Jeremiah 51
1 The LORD says: “Behold, I will raise up against Babylon, and against those who dwell in Lebkamai, a destroying wind.
Assim diz o Senhor: Eis que levantarei um vento destruidor contra Babilônia, e contra os que habitam no coração dos que se levantam contra mim.
2 I will send to Babylon strangers, who will winnow her. They will empty her land; for in the day of trouble they will be against her all around.
E enviarei padejadores contra Babilônia, que a padejarão, e despejarão a sua terra; porque virão contra ela de redor no dia da calamidade.
3 Against him who bends, let the archer bend his bow, also against him who lifts himself up in his coat of mail. Do not spare her young men! Utterly destroy all her army!
O flecheiro arme o seu arco contra o que arma o seu arco, e contra o que presume da sua couraça; e não perdoeis a seus mancebos; destruí a todo o seu exército.
4 They will fall down slain in the land of the Chaldeans, and thrust through in her streets.
E os mortos caiam na terra dos caldeus, e os atravessados pelas ruas.
5 For Israel is not forsaken, nor Judah, by his God, by the LORD of Armies; though their land is full of guilt against the Holy One of Israel.
Porque Israel e Judá não foram deixados viúvas do seu Deus, do Senhor dos exércitos, ainda que a sua terra esteja cheia de culpas perante o Santo de Israel.
6 “Flee out of the middle of Babylon! Everyone save his own life! Do not be cut off in her iniquity, for it is the time of the LORD’s vengeance. He will render to her a recompense.
Fugi do meio de Babilônia, e livrai cada um a sua alma, e não vos destruais a vós na sua maldade: porque este é o tempo da vingança do Senhor, que lhe paga retribuição.
7 Babylon has been a golden cup in the LORD’s hand, who made all the earth drunk. The nations have drunk of her wine; therefore the nations have gone mad.
Era Babilônia um copo de ouro na mão do Senhor, que embriagava a toda a terra: do seu vinho beberam as nações; por isso as nações enlouqueceram.
8 Babylon has suddenly fallen and been destroyed! Wail for her! Take balm for her pain. Perhaps she may be healed.
Num momento caiu Babilônia, e ficou arruinada: uivai sobre ela, tomai bálsamo para a sua dor, porventura sarará.
9 “We would have healed Babylon, but she is not healed. Forsake her, and let’s each go into his own country; for her judgment reaches to heaven, and is lifted up even to the skies.
Saramos a Babilônia, porém ela não sarou; deixai-a, e vamo-nos cada um para a sua terra: porque o seu juízo chegou até ao céu, e se elevou até às mais altas nuvens
10 ‘The LORD has produced our righteousness. Come, and let’s declare in Zion the work of the LORD our God.’
O Senhor tirou a nossa justiça à luz: vinde e contemos em Sião a obra do Senhor, nosso Deus.
11 “Make the arrows sharp! Hold the shields firmly! The LORD has stirred up the spirit of the kings of the Medes, because his purpose is against Babylon, to destroy it; for it is the vengeance of the LORD, the vengeance of his temple.
Alimpai as flechas, preparai perfeitamente os escudos: o Senhor despertou o espírito dos reis da Media; porque o seu intento contra Babilônia é para a destruir; porque esta é a vingança do Senhor, a vingança do seu templo.
12 Set up a standard against the walls of Babylon! Make the watch strong! Set the watchmen, and prepare the ambushes; for the LORD has both purposed and done that which he spoke concerning the inhabitants of Babylon.
Arvorai bandeira sobre os muros de Babilônia, reforçai a guarda, colocai guardas, preparai as ciladas; porque como o Senhor intentou, assim fez o que tinha falado acerca dos moradores de Babilônia.
13 You who dwell on many waters, abundant in treasures, your end has come, the measure of your covetousness.
Tu que habitas sobre muitas águas, rica de tesouros, veio o teu fim, a medida da tua avareza.
14 The LORD of Armies has sworn by himself, saying, ‘Surely I will fill you with men, as with locusts, and they will lift up a shout against you.’
Jurou o Senhor dos exércitos por si mesmo, dizendo: Ainda que te enchi de homens, como de pulgão, contudo cantarão com júbilo sobre ti.
15 “He has made the earth by his power. He has established the world by his wisdom. By his understanding he has stretched out the heavens.
Aquele que fez a terra com o seu poder, e ordenou o mundo com a sua sabedoria, e estendeu os céus com o seu entendimento.
16 When he utters his voice, there is a roar of waters in the heavens, and he causes the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth. He makes lightning for the rain, and brings the wind out of his treasuries.
Dando ele a sua voz, grande estrondo de águas há nos céus, e faz subir os vapores desde o fim da terra: faz os relâmpagos com a chuva, e tira o vento dos seus tesouros.
17 “Every man has become stupid and without knowledge. Every goldsmith is disappointed by his image, for his molten images are falsehood, and there is no breath in them.
Embruteceu-se todo o homem, e não tem ciência; envergonhou-se todo o ourives de imagem de escultura; porque a sua imagem de fundição mentira é, e não há espírito nelas.
18 They are vanity, a work of delusion. In the time of their visitation, they will perish.
Vaidade são, obra de enganos: no tempo da sua visitação perecerão.
19 The portion of Jacob is not like these, for he formed all things, including the tribe of his inheritance. The LORD of Armies is his name.
Não é semelhante a estes a porção de Jacob; porque ele é o que formou tudo; e Israel é a tribo da sua herança: o Senhor dos exércitos é o seu nome.
20 “You are my battle ax and weapons of war. With you I will break the nations into pieces. With you I will destroy kingdoms.
Tu me és martelo e armas de guerra, e por ti despedaçarei nações, e por ti destruirei os reis;
21 With you I will break in pieces the horse and his rider.
E por ti despedaçarei o cavalo e o seu cavaleiro; e por ti despedaçarei o carro e o que vai montado nele;
22 With you I will break in pieces the chariot and him who rides therein. With you I will break in pieces man and woman. With you I will break in pieces the old man and the youth. With you I will break in pieces the young man and the virgin.
E por ti despedaçarei o homem e a mulher, e por ti despedaçarei o velho e o moço; e por ti despedaçarei o mancebo e a virgem;
23 With you I will break in pieces the shepherd and his flock. With you I will break in pieces the farmer and his yoke. With you I will break in pieces governors and deputies.
E por ti despedaçarei o pastor e o seu rebanho; e por ti despedaçarei o lavrador e a sua junta de bois; e por ti despedaçarei os capitães e os magistrados.
24 “I will render to Babylon and to all the inhabitants of Chaldea all their evil that they have done in Zion in your sight,” says the LORD.
Mas pagarei a Babilônia, e a todos os moradores da Chaldea, toda a sua maldade, que fizeram em Sião, aos vossos olhos, diz o Senhor.
25 “Behold, I am against you, destroying mountain,” says the LORD, “which destroys all the earth. I will stretch out my hand on you, roll you down from the rocks, and will make you a burned mountain.
Eis-me aqui contra ti, ó monte destruidor, diz o Senhor, que destrois toda a terra; e estenderei a minha mão contra ti, e te revolverei das rochas, e farei de ti um monte de queima.
26 They will not take a cornerstone from you, nor a stone for foundations; but you will be desolate forever,” says the LORD.
E não tomarão de ti pedra para esquina, nem pedra para fundamentos, porque te tornarás em assolações perpétuas, diz o Senhor.
27 “Set up a standard in the land! Blow the trumpet among the nations! Prepare the nations against her! Call together against her the kingdoms of Ararat, Minni, and Ashkenaz! Appoint a marshal against her! Cause the horses to come up as the swarming locusts!
Arvorai bandeira na terra, tocai a buzina entre as nações, santificai as nações contra ela, convocai contra ela os reinos de Ararat, Minni, e Asquenaz: ordenai contra ela um capitão, fazei subir cavalos, como pulgão arrepiado.
28 Prepare against her the nations, the kings of the Medes, its governors, and all its deputies, and all the land of their dominion!
Santificai contra ela as nações, os reis da Media, os seus capitães, e todos os seus magistrados, como também toda a terra do seu domínio.
29 The land trembles and is in pain; for the purposes of the LORD against Babylon stand, to make the land of Babylon a desolation, without inhabitant.
Então tremerá a terra, e doer-se-á, porque cada um dos desígnios do Senhor está firme contra Babilônia, para fazer da terra de Babilônia uma assolação, de sorte que não haja nela habitante.
30 The mighty men of Babylon have stopped fighting, they remain in their strongholds. Their might has failed. They have become as women. Her dwelling places are set on fire. Her bars are broken.
Os valentes de Babilônia cessaram de pelejar, ficaram-se nas fortalezas, desfaleceu a sua força tornaram-se como mulheres: incendiaram as suas moradas, quebrados foram os seus ferrolhos.
31 One runner will run to meet another, and one messenger to meet another, to show the king of Babylon that his city is taken on every quarter.
Um correio correrá ao encontro de outro correio, e um mensageiro ao encontro de outro mensageiro, para anunciar ao rei de Babilônia que a sua cidade está tomada desde um cabo até ao outro;
32 So the passages are seized. They have burned the reeds with fire. The men of war are frightened.”
E já os vaus estão tomados, e os canaviais queimados a fogo; e os homens de guerra ficaram assombrados.
33 For the LORD of Armies, the God of Israel says: “The daughter of Babylon is like a threshing floor at the time when it is trodden. Yet a little while, and the time of harvest comes for her.”
Porque assim diz o Senhor dos exércitos, o Deus de Israel: A filha de Babilônia é como uma eira, já é tempo de se debulhar: ainda um pouco, e o tempo da sega lhe virá.
34 “Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon has devoured me. He has crushed me. He has made me an empty vessel. He has, like a monster, swallowed me up. He has filled his mouth with my delicacies. He has cast me out.
Nabucodonozor, rei de Babilônia, me devorou, atropelou-me, fez de mim um vaso vazio, como dragão me tragou, encheu o seu ventre das minhas delicadezas; lançou-me fora.
35 May the violence done to me and to my flesh be on Babylon!” the inhabitant of Zion will say; and, “May my blood be on the inhabitants of Chaldea!” will Jerusalem say.
A violência que se me fez a mim e a minha carne venha sobre Babilônia, diga a moradora de Sião; e o meu sangue sobre os moradores da Chaldea, diga Jerusalém.
36 Therefore the LORD says: “Behold, I will plead your cause, and take vengeance for you. I will dry up her sea, and make her fountain dry.
Pelo que assim diz o Senhor: Eis que pleitearei o teu pleito, e te vingarei da vingança que se tomou de ti; e secarei o seu mar, e farei que se esgote o seu manancial.
37 Babylon will become heaps, a dwelling place for jackals, an astonishment, and a hissing, without inhabitant.
E Babilônia virá a ser uns montões, morada de dragões, espanto e assobio, sem que haja quem habite nela.
38 They will roar together like young lions. They will growl as lions’ cubs.
Juntamente rugirão como filhos dos leões: bramarão como cachorros de leões.
39 When they are inflamed, I will make their feast, and I will make them drunk, that they may rejoice, and sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake up,” says the LORD.
Estando eles já esquentados, lhes darei a sua bebida, e os embriagarei, para que andem saltando; porém dormirão um perpétuo sono, e não acordarão, diz o Senhor.
40 “I will bring them down like lambs to the slaughter, like rams with male goats.
Fa-los-ei descer como a cordeiros ao matadouro, como carneiros com os bodes.
41 “How Sheshach is taken! How the praise of the whole earth is seized! How Babylon has become a desolation among the nations!
Como foi presa Sesach, e tomada a glória de toda a terra! como tem sido Babilônia tornada em espanto entre as nações!
42 The sea has come up on Babylon. She is covered with the multitude of its waves.
O mar subiu sobre Babilônia; com a multidão das suas ondas se cobriu.
43 Her cities have become a desolation, a dry land, and a desert, a land in which no man dwells. No son of man passes by it.
Tornaram-se as suas cidades em assolação, terra seca e deserta, terra em que ninguém habite, nem passe por ela filho de homem.
44 I will execute judgment on Bel in Babylon, and I will bring out of his mouth that which he has swallowed up. The nations will not flow any more to him. Yes, the wall of Babylon will fall.
E visitarei a Bel em Babilônia, e tirarei da sua boca o que tragou, e nunca mais concorrerão a ele as nações: também o muro de Babilônia caiu.
45 “My people, go away from the middle of her, and each of you save yourselves from the LORD’s fierce anger.
Saí do meio dela, ó povo meu, e livrai cada um a sua alma, por causa do ardor da ira do Senhor.
46 Do not let your heart faint. Do not fear for the news that will be heard in the land. For news will come one year, and after that in another year news will come, and violence in the land, ruler against ruler.
E para que porventura não se enterneça o vosso coração, e não temais pelo rumor que se ouvir na terra; porque virá num ano um rumor, e depois noutro ano um rumor; e haverá violência na terra, dominador sobre dominador.
47 Therefore behold, the days come that I will execute judgment on the engraved images of Babylon; and her whole land will be confounded. All her slain will fall in the middle of her.
Portanto, eis que veem dias, e visitarei as imagens de escultura de Babilônia, e toda a sua terra será envergonhada, e todos os seus traspassados cairão no meio dela.
48 Then the heavens and the earth, and all that is therein, will sing for joy over Babylon; for the destroyers will come to her from the north,” says the LORD.
E os céus e a terra, com tudo quanto neles há, jubilarão sobre Babilônia: porque do norte lhe virão os destruidores, diz o Senhor.
49 “As Babylon has caused the slain of Israel to fall, so the slain of all the land will fall at Babylon.
Como Babilônia serviu de queda aos traspassados de Israel, assim em Babilônia cairão os traspassados de toda a terra.
50 You who have escaped the sword, go! Do not stand still! Remember the LORD from afar, and let Jerusalem come into your mind.”
Vós, que escapastes da espada, ide-vos, não pareis; de longe lembrai-vos do Senhor, e Jerusalém suba sobre o vosso coração.
51 “We are confounded because we have heard reproach. Confusion has covered our faces, for strangers have come into the sanctuaries of the LORD’s house.”
Direis porém: Envergonhados estamos, porque ouvimos opróbrio; vergonha cobriu o nosso rosto, porquanto vieram estrangeiros sobre os santuários da casa do Senhor.
52 “Therefore behold, the days come,” says the LORD, “that I will execute judgment on her engraved images; and through all her land the wounded will groan.
Portanto, eis que veem dias, diz o Senhor, e visitarei as suas imagens de escultura; e gemerá o traspassado em toda a sua terra.
53 Though Babylon should mount up to the sky, and though she should fortify the height of her strength, yet destroyers will come to her from me,” says the LORD.
Ainda que Babilônia subisse aos céus, e ainda que fortificasse a altura da sua fortaleza, todavia de mim virão destruidores sobre ela, diz o Senhor.
54 “The sound of a cry comes from Babylon, and of great destruction from the land of the Chaldeans!
Voz de gritos se ouve de Babilônia, e grande quebrantamento da terra dos caldeus;
55 For the LORD lays Babylon waste, and destroys out of her the great voice! Their waves roar like many waters. The noise of their voice is uttered.
Porque o Senhor destrói a Babilônia, e fará perecer dela a sua grande voz: porque as suas ondas bramirão como muitas águas: dar-se-á o arroido da sua voz.
56 For the destroyer has come on her, even on Babylon. Her mighty men are taken. Their bows are broken in pieces, for the LORD is a God of retribution. He will surely repay.
Porque o destruidor vem sobre ela, sobre Babilônia, e os seus valentes serão presos, já estão quebrados os seus arcos: porque o Senhor, Deus das recompensas, certamente lho pagará.
57 I will make her princes, her wise men, her governors, her deputies, and her mighty men drunk. They will sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake up,” says the King, whose name is the LORD of Armies.
E embriagarei os seus príncipes, e os seus sábios, e os seus capitães, e os seus magistrados, e os seus valentes; e dormirão um sono perpétuo, e não acordarão, diz o Rei cujo nome é o Senhor dos exércitos.
58 The LORD of Armies says: “The wide walls of Babylon will be utterly overthrown. Her high gates will be burned with fire. The peoples will labor for vanity, and the nations for the fire; and they will be weary.”
Assim diz o Senhor dos exércitos: Os largos muros de Babilônia totalmente serão derribados, e as suas portas excelsas serão abrazadas pelo fogo; e trabalharão os povos em vão, e as nações para o fogo, e cançar-se-ão.
59 The word which Jeremiah the prophet commanded Seraiah the son of Neriah, the son of Mahseiah, when he went with Zedekiah the king of Judah to Babylon in the fourth year of his reign. Now Seraiah was chief quartermaster.
A palavra que mandou Jeremias, o profeta, a Seraias, filho de Nerias, filho de Maaseias, indo ele com Zedekias, rei de Judá, a Babilônia, no ano quarto do seu reinado; e Seraias era um príncipe pacífico.
60 Jeremiah wrote in a book all the evil that should come on Babylon, even all these words that are written concerning Babylon.
Escreveu pois Jeremias num livro todo o mal que havia de vir sobre Babilônia: todas estas palavras que estavam escritas contra Babilônia.
61 Jeremiah said to Seraiah, “When you come to Babylon, then see that you read all these words,
E disse Jeremias a Seraias: Em tu chegando a Babilônia, verás e lerás todas estas palavras.
62 and say, ‘LORD, you have spoken concerning this place, to cut it off, that no one will dwell in it, neither man nor animal, but that it will be desolate forever.’
E dirás: Senhor! tu falaste sobre este lugar, que o havias de desarreigar, até não ficar nele morador algum, desde o homem até ao animal, mas que se tornaria em perpétuas assolações.
63 It will be, when you have finished reading this book, that you shall bind a stone to it, and cast it into the middle of the Euphrates.
E será que, acabando tu de ler este livro, o atarás a uma pedra e o lançarás no meio do Euphrates.
64 Then you shall say, ‘Thus will Babylon sink, and will not rise again because of the evil that I will bring on her; and they will be weary.’” Thus far are the words of Jeremiah.
E dirás: Assim será afundada Babilônia, e não se levantará, por causa do mal que eu hei de trazer sobre ela, e se cançarão. Até aqui são as palavras de Jeremias.
