< Jonah 1 >

1 Now the LORD’s word came to Jonah the son of Amittai, saying,
Amittai chapa Jonah kommah Pathen thupeh ahung lhung in,
2 “Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and preach against it, for their wickedness has come up before me.”
Kipat dohin lang Ninevah kiti khopi lentaha khun gihna thu gaphongdoh tan ajeh chu amite’u gitlouna hi kamu chen tan ahi.
3 But Jonah rose up to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the LORD. He went down to Joppa, and found a ship going to Tarshish; so he paid its fare, and went down into it, to go with them to Tarshish from the presence of the LORD.
Ahinlah Jonah akipat dohin Pakaiya konin akihei mangin Joppa kongkai munlanga achen kong sunga alut in atou man apen Tarshish lam jonin akitoltan ahi.
4 But the LORD sent out a great wind on the sea, and there was a mighty storm on the sea, so that the ship was likely to break up.
Ahin Pakaiyin twikhanglen chunga chun huipi hattahin ahin nun sahin kong suhkeh theileu chun hui le go nasatahin ahin nuhtan ahi.
5 Then the mariners were afraid, and every man cried to his god. They threw the cargo that was in the ship into the sea to lighten the ship. But Jonah had gone down into the innermost parts of the ship and he was laying down, and was fast asleep.
Kong sepai ho chu thina khop hellin akichatauvin, lung lengvai pumin ama ama Pathen ngehnan ataovun, chuleh kong jankhaina ding chun kong sunga kon chun thil gehsa ho chu aseplha tauvin ahi. Ahinlah Jonah chu kong indan noinung penna akum lhan ana lummin kho helou khopin ana imu lhatan ahi.
6 So the ship master came to him, and said to him, “What do you mean, sleeper? Arise, call on your God! Maybe your God will notice us, so that we will not perish.”
Hichun kong sepai lamkai pa chun Jonah chu aga mudohin ajah a “A imupa ipi nangaito hitam thoudoh in na Pathen henga tauvin chutileh aman ithigam nadiuva konna hi eihuhdoh theidiu ahi” ati.
7 They all said to each other, “Come! Let’s cast lots, that we may know who is responsible for this evil that is on us.” So they cast lots, and the lot fell on Jonah.
Hitichun amaho akihouvun, khaije hiche vangsetna hi eiholah a koipen jeh hiding ham vang veuhite akitiuvin, vang avetauvin ahileh Jonah chunga chun achu tan ahi.
8 Then they asked him, “Tell us, please, for whose cause this evil is on us. What is your occupation? Where do you come from? What is your country? Of what people are you?”
Hichun amahon Jonah komma ipi jeh'a hitobang vangsetna hi ichunguva chu hitam? Nang koi nahim? Ipi na tong na him? Hoiya konna na hung ham? Koigam mi nahim? tin adong tauvin ahi.
9 He said to them, “I am a Hebrew, and I fear the LORD, the God of heaven, who has made the sea and the dry land.”
Jonah in adonbutin, keima Hebrew mi kahin, Leiset leh Twikhanglen semma van Pathen ging jinga um mi kahi ati.
10 Then the men were exceedingly afraid, and said to him, “What have you done?” For the men knew that he was fleeing from the presence of the LORD, because he had told them.
Jonah chun Pathen na konna hung jamdoha ahi chu a seidoh phat in amaho aha kichat behsehun, epi na bolkhel hitam atiuvin ahi.
11 Then they said to him, “What shall we do to you, that the sea may be calm to us?” For the sea grew more and more stormy.
Twikhanglen chu aha khoh cheh cheh phat chun amahon nanghi i-nalo uleng hiche Twikhanglen hi thip thei ding ham atiuvin ahi.
12 He said to them, “Take me up, and throw me into the sea. Then the sea will be calm for you; for I know that because of me this great storm is on you.”
Hichun aman amaho koma chun keima hi nei dom sangun lang Twikhanglen'a hin neiseplut leu chun hichi twipi kinong hi tang tante “Ajeh chu hiche twipi kinong hi keijeh ahi” ati.
13 Nevertheless the men rowed hard to get them back to the land; but they could not, for the sea grew more and more stormy against them.
Ahijeng vang'in amahon ajo kham chanun kong chu leigo langa toldoh tei ding agongun ahinlah Twikhanglen kinong chu akhoh cheh jotan,
14 Therefore they cried to the LORD, and said, “We beg you, LORD, we beg you, do not let us die for this man’s life, and do not lay on us innocent blood; for you, LORD, have done as it pleased you.”
Hijeh chun amaho Jonah Pathen komma chun ataovun “Vo Pakai nei lungset unlang hichi pa chonset jeh'in nei sumang hihun chuleh heche pan thina ato jeh'in keiho mo neipehihbeh un, O Pakai nangin hichi mipa jeh'a hi hitobang thilse hi nasohsah ah bouve ti kahe tauve” atiuvin ahi.
15 So they took up Jonah and threw him into the sea; and the sea ceased its raging.
Hichun kongtol hon Jonah chu aman’un aselhahuva ahileh Twikhanglen kinong hoisetah chu athipchet jeng tan ahi.
16 Then the men feared the LORD exceedingly; and they offered a sacrifice to the LORD and made vows.

17 The LORD prepared a huge fish to swallow up Jonah, and Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.
