John 14
1 “Do not let your heart be troubled. Believe in God. Believe also in me.
Que votre cœur ne se trouble point. Vous croyez en Dieu, croyez aussi en moi.
2 In my Father’s house are many homes. If it were not so, I would have told you. I am going to prepare a place for you.
Il y a beaucoup de demeures dans la maison de mon Père; sinon, je vous l’aurais dit, car je vais vous préparer un lieu.
3 If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will receive you to myself; that where I am, you may be there also.
Et quand je m’en serai allé, et que je vous aurai préparé un lieu, je reviendrai, et je vous prendrai avec moi, afin que là où je suis, vous soyez aussi.
4 You know where I go, and you know the way.”
Or où moi je vais, vous le savez, et vous en savez la voie.
5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?”
Thomas lui dit: Seigneur, nous ne savons où vous allez; et comment pouvons-nous en savoir la voie?
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me.
Jésus lui répondit: Moi je suis la voie, la vérité et la vie. Personne ne vient à mon Père que par moi.
7 If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on, you know him and have seen him.”
Si vous m’eussiez connu, vous auriez donc connu mon Père; mais bientôt vous le connaîtrez et vous l’avez déjà vu.
8 Philip said to him, “Lord, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us.”
Philippe lui dit: Seigneur, montrez-nous votre Père, et il nous suffit.
9 Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you such a long time, and do you not know me, Philip? He who has seen me has seen the Father. How do you say, ‘Show us the Father’?
Jésus lui répondit: Il y a si longtemps que je suis avec vous, et vous ne me connaissez pas? Philippe, qui me voit, voit aussi mon Père. Comment dis-tu, toi: Montrez-nous votre Père?
10 Do not you believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? The words that I tell you, I speak not from myself; but the Father who lives in me does his works.
Ne croyez-vous point que je suis en mon Père, et que mon Père est en moi? Les paroles que je vous dis, je ne les dis pas de moi-même. Mais mon Père, qui demeure en moi, fait lui-même les œuvres.
11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me; or else believe me for the very works’ sake.
Ne croyez-vous point que je suis dans mon Père, et que mon Père est en moi?
12 Most certainly I tell you, he who believes in me, the works that I do, he will do also; and he will do greater works than these, because I am going to my Father.
Croyez-le au moins à cause de mes œuvres. En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, celui qui croit en moi fera aussi lui-même les œuvres que je fais, et il en fera de plus grandes encore, parce que je m’en vais à mon Père.
13 Whatever you will ask in my name, I will do it, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
Et quelque chose que vous demandiez à mon Père en mon nom, je le ferai; afin que le Père soit glorifié dans le Fils.
14 If you will ask anything in my name, I will do it.
Si vous me demandez quelque chose en mon nom, je le ferai.
15 If you love me, keep my commandments.
Si vous m’aimez, gardez mes commandements.
16 I will pray to the Father, and he will give you another Comforter, that he may be with you in this age (aiōn g165):
Et moi je prierai mon Père, et il vous donnera un autre Paraclet, pour qu’il demeure éternellement avec vous, (aiōn g165)
17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, for it does not see him and does not know him. You know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.
L’Esprit de vérité que le monde ne peut recevoir, parce qu’il ne le voit pas et ne le connaît pas; mais vous, vous le connaîtrez, parce qu’il demeurera au milieu de vous, et qu’il sera en vous.
18 I will not leave you orphans. I will come to you.
Je ne vous laisserai point orphelins; je viendrai à vous.
19 Yet a little while, and the world will see me no more; but you will see me. Because I live, you will live also.
Encore un peu de temps, et le monde ne me verra plus. Mais vous, vous me verrez, parce que je vis et vous vivrez aussi.
20 In that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you.
En ce jour-là, vous connaîtrez que je suis en mon Père, et vous en moi, et moi en vous.
21 One who has my commandments and keeps them, that person is one who loves me. One who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him, and will reveal myself to him.”
Celui qui a mes commandements et les garde, c’est celui-là qui m’aime. Or celui qui m’aime sera aimé de mon Père, et moi je l’aimerai, et je me manifesterai à lui.
22 Judas (not Iscariot) said to him, “Lord, what has happened that you are about to reveal yourself to us, and not to the world?”
Judas, non pas l’Iscariote, lui dit: Seigneur, d’où vient que vous vous manifesterez à nous, et non au monde?
23 Jesus answered him, “If a man loves me, he will keep my word. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.
Jésus répondit et lui dit: Si quelqu’un m’aime, il gardera ma parole, et mon Père l’aimera, et nous viendrons à lui, et nous ferons notre demeure en lui;
24 He who does not love me does not keep my words. The word which you hear is not mine, but the Father’s who sent me.
Celui qui ne m’aime point ne garde pas mes paroles. Or la parole que vous avez entendue n’est pas de moi, mais de mon Père, qui m’a envoyé.
25 “I have said these things to you while still living with you.
Je vous ai dit ces choses, demeurant encore avec vous.
26 But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things, and will remind you of all that I said to you.
Mais le Paraclet, l’Esprit-Saint que mon Père enverra en mon nom, vous enseignera toutes choses, et vous rappellera tout ce que je vous ai dit.
27 Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful.
Je vous laisse la paix, je vous donne ma paix; mais ce n’est pas comme le monde la donne que je vous la donne moi-même. Que votre cœur ne soit pas troublé, et qu’il ne s’effraie point.
28 You heard how I told you, ‘I am going away, and I will come back to you.’ If you loved me, you would have rejoiced because I said ‘I am going to my Father;’ for the Father is greater than I.
Vous avez entendu que je vous ai dit moi-même: Je m’en vais, et je reviens à vous. Si vous m’aimiez, vous vous réjouiriez de ce que je vais à mon Père, parce que mon Père est plus grand que moi.
29 Now I have told you before it happens so that when it happens, you may believe.
Et maintenant je vous le dis avant que cela arrive, afin que, quand ce sera arrivé, vous croyiez.
30 I will no more speak much with you, for the prince of the world comes, and he has nothing in me.
Je ne vous parlerai plus guère; car le prince de ce monde vient, et il n’a rien en moi.
31 But that the world may know that I love the Father, and as the Father commanded me, even so I do. Arise, let’s go from here.
Mais afin que le monde connaisse que j’aime mon Père, et que comme mon Père m’a commandé, ainsi je fais. Levez-vous, sortons d’ici.
