Matthew 27
1 Now when morning had come, all the chief priests and the elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death.
!- Quand le matin fut venu, tous les principaux sacrificateurs et les anciens du peuple tinrent conseil contre Jésus, pour le faire mourir.
2 They bound him, led him away, and delivered him up to Pontius Pilate, the governor.
Et après l'avoir enchaîné, ils l'emmenèrent et le livrèrent à Pilate, le gouverneur.
3 Then Judas, who betrayed him, when he saw that Jesus was condemned, felt remorse, and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,
Alors Judas, qui l'avait trahi, voyant que Jésus était condamné, fut pris de remords et rapporta les trente pièces d'argent aux principaux sacrificateurs et aux anciens,
4 saying, “I have sinned in that I betrayed innocent blood.” But they said, “What is that to us? You see to it.”
en disant: J'ai péché, en livrant le sang innocent. Mais ils répondirent: Que nous importe? Cela te regarde!
5 He threw down the pieces of silver in the sanctuary and departed. Then he went away and hanged himself.
Jetant alors les pièces d'argent dans le temple, il se retira, et il alla se pendre.
6 The chief priests took the pieces of silver and said, “It’s not lawful to put them into the treasury, since it is the price of blood.”
Mais les principaux sacrificateurs prirent les pièces d'argent, et ils dirent: Il n'est pas permis de les mettre dans le trésor sacré, puisque c'est le prix du sang.
7 They took counsel, and bought the potter’s field with them to bury strangers in.
Après en avoir délibéré, ils achetèrent avec cet argent le Champ du Potier, pour la sépulture des étrangers.
8 Therefore that field has been called “The Field of Blood” to this day.
C'est pourquoi ce champ-là est appelé, encore aujourd'hui, «le Champ du sang».
9 Then that which was spoken through Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled, saying, “They took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him upon whom a price had been set, whom some of the children of Israel priced,
Alors fut accompli ce qui avait été dit par Jérémie, le prophète: «Ils ont reçu les trente pièces d'argent, le prix de celui qui a été évalué, oui, évalué par les enfants d'Israël;
10 and they gave them for the potter’s field, as the Lord commanded me.”
et il les ont données pour le champ du potier, comme le Seigneur me l'avait commandé.»
11 Now Jesus stood before the governor; and the governor asked him, saying, “Are you the King of the Jews?” Jesus said to him, “So you say.”
Jésus comparut devant le gouverneur, et le gouverneur l'interrogea, en disant: C'est toi qui es le roi des Juifs? Jésus répondit: Tu le dis.
12 When he was accused by the chief priests and elders, he answered nothing.
Et pendant que les principaux sacrificateurs et les anciens l'accusaient, il ne répondait rien.
13 Then Pilate said to him, “Do not you hear how many things they testify against you?”
Alors Pilate lui dit: N'entends-tu pas tous les témoignages qu'ils déposent contre toi?
14 He gave him no answer, not even one word, so that the governor marveled greatly.
Mais il ne répondit rien sur aucun point, de sorte que le gouverneur était fort étonné.
15 Now at the feast the governor was accustomed to release to the multitude one prisoner whom they desired.
A chaque fête de Pâque, le gouverneur avait coutume de relâcher un prisonnier, celui que le peuple désignait.
16 They had then a notable prisoner called Barabbas.
Or, il y avait, à ce moment-là, un prisonnier fameux, nommé Barabbas.
17 When therefore they were gathered together, Pilate said to them, “Whom do you want me to release to you? Barabbas, or Jesus who is called Christ?”
Pilate dit donc au peuple rassemblé: Lequel voulez-vous que je vous relâche: Barabbas, ou Jésus, celui qu'on appelle Christ?
18 For he knew that because of envy they had delivered him up.
Car il savait bien que c'était par jalousie qu'ils avaient livré Jésus.
19 While he was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent to him, saying, “Have nothing to do with that righteous man, for I have suffered many things today in a dream because of him.”
Pendant qu'il siégeait à son tribunal, sa femme lui envoya dire: N'aie rien à faire avec ce Juste; car j'ai beaucoup souffert, aujourd'hui, en songe, à cause de lui.
20 Now the chief priests and the elders persuaded the multitudes to ask for Barabbas and destroy Jesus.
— Mais les principaux sacrificateurs et les anciens persuadèrent au peuple de demander Barabbas, et de faire périr Jésus.
21 But the governor answered them, “Which of the two do you want me to release to you?” They said, “Barabbas!”
Le gouverneur, prenant la parole, leur dit: Lequel des deux voulez-vous que je vous relâche? Ils répondirent: Barabbas!
22 Pilate said to them, “What then shall I do to Jesus who is called Christ?” They all said to him, “Let him be crucified!”
Pilate leur dit: Que ferai-je donc de Jésus, celui qu'on appelle Christ? Tous répondirent: Qu'il soit crucifié!
23 But the governor said, “Why? What evil has he done?” But they cried out exceedingly, saying, “Let him be crucified!”
Le gouverneur dit: Mais quel mal a-t-il fait? Ils criaient encore plus fort: Qu'il soit crucifié!
24 So when Pilate saw that nothing was being gained, but rather that a disturbance was starting, he took water and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, “I am innocent of the blood of this righteous person. You see to it.”
Pilate, voyant qu'il ne gagnait rien, mais que le tumulte augmentait, prit de l'eau et se lava les mains devant le peuple en disant: Je suis innocent du sang de cet homme; cela vous regarde.
25 All the people answered, “May his blood be on us and on our children!”
Et tout le peuple répondit: Que son sang retombe sur nous et sur nos enfants!
26 Then he released Barabbas to them, but Jesus he flogged and delivered to be crucified.
Alors il leur relâcha Barabbas. Quant à Jésus, après l'avoir fait battre de verges, il le leur livra pour qu'il fût crucifié.
27 Then the governor’s soldiers took Jesus into the Praetorium, and gathered the whole garrison together against him.
Les soldats du gouverneur emmenèrent Jésus dans le prétoire, et ils rassemblèrent autour de lui toute la cohorte.
28 They stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him.
Ils lui ôtèrent ses vêtements et le revêtirent d'un manteau d'écarlate.
29 They braided a crown of thorns and put it on his head, and a reed in his right hand; and they kneeled down before him and mocked him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!”
Puis, ils tressèrent une couronne d'épines, ils la lui mirent sur la tête, avec un roseau dans la main droite; et, fléchissant le genou devant lui, ils se moquaient de lui, en disant: Salut, roi des Juifs!
30 They spat on him, and took the reed and struck him on the head.
Ils crachaient sur lui, et, prenant le roseau, ils lui en donnaient des coups sur la tête.
31 When they had mocked him, they took the robe off him, and put his clothes on him, and led him away to crucify him.
Après s'être moqués de lui, ils lui ôtèrent le manteau et lui remirent ses vêtements; puis, ils l'emmenèrent pour le crucifier.
32 As they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name, and they compelled him to go with them, that he might carry his cross.
Comme ils sortaient, ils trouvèrent un homme de Cyrène, nommé Simon, et ils le contraignirent à porter la croix de Jésus.
33 When they came to a place called “Golgotha”, that is to say, “The place of a skull,”
Arrivés au lieu appelé Golgotha, — ce qui signifie «le lieu du Crâne, » —
34 they gave him sour wine to drink mixed with gall. When he had tasted it, he would not drink.
ils lui donnèrent à boire du vin mêlé de fiel; mais, quand il en eut goûté, il n'en voulut point boire.
35 When they had crucified him, they divided his clothing among them, casting lots,
Après l'avoir crucifié, ils se partagèrent ses vêtements en les tirant au sort.
36 and they sat and watched him there.
Et, s'étant assis, ils restaient là à le garder.
37 They set up over his head the accusation against him written, “THIS IS JESUS, THE KING OF THE JEWS.”
Au-dessus de sa tête, ils avaient placé un écriteau portant le motif de sa condamnation: Voici Jésus, le Roi des Juifs.
38 Then there were two robbers crucified with him, one on his right hand and one on the left.
En même temps, on crucifia avec lui deux brigands, l'un à sa droite et l'autre à sa gauche.
39 Those who passed by blasphemed him, wagging their heads
Ceux qui passaient par là l'outrageaient, hochant la tête
40 and saying, “You who destroy the temple and build it in three days, save yourself! If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross!”
et disant: Toi qui détruis le temple et qui le rebâtis en trois jours, sauve-toi toi-même, si tu es le Fils de Dieu, et descends de la croix!
41 Likewise the chief priests also mocking with the scribes, the Pharisees, and the elders, said,
De même aussi, les principaux sacrificateurs, avec les scribes et les anciens, disaient en se moquant:
42 “He saved others, but he cannot save himself. If he is the King of Israel, let him come down from the cross now, and we will believe in him.
Il en a sauvé d'autres; il ne peut se sauver lui-même! S'il est le roi d'Israël, qu'il descende maintenant de la croix, et nous croirons en lui.
43 He trusts in God. Let God deliver him now, if he wants him; for he said, ‘I am the Son of God.’”
Il se confie en Dieu; que Dieu le délivre maintenant, s'il l'aime; car il a dit: Je suis le Fils de Dieu.
44 The robbers also who were crucified with him cast on him the same reproach.
Et les brigands, crucifiés avec lui, lui adressaient les mêmes outrages.
45 Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour.
Depuis la sixième heure jusqu'à la neuvième, il y eut des ténèbres sur tout le pays.
46 About the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lima sabachthani?” That is, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”
Vers la neuvième heure, Jésus cria d'une voix forte: Éli, Éli, lamma sabachtani. c'est-à-dire: «Mon Dieu, mon Dieu, pourquoi m'as-tu abandonné?»
47 Some of them who stood there, when they heard it, said, “This man is calling Elijah.”
Quelques-uns de ceux qui étaient présents, l'ayant entendu, disaient: Il appelle Élie.
48 Immediately one of them ran and took a sponge, filled it with vinegar, put it on a reed, and gave him a drink.
Aussitôt l'un d'eux courut prendre une éponge, et, l'ayant remplie de vinaigre, il la mit au bout d'un roseau et lui donna à boire.
49 The rest said, “Let him be. Let’s see whether Elijah comes to save him.”
Mais les autres disaient: Laisse! Voyons si Élie viendra le délivrer.
50 Jesus cried again with a loud voice, and yielded up his spirit.
Et Jésus, ayant de nouveau jeté un grand cri, rendit l'esprit.
51 Behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from the top to the bottom. The earth quaked and the rocks were split.
Alors, voici que le voile du temple se déchira en deux, depuis le haut jusqu'en bas. La terre trembla, les rochers se fendirent,
52 The tombs were opened, and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised;
les tombeaux s'ouvrirent, et les corps de plusieurs saints qui étaient morts ressuscitèrent:
53 and coming out of the tombs after his resurrection, they entered into the holy city and appeared to many.
étant sortis de leurs tombeaux, ils entrèrent dans la ville sainte après sa résurrection, et ils apparurent à plusieurs personnes.
54 Now the centurion and those who were with him watching Jesus, when they saw the earthquake and the things that were done, were terrified, saying, “Truly this was the Son of God!”
Le centenier et ceux qui, avec lui, gardaient Jésus, ayant vu le tremblement de terre et tout ce qui était arrivé, furent fort effrayés, et ils dirent: Véritablement, celui-ci était le Fils de Dieu!
55 Many women were there watching from afar, who had followed Jesus from Galilee, serving him.
Or, il y avait là plusieurs femmes qui regardaient de loin: c'étaient celles qui avaient suivi Jésus depuis la Galilée, pour le servir.
56 Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of the sons of Zebedee.
De ce nombre étaient Marie-Madeleine et Marie, mère de Jacques et de Joses, et la mère des fils de Zébédée.
57 When evening had come, a rich man from Arimathaea named Joseph, who himself was also Jesus’ disciple, came.
Le soir étant venu, un homme riche, d'Arimathée, nommé Joseph, qui lui-même était disciple de Jésus,
58 This man went to Pilate and asked for Jesus’ body. Then Pilate commanded the body to be given up.
alla trouver Pilate et lui demanda le corps de Jésus; alors Pilate ordonna qu'on le lui remît.
59 Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a clean linen cloth
Joseph prit le corps, l'enveloppa dans un linceul blanc,
60 and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had cut out in the rock. Then he rolled a large stone against the door of the tomb, and departed.
et il le déposa dans un sépulcre neuf qu'il avait fait tailler dans le roc pour lui-même; puis, il roula une grande pierre à l'entrée du sépulcre et il s'en alla.
61 Mary Magdalene was there, and the other Mary, sitting opposite the tomb.
Or, Marie-Madeleine et l'autre Marie étaient là, assises en face du tombeau.
62 Now on the next day, which was the day after the Preparation Day, the chief priests and the Pharisees were gathered together to Pilate,
Le lendemain, — qui était le jour après la préparation —, les principaux sacrificateurs et les pharisiens se rendirent ensemble chez Pilate,
63 saying, “Sir, we remember what that deceiver said while he was still alive: ‘After three days I will rise again.’
et ils lui dirent: Seigneur, nous nous sommes souvenus que cet imposteur, quand il vivait encore, disait: Après trois jours, je ressusciterai.
64 Command therefore that the tomb be made secure until the third day, lest perhaps his disciples come at night and steal him away, and tell the people, ‘He is risen from the dead;’ and the last deception will be worse than the first.”
Ordonne donc que le tombeau soit gardé sûrement jusqu'au troisième jour, de peur que ses disciples ne viennent l'enlever et qu'ils ne disent au peuple: Il est ressuscité des morts. Cette dernière imposture serait pire que la première.
65 Pilate said to them, “You have a guard. Go, make it as secure as you can.”
Pilate leur dit: Vous avez une garde; allez, et gardez-le comme vous l'entendrez.
66 So they went with the guard and made the tomb secure, sealing the stone.
Ils s'en allèrent donc, et ils s'assurèrent du tombeau, en scellant la pierre et en y plaçant la garde.
