John 5
1 After these things, there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
| כעבור זמן מה חזר ישוע לירושלים לרגל אחד החגים. |
2 Now in Jerusalem by the sheep gate, there is a pool, which is called in Hebrew, “Bethesda”, having five porches.
| ליד שער הצאן בירושלים הייתה ברכה שנקראת בעברית”בית־חסדא“, וסביבה חמישה רציפים. |
3 In these lay a great multitude of those who were sick, blind, lame, or paralyzed, waiting for the moving of the water;
| על רציפים אלה שכבו חולים רבים, עיוורים, פיסחים, משותקים וכדומה (כשהם מחכים שהמים יסערו, |
4 for an angel went down at certain times into the pool and stirred up the water. Whoever stepped in first after the stirring of the water was healed of whatever disease he had.
| כי מדי פעם ירד מלאך ה׳ אל הברכה והסעיר את המים, והחולה הראשון שנכנס אל המים לאחר מכן נרפא). |
5 A certain man was there who had been sick for thirty-eight years.
| בין החולים הרבים היה אדם שסבל ממחלתו במשך שלושים ושמונה שנים. |
6 When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he had been sick for a long time, he asked him, “Do you want to be made well?”
| ישוע הביט באיש ומיד ידע את משך מחלתו.”אתה רוצה להירפא?“שאל ישוע. |
7 The sick man answered him, “Sir, I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up, but while I am coming, another steps down before me.”
| ”איני יכול!“השיב האיש בייאוש.”אין מי שיעזור לי להיכנס למים בעת הסערה, ובזמן שאני מנסה להיכנס לברכה בכוחות עצמי, מישהו זריז ממני מקדים אותי ונכנס למים לפני.“ |
8 Jesus said to him, “Arise, take up your mat, and walk.”
| ”קום, קפל את האלונקה שלך והתהלך!“פקד ישוע. |
9 Immediately, the man was made well, and took up his mat and walked. Now that day was a Sabbath.
| האיש נרפא מיד, עמד על רגליו, קיפל את האלונקה והלך לדרכו. מאחר שהמעשה התרחש בשבת, |
10 So the Jews said to him who was cured, “It is the Sabbath. It is not lawful for you to carry the mat.”
| לא מצא הדבר חן בעיני היהודים.”אסור לך לשאת את האלונקה, כי שבת היום!“קראו לעבר הנרפא. |
11 He answered them, “He who made me well said to me, ‘Take up your mat and walk.’”
| ”האיש שריפא אותי פקד עלי לקפל את האלונקה וללכת“, ענה האיש. |
12 Then they asked him, “Who is the man who said to you, ‘Take up your mat and walk’?”
| ”מיהו האיש הזה?“שאלו. |
13 But he who was healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had withdrawn, a crowd being in the place.
| אך הנרפא לא יכול היה להשיב להם, כי הוא בעצמו לא ידע מי הוא כי בינתיים נעלם ישוע בקהל הרב שהיה במקום. |
14 Afterward Jesus found him in the temple and said to him, “Behold, you are made well. Sin no more, so that nothing worse happens to you.”
| מאוחר יותר פגש ישוע את הנרפא בבית־המקדש ואמר לו:”עתה, לאחר שהבראת, אל תמשיך לחטוא, פן יבוא עליך משהו יותר רע.“ |
15 The man went away, and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him well.
| האיש הלך מהר וסיפר ליהודים כי ישוע הוא זה שריפא אותו. |
16 For this cause the Jews persecuted Jesus and sought to kill him, because he did these things on the Sabbath.
| ואז החלו מנהיגי היהודים לרדוף את ישוע, מפני שחילל את השבת. |
17 But Jesus answered them, “My Father is still working, so I am working, too.”
| אבל ישוע אמר להם:”אבי לא הפסיק לעבוד עד עתה, ואני נוהג כמוהו!“ |
18 For this cause therefore the Jews sought all the more to kill him, because he not only broke the Sabbath, but also called God his own Father, making himself equal with God.
| דבריו עוררו עוד יותר את חמת מנהיגי היהודים, והם רצו להרגו לא רק על שום שחילל את השבת, אלא גם על שקרא לאלוהים”אביו“, ובכך השווה את עצמו לאלוהים. |
19 Jesus therefore answered them, “Most certainly, I tell you, the Son can do nothing of himself, but what he sees the Father doing. For whatever things he does, these the Son also does likewise.
| ”הבן אינו יכול לעשות דבר בעצמו, “אמר ישוע,”הוא עושה רק מה שראה את אביו עושה, ובאותה דרך. |
20 For the Father has affection for the Son, and shows him all things that he himself does. He will show him greater works than these, that you may marvel.
| כי האב אוהב את בנו ומלמד אותו את כל מעשיו, ואפילו מלמדו לעשות מעשים גדולים יותר מריפוי האיש הזה. אתם יודעים מדוע? כדי שתתפלאו ותשתוממו! |
21 For as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son also gives life to whom he desires.
| הבן אף יקים מהמתים את מי שירצה, ממש כפי שעושה האב. |
22 For the Father judges no one, but he has given all judgment to the Son,
| האב לא ישפוט איש – הוא נתן לבנו את סמכות המשפט, כדי שכולם יכבדו את הבן כפי שהם מכבדים את האב. |
23 that all may honor the Son, even as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him.
| מי שאינו מכבד את הבן אינו מכבד גם את האב אשר שלח אותו. |
24 "Most certainly I tell you, he who hears my word and believes him who sent me has consummate (aiōnios g166) life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.
| ”אני מבטיח לכם שכל השומע את דברי ומאמין באלוהים אשר שלח אותי, יחיה חיי נצח ולא יישפט על חטאיו לעולם, משום שהוא כבר עבר מהמוות לחיים. (aiōnios g166) |
25 Most certainly I tell you, the hour comes, and now is, when the dead will hear the Son of God’s voice; and those who hear will live.
| אני מבטיח לכם, יגיע הזמן, ולמעשה הוא כבר הגיע, שהמתים ישמעו את קולו של בן־האלוהים – וכל השומעים יחיו. |
26 For as the Father has life in himself, even so he gave to the Son also to have life in himself.
| כשם שלאב עצמו יש כוח המעניק חיים, כך גם לבן יש אותו כוח, שהוא מתנת האב. |
27 He also gave him authority to execute judgment, because he is a son of man.
| כבן־האדם יש לו זכות וסמכות לשפוט את חטאיהם של כל בני־האדם. |
28 Do not marvel at this, for the hour comes in which all who are in the tombs will hear his voice
| אל תתפלאו על כך, כי יבוא הזמן שכל המתים ישמעו בקבריהם את קולו של בן האלוהים, |
29 and will come out; those who have done good, to the resurrection of life; and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of judgment.
| והם יקומו מקבריהם – עושי הטוב לחיי נצח, ועושי הרע למשפט. |
30 I can of myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge; and my judgment is righteous, because I do not seek my own will, but the will of my Father who sent me.
| ”איני שופט איש לפני התייעצות עם אבי; אני שופט רק לפי מה שהוא אומר לי. משפטי ישר וצודק, כי איני מבקש את טובת עצמי, אלא את רצון אבי שבשמים אשר שלחני. |
31 “If I testify about myself, my witness is not valid.
| ”אם אני מעיד על עצמי, תאמרו שעדותי אינה מהימנה. |
32 It is another who testifies about me. I know that the testimony which he testifies about me is true.
| אולם מישהו אחר מעיד עלי – יוחנן המטביל, ואני יודע שאפשר לסמוך על דבריו. |
33 You have sent to John, and he has testified to the truth.
| אתם שלחתם את אנשיכם אל יוחנן כדי להקשיב לדבריו, ויוחנן אמר את האמת. |
34 But the testimony which I receive is not from man. However, I say these things that you may be saved.
| אל תחשבו שאני זקוק לעדות בני־אדם; אני מספר לכם כל זאת רק כדי שתאמינו ותיוושעו. |
35 He was the burning and shining lamp, and you were willing to rejoice for a while in his light.
| ”יוחנן הפיץ אור כנר דולק כדי להאיר לכם את הדרך, ולזמן קצר אף שמחתם להתענג על האור הזה. |
36 But the testimony which I have is greater than that of John; for the works which the Father gave me to accomplish, the very works that I do, testify about me, that the Father has sent me.
| ברם יש לי עדות גדולה יותר מעדותו של יוחנן: המעשים שאני עושה. אלוהים אבי הטיל עלי לעשות את המעשים האלה, והם מוכיחים שהוא שלח אותי. |
37 The Father himself, who sent me, has testified about me. You have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his form.
| האב עצמו מעיד עלי, למרות שמעולם לא שמעתם את קולו, ואת מראהו לא ראיתם. |
38 You do not have his word living in you, because you do not believe him whom he sent.
| אולם דברו אינו שוכן בכם כלל, כי אתם מסרבים להאמין שאני שליחו. |
39 "You search the Scriptures, because you think that in them you have consummate (aiōnios g166) life; and these are they which testify about me.
| ”אתם דורשים בכתובים מתוך תקווה למצוא בהם חיי נצח, אך הכתובים מצביעים עלי! (aiōnios g166) |
40 Yet you will not come to me, that you may have life.
| למרות זאת אינכם רוצים לבוא אלי כדי שאעניק לכם חיי נצח. |
41 I do not receive glory from men.
| ”איני לוקח כבוד ושבחים מבני־אדם ואיני דואג לדעתכם עלי, |
42 But I know you, that you do not have God’s love in yourselves.
| אבל אני רוצה לומר לכם שאינכם אוהבים את אלוהים. |
43 I have come in my Father’s name, and you do not receive me. If another comes in his own name, you will receive him.
| אני באתי בשם אבי ולא קיבלתם אותי; אך אם יבוא מישהו אחר בשם עצמו, כן תקבלו אותו. |
44 How can you believe, who receive glory from one another, and you do not seek the glory that comes from the only God?
| אין פלא שאינכם מאמינים, שכן אתם מבקשים כבוד איש מרעהו, וכלל אינכם דואגים לכבוד שחולק אלוהים. |
45 “Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father. There is one who accuses you, even Moses, on whom you have set your hope.
| ”אל תחשבו שאטען עליכם לפני אבי. משה רבנו – שבו אתם מאמינים – הוא הטוען עליכם! |
46 For if you believed Moses, you would believe me; for he wrote about me.
| אילו האמנתם למשה הייתם מאמינים גם לי, שהרי הוא כתב עלי. |
47 But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe my words?”
| ואם אינכם מאמינים למה שכתב משה, איני מתפלא שאינכם מאמינים לדברי.“ |
