they say [MTY], but in their inner beings they curse [those people].
5 My soul, wait in silence for God alone, for my expectation is from him.
God is the only one who gives me peace in my inner being; he is the one whom I confidently expect [to help me].
6 He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress. I will not be shaken.
Only he is [like an overhanging] rock [under which I can be safe] [MET]; he is [like] a shelter, and [as a result] I will never be defeated.
7 My salvation and my honor is with God. The rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.
God is the one who saves me and honors me. He is [like an overhanging] strong rock under which I [can] find shelter [MET].
8 Trust in him at all times, you people. Pour out your heart before him. God is a refuge for us. (Selah)
[You my] people, always trust in him. Tell him all your troubles, because he is (our refuge/the one who protects us) [MET].
9 Surely men of low degree are just a breath, and men of high degree are a lie. In the balances they will go up. They are together lighter than a breath.
People who are considered to be unimportant are [as worthless/unreliable as] a breath of air; people who are considered to be important [also] really (amount to nothing/cannot be trusted [to help us)]. If you put them all on a scale, [it would be as if] they weighed less than a puff of air.
10 Do not trust in oppression. Do not become vain in robbery. If riches increase, do not set your heart on them.
Do not trust in money gained by extorting it from others; do not try to gain anything by robbing others. If you become very wealthy, do not trust in [IDM] your money.
11 God has spoken once; twice I have heard this, that power belongs to God.
I have heard God say more than once that he is the one who [really] has power,
12 Also to you, Lord, belongs loving kindness, for you reward every man according to his work.
and that he is the one who faithfully loves [us]. He rewards every one [of us] according to the deeds that we do.
