< Hosea 11 >

1 “When Israel was a child, then I loved him, and called my son out of Egypt.
“ʻI he kei tamasiʻi ʻa ʻIsileli, ne u ʻofa ki ai, pea ne u ui hoku foha mei ʻIsipite.
2 They called to them, so they went from them. They sacrificed to the Baals, and burned incense to engraved images.
‌ʻI heʻenau ui kiate kinautolu, pehē ne nau ʻalu meiate kinautolu: naʻa nau feilaulau kia Pealimi, pea nau tutu ʻae ʻakau namu kakala ki he ngaahi tamapua kuo tongitongi.
3 Yet I taught Ephraim to walk. I took them by their arms, but they did not know that I healed them.
Naʻaku akoʻi foki ʻa ʻIfalemi ke ʻalu, ʻi he puke ʻaki honau nima; ka naʻe ʻikai te nau ʻilo ko au naʻe fakamoʻui ʻakinautolu.
4 I drew them with cords of a man, with ties of love; and I was to them like those who lift up the yoke on their necks; and I bent down to him and I fed him.
Naʻaku toho ʻakinautolu ʻaki ʻae afo ʻae tangata, ʻaki ʻae noʻo ʻoe ʻofa: pea naʻaku hangē ko ia ʻoku toʻo ʻae nonoʻo mei honau ngutu, pea ne u tuku ʻae meʻakai ʻi honau ʻao.
5 “They will not return into the land of Egypt; but the Assyrian will be their king, because they refused to repent.
“ʻE ʻikai te ne toe liliu ki he fonua ʻo ʻIsipite, ka ʻe hoko ʻae ʻAsilia ko hono tuʻi, koeʻuhi naʻe ʻikai te nau loto ke liliu.
6 The sword will fall on their cities, and will destroy the bars of their gates, and will put an end to their plans.
Pea ʻe nofomaʻu ki hono ngaahi kolo ʻae heletā, pea te ne fakaʻosi hono ngaahi vaʻa, pea kai ia, koeʻuhi ko ʻenau fakakaukau ʻanautolu pe.
7 My people are determined to turn from me. Though they call to the Most High, he certainly will not exalt them.
Pea kuo pau pe hoku kakai ke fakaholomui meiate au: neongo ʻenau ui ʻakinautolu ki he Fungani Māʻolunga, naʻe ʻikai ha tokotaha te ne hakeakiʻi ia.
8 “How can I give you up, Ephraim? How can I hand you over, Israel? How can I make you like Admah? How can I make you like Zeboiim? My heart is turned within me, my compassion is aroused.
“ʻE fēfeeʻi ʻa ʻeku fakatukutukuʻi koe, ʻe ʻIfalemi? Te u fakahaofi fēfeeʻi koe, ʻe ʻIsileli? ʻE fēfeeʻi ʻeku ngaohi ko e ke hangē ko ʻAtima? Te u tuku koe fēfeeʻi ke hangē ko Sipoimi? Kuo liliu hoku loto ʻiate au, kuo tupu fakataha ʻa ʻeku fakatomala.
9 I will not execute the fierceness of my anger. I will not return to destroy Ephraim, for I am God, and not man—the Holy One among you. I will not come in wrath.
‌ʻE ʻikai te u fai ki hono kakaha ʻo hoku houhau, ʻe ʻikai te u tafoki ke fakaʻauha ʻa ʻIfalemi: pe ko e ʻOtua au, ka ʻoku ʻikai ko e tangata; ko e tokotaha māʻoniʻoni ʻoku ʻi homou lotolotonga: pea ʻe ʻikai teu hū ki he loto kolo.
10 They will walk after the LORD, who will roar like a lion; for he will roar, and the children will come trembling from the west.
Te nau muimui kia Sihova: te ne ngungulu hangē ko e laione; ʻi heʻene ngungulu ʻe tetetete ʻae fānau mei he lulunga.
11 They will come trembling like a bird out of Egypt, and like a dove out of the land of Assyria; and I will settle them in their houses,” says the LORD.
Te nau tetetete hangē ko e manupuna mei ʻIsipite, pea hangē ko e lupe mei he fonua ʻo ʻAsilia: pea te u tuku ʻakinautolu ʻi honau ngaahi fale,” ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova.
12 Ephraim surrounds me with falsehood, and the house of Israel with deceit. Judah still strays from God, and is unfaithful to the Holy One.
‌ʻOku takatakai ʻaki au ʻe ʻIfalemi ʻae loi, pea mo e fale ʻo ʻIsileli ʻaki ʻae kākā: ka ʻoku kei pule ʻa Siuta mo e ʻOtua, pea ʻoku ne angatonu mo e ngaahi kakai māʻoniʻoni.
