Leviticus 21
1 The LORD said to Moses, “Speak to the priests, the sons of Aaron, and say to them, ‘A priest shall not defile himself for the dead among his people,
L’Éternel dit à Moïse: "Parle aux pontifes, fils d’Aaron, et dis-leur: Nul ne doit se souiller par le cadavre d’un de ses concitoyens,
2 except for his relatives that are near to him: for his mother, for his father, for his son, for his daughter, for his brother,
si ce n’est pour ses parents les plus proches: pour sa mère ou son père, pour son fils ou sa fille, ou pour son frère;
3 and for his virgin sister who is near to him, who has had no husband; for her he may defile himself.
pour sa sœur aussi, si elle est vierge, habitant près de lui, et n’a pas encore appartenu à un homme, pour elle il peut se souiller.
4 He shall not defile himself, being a chief man among his people, to profane himself.
Il ne doit pas se rendre impur, lui qui est maître parmi les siens, de manière à s’avilir.
5 “‘They shall not shave their heads or shave off the corners of their beards or make any cuttings in their flesh.
ils ne feront point de tonsure à leur tête, ne raseront point l’extrémité de leur barbe, et ne pratiqueront point d’incision sur leur chair.
6 They shall be holy to their God, and not profane the name of their God, for they offer the offerings of the LORD made by fire, the bread of their God. Therefore they shall be holy.
Ils doivent rester saints pour leur Dieu, et ne pas profaner le nom de leur Dieu; car ce sont les sacrifices de l’Éternel, c’est le pain de leur Dieu qu’ils ont à offrir: ils doivent être saints.
7 “‘They shall not marry a woman who is a prostitute, or profane. A priest shall not marry a woman divorced from her husband; for he is holy to his God.
Une femme prostituée ou déshonorée, ils ne l’épouseront point; une femme répudiée par son mari, ils ne l’épouseront point: car le pontife est consacré à son Dieu.
8 Therefore you shall sanctify him, for he offers the bread of your God. He shall be holy to you, for I the LORD, who sanctify you, am holy.
Tiens-le pour saint, car c’est lui qui offre le pain de ton Dieu; qu’il soit saint pour toi, parce que je suis saint, moi l’Éternel, qui vous sanctifie.
9 “‘The daughter of any priest, if she profanes herself by playing the prostitute, she profanes her father. She shall be burned with fire.
Et si la fille de quelque pontife se déshonore par la prostitution, c’est son père qu’elle déshonore: elle périra par le feu.
10 “‘He who is the high priest among his brothers, upon whose head the anointing oil is poured, and who is consecrated to put on the garments, shall not let the hair of his head hang loose, or tear his clothes.
Quant au pontife supérieur à ses frères, sur la tête duquel aura coulé l’huile d’onction, et qu’on aura investi du droit de revêtir les insignes, il ne doit point découvrir sa tête ni déchirer ses vêtements;
11 He must not go in to any dead body, or defile himself for his father or for his mother.
il n’approchera d’aucun corps mort; pour son père même et pour sa mère il ne se souillera point;
12 He shall not go out of the sanctuary, nor profane the sanctuary of his God; for the crown of the anointing oil of his God is upon him. I am the LORD.
et il ne quittera point le sanctuaire, pour ne pas ravaler le sanctuaire de son Dieu, car il porte le sacre de l’huile d’onction de son Dieu: je suis l’Éternel.
13 “‘He shall take a wife in her virginity.
De plus, il devra épouser une femme qui soit vierge.
14 He shall not marry a widow, or one divorced, or a woman who has been defiled, or a prostitute. He shall take a virgin of his own people as a wife.
Une veuve, une femme répudiée ou déshonorée, une courtisane, il ne l’épousera point: il ne peut prendre pour femme qu’une vierge d’entre son peuple,
15 He shall not profane his offspring among his people, for I am the LORD who sanctifies him.’”
et ne doit point dégrader sa race au milieu de son peuple: je suis l’Éternel, qui l’ai consacré!"
16 The LORD spoke to Moses, saying,
L’Éternel parla à Moïse en ces termes:
17 “Say to Aaron, ‘None of your offspring throughout their generations who has a defect may approach to offer the bread of his God.
"Parle ainsi à Aaron: Quelqu’un de ta postérité, dans les âges futurs, qui serait atteint d’une infirmité, ne sera pas admis à offrir le pain de son Dieu.
18 For whatever man he is that has a defect, he shall not draw near: a blind man, or a lame, or he who has a flat nose, or any deformity,
Car quiconque a une infirmité ne saurait être admis: un individu aveugle ou boiteux, ayant le nez écrasé ou des organes inégaux;
19 or a man who has an injured foot, or an injured hand,
ou celui qui serait estropié, soit du pied, soit de la main;
20 or hunchbacked, or a dwarf, or one who has a defect in his eye, or an itching disease, or scabs, or who has damaged testicles.
ou un bossu, ou un nain; celui qui a une taie sur l’œil, la gale sèche ou humide, ou les testicules broyés.
21 No man of the offspring of Aaron the priest who has a defect shall come near to offer the offerings of the LORD made by fire. Since he has a defect, he shall not come near to offer the bread of his God.
Tout individu infirme, de la race d’Aaron le pontife, ne se présentera pas pour offrir les sacrifices de l’Éternel. Atteint d’une infirmité, il ne peut se présenter pour offrir le pain de son Dieu.
22 He shall eat the bread of his God, both of the most holy, and of the holy.
Le pain de son Dieu, provenant des offrandes très-saintes comme des offrandes saintes, il peut s’en nourrir;
23 He shall not come near to the veil, nor come near to the altar, because he has a defect; that he may not profane my sanctuaries, for I am the LORD who sanctifies them.’”
mais qu’il ne pénètre point jusqu’au voile, et qu’il n’approche point de l’autel, car il a une infirmité, et il ne doit point profaner mes choses saintes, car c’est moi, l’Éternel, qui les sanctifie."
24 So Moses spoke to Aaron, and to his sons, and to all the children of Israel.
Et Moïse le redit à Aaron et à ses fils, et à tous les enfants d’Israël.
