Matthew 5
1 Seeing the multitudes, he went up onto the mountain. When he had sat down, his disciples came to him.
Da er aber die Volkshaufen sah, stieg er auf den Berg, und als er sich setzte, kamen seine Jünger zu ihm.
2 He opened his mouth and taught them, saying,
Und er öffnete seinen Mund, lehrte sie und sprach:
3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.
Selig sind die geistlich Armen! denn ihrer ist die Himmelsherrschaft. -
4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
Selig die Leidtragenden! denn sie werden getröstet werden. -
5 Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth.
Selig die Sanftmütigen! denn sie werden die Erde ererben. -
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.
Selig die nach Gerechtigkeit Hungernden und Dürstenden! denn sie sollen statt werden. -
7 Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.
Selig die Barmherzigen! denn sie werden Barmherzigkeit erfahren. -
8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
Selig die Reinen im Herzen! denn sie werden Gott schauen. -
9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God.
Selig die Friedfertigen! denn sie werden Gottes Söhne heißen. -
10 Blessed are those who have been persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.
Selig die um der Gerechtigkeit willen Verfolgten! denn ihrer ist die Himmelsherrschaft. -
11 “Blessed are you when people reproach you, persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
Selig seid ihr, wenn man euch geschmäht und verfolgt und alles Böse wider euch gelogen hat, um meinetwillen!
12 Rejoice, and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven. For that is how they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
Freuet euch und frohlocket, denn euer Lohn ist groß in den Himmeln; denn also haben sie verfolgt die Propheten, die vor euch waren.
13 “You are the salt of the earth, but if the salt has lost its flavor, with what will it be salted? It is then good for nothing, but to be cast out and trodden under the feet of men.
Ihr seid das Salz der Erde; wenn aber das Salz fade geworden ist, womit soll gesalzen werden? Es ist zu nichts mehr nütze, als daß es hinausgeschüttet und von den Leuten zertreten werde.
14 You are the light of the world. A city located on a hill cannot be hidden.
Ihr seid das Licht der Welt. Eine Stadt, die auf einem Berge liegt, kann nicht verborgen werden.
15 Neither do you light a lamp and put it under a measuring basket, but on a stand; and it shines to all who are in the house.
Auch zündet man nicht eine Leuchte an, und setzt sie unter den Scheffel, sondern auf den Leuchter, und so leuchtet sie allen, die im Hause sind.
16 Even so, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
Also leuchte euer Licht vor den Leuten, damit sie eure guten Werke sehen, und euern Vater in den Himmeln preisen.
17 “Do not think that I came to destroy the law or the prophets. I did not come to destroy, but to fulfill.
Meinet nicht, daß ich gekommen bin, das Gesetz, oder die Propheten auszulöschen; ich bin nicht gekommen auszulöschen, sondern zu erfüllen.
18 For most certainly, I tell you, until heaven and earth pass away, not even one smallest letter or one tiny pen stroke shall in any way pass away from the law, until all things are accomplished.
Denn, wahrlich ich sage euch, bis daß der Himmel und die Erde vergeht, wird nicht ein Buchstabe noch ein Strichlein vom Gesetz vergehen, bis daß es alles geschehe.
19 Therefore, whoever shall break one of these least commandments and teach others to do so, shall be called least in the Kingdom of Heaven; but whoever shall do and teach them shall be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven.
Wer nun eines von diesen kleinsten Geboten auflöst, und lehrt die Leute also, der wird der kleinste heißen in der Himmelsherrschaft; wer es aber tut oder lehrt, der wird groß heißen in der Himmelsherrschaft.
20 For I tell you that unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, there is no way you will enter into the Kingdom of Heaven.
Denn ich sage euch: Es sei denn eure Gerechtigkeit völliger, denn die der Schriftgelehrten und Pharisäer, so werdet ihr nicht in die Himmelsherrschaft eingehen.
21 “You have heard that it was said to the ancient ones, ‘You shall not murder;’ and ‘Whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment.’
Ihr habt gehört, daß zu den Alten gesagt ist: "Du sollst nicht töten; wer aber tötet, der soll dem Gericht verfallen sein."
22 But I tell you that everyone who is angry with his brother without a cause will be in danger of the judgment. Whoever says to his brother, 'Raca!' will be in danger of the council. Whoever says, 'You fool!' will be in danger of the fire of Gehenna (Geenna g1067).
Ich aber sage euch, jeder, der mit seinem Bruder zürnt, der soll dem Gericht verfallen sein; wer aber gar zu seinem Bruder sagt: Raka! (Dumkopf) der soll dem hohen Rat verfallen sein; wer aber gar sagt: Narr! der soll in das feurige Tal Hinnom verfallen sein. (Geenna g1067)
23 “If therefore you are offering your gift at the altar, and there remember that your brother has anything against you,
Wenn du deine Gabe auf dem Altar opferst, und wirst daselbst eingedenkt, daß dein Bruder etwas wider dich hat,
24 leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.
So laß daselbst deine Gabe vor dem Altar, und gehe zuerst hin, und versöhne dich mit deinem Bruder, und alsdann komme, und opfere deine Gabe.
25 Agree with your adversary quickly while you are with him on the way; lest perhaps the prosecutor deliver you to the judge, and the judge deliver you to the officer, and you be cast into prison.
Sei willfertig deinem Widersacher bald, so lange du noch mit ihm auf dem Wege bist, damit der Widersacher dich nicht dem Richter überliefere, und der Richter überliefere dich dem Gerichtsdiener, und du werdest in den Kerker geworfen.
26 Most certainly I tell you, you shall by no means get out of there until you have paid the last penny.
Wahrlich ich sage dir, du wirst nicht von dannen herauskommen, bis du den letzten Heller bezahlt hast
27 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery;’
Ihr habt gehört, daß gesagt ist: "Du sollst nicht ehebrechen".
28 but I tell you that everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart.
Ich aber sage euch: jeder, der ein Weib ansieht, ihrer zu begehren, der hat schon mit ihr die Ehe gebrochen in seinem Herzen.
29 If your right eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out and throw it away from you. For it is more profitable for you that one of your members should perish than for your whole body to be cast into Gehenna (Geenna g1067).
Wenn aber dein rechtes Auge dir zum Fallstrick wird, so reiß es aus, und wirf es von dir; denn es ist besser, daß eines deiner Glieder verderbe, und nicht dein ganzer Leib ins Tal Hinnom geworfen werde. (Geenna g1067)
30 If your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off, and throw it away from you. For it is more profitable for you that one of your members should perish, than for your whole body to be cast into Gehenna (Geenna g1067).
Und wenn deine rechte Hand dir zum Fallstrick wird, so haue sie ab und wirf sie von dir; denn es ist dir besser, daß eines deiner Glieder verderbe, denn daß dein ganzer Leib ins Tal Hinnom geworfen werde. (Geenna g1067)
31 “It was also said, ‘Whoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorce,’
Es ist auch gesagt: "Wer sein Weib entläßt, der gebe ihr einen Scheidebrief":
32 but I tell you that whoever puts away his wife, except for the cause of sexual immorality, makes her an adulteress; and whoever marries her when she is put away commits adultery.
Ich aber sage euch: Wer sein Weib entläßt, außer von wegen Hurrerei, der macht, daß sie die Ehe bricht, und wer eine Entlassene freit, der bricht die Ehe.
33 “Again you have heard that it was said to the ancient ones, ‘You shall not make false vows, but shall perform to the Lord your vows,’
Abermals habt ihr gehört, daß zu den Alten gesagt ist: "Du sollst nicht falsch schwören, sondern dem Herrn deine Schwüre halten".
34 but I tell you, do not swear at all: neither by heaven, for it is the throne of God;
Ich aber sage euch, daß ihr gar nicht schwören sollt, weder beim Himmel, denn er ist Gottes Thron;
35 nor by the earth, for it is the footstool of his feet; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King.
Noch bei der Erde, denn sie ist der Schemel seiner Füße; noch bei Jerusalem, denn es ist des großen Königs Stadt.
36 Neither shall you swear by your head, for you cannot make one hair white or black.
Noch bei deinem Haute sollst du schwören, denn du kannst nicht ein Haar weiß, oder schwarz machen.
37 But let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes’ and your ‘No’ be ‘No.’ Whatever is more than these is of the evil one.
Eure Rede sei: Ja, ja; nein, nein; was darüber ist, das ist vom Übel.
38 “You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.’
Ihr habt gehört, daß gesagt ist: "Auge um Auge, und Zahn um Zahn".
39 But I tell you, do not resist him who is evil; but whoever strikes you on your right cheek, turn to him the other also.
Ich aber sage euch, daß man dem Bösen nicht widerstehen soll, sondern wenn dich jemand auf deinen rechten Backen schlägt, so biete ihm den andern auch dar.
40 If anyone sues you to take away your coat, let him have your cloak also.
Und dem, der mit dir rechten und deinen Rock nehmen will, daß auch den Überwurf.
41 Whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two.
Und wer dich zwingt eine Meile, mit dem gehe zwei.
42 Give to him who asks you, and do not turn away him who desires to borrow from you.
Gib dem, der dich bittet, und wende dich nicht von dem, der dir abborgen will.
43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’
Ihr habt gehört, daß gesagt ist: "Du sollst deinen Nächsten lieben und deinen Feind hassen".
44 But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you,
Ich aber sage euch: Liebet eure Feinde! Segnet, die euch fluchen! Tut wohl denen, die euch hassen, und betet für die, so euch beleidigen und verfolgen,
45 that you may be children of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the just and the unjust.
Auf daß ihr Söhne eures Vaters in den Himmeln seid, denn er läßt seine Sonne aufgehen über Böse und Gute, und läßt regnen über Gerechte und Ungerechte.
46 For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same?
Denn wenn ihr liebt, die euch lieben, was für ein Verdienst habt ihr? Tun nicht die Zöllner dasselbe"
47 If you only greet your friends, what more do you do than others? Do not even the tax collectors do the same?
Und wenn ihr eure Brüder allein grüßet, was tut ihr Sonderliches? Tun nicht die Heiden auch also?
48 Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.
So sollt nun ihr vollkommen werden, gleichwie euer Vater in den Himmeln vollkommen ist.
