< Deuteronomy 8 >

1 You shall observe to do all the commandments which I command you today, that you may live, and multiply, and go in and possess the land which the LORD swore to your fathers.
All the commandments which I command thee this day shall ye observe to do, that ye may live, and multiply, and go in and possess the land which the LORD swore to your fathers.
2 You shall remember all the way which the LORD your God has led you these forty years in the wilderness, that he might humble you, to test you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep his commandments or not.
And thou shalt remember all the way which the LORD thy God hath led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, [and] to prove thee, to know what [was] in thy heart, whether thou wouldst keep his commandments, or not.
3 He humbled you, allowed you to be hungry, and fed you with manna, which you did not know, neither did your fathers know, that he might teach you that man does not live by bread only, but man lives by every word that proceeds out of the LORD’s mouth.
And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every [word] that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live.
4 Your clothing did not grow old on you, neither did your foot swell, these forty years.
Thy raiment hath not become old upon thee, neither hath thy foot swelled these forty years.
5 You shall consider in your heart that as a man disciplines his son, so the LORD your God disciplines you.
Thou shalt also consider in thy heart, that as a man chasteneth his son, [so] the LORD thy God chasteneth thee.
6 You shall keep the commandments of the LORD your God, to walk in his ways, and to fear him.
Therefore thou shalt keep the commandments of the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, and to fear him.
7 For the LORD your God brings you into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of springs, and underground water flowing into valleys and hills;
For the LORD thy God bringeth thee into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains, and depths that spring out of valleys and hills;
8 a land of wheat, barley, vines, fig trees, and pomegranates; a land of olive trees and honey;
A land of wheat, and barley, and vines, and fig-trees, and pomegranates, a land of olive-oil, and honey;
9 a land in which you shall eat bread without scarcity, you shall not lack anything in it; a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills you may dig copper.
A land in which thou shalt eat bread without scarceness, thou shalt not lack any [thing] in it, a land whose stones [are] iron, and out of whose hills thou mayest dig brass.
10 You shall eat and be full, and you shall bless the LORD your God for the good land which he has given you.
When thou hast eaten and art full, then thou shalt bless the LORD thy God for the good land which he hath given thee.
11 Beware lest you forget the LORD your God, in not keeping his commandments, his ordinances, and his statutes, which I command you today;
Beware that thou forget not the LORD thy God, in not keeping his commandments, and his judgments, and his statutes, which I command thee this day:
12 lest, when you have eaten and are full, and have built fine houses and lived in them;
Lest [when] thou hast eaten, and art full, and hast built goodly houses, and dwelt [in them];
13 and when your herds and your flocks multiply, and your silver and your gold is multiplied, and all that you have is multiplied;
And [when] thy herds and thy flocks multiply, and thy silver and thy gold are increased, and all that thou hast is increased;
14 then your heart might be lifted up, and you forget the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage;
Then thy heart shall be lifted up, and thou shalt forget the LORD thy God (who brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage; )
15 who led you through the great and terrible wilderness, with venomous snakes and scorpions, and thirsty ground where there was no water; who poured water for you out of the rock of flint;
Who led thee through that great and terrible wilderness, [in which were] fiery serpents, and scorpions, and drouth, where [there was] no water; who brought thee forth water out of the rock of flint;
16 who fed you in the wilderness with manna, which your fathers did not know, that he might humble you, and that he might prove you, to do you good at your latter end;
Who fed thee in the wilderness with manna, which thy fathers knew not, that he might humble thee, and that he might prove thee, to do thee good at thy latter end.
17 and lest you say in your heart, “My power and the might of my hand has gotten me this wealth.”
And thou shalt say in thy heart, My power and the might of my hand hath gotten me this wealth.
18 But you shall remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he swore to your fathers, as it is today.
But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for [it is] he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he swore to thy fathers, as [it is] this day.
19 It shall be, if you shall forget the LORD your God, and walk after other gods, and serve them and worship them, I testify against you today that you shall surely perish.
And it shall be, if thou shalt at all forget the LORD thy God, and walk after other gods, and serve them, and worship them, I testify against you this day that ye shall surely perish.
20 As the nations that the LORD makes to perish before you, so you shall perish, because you would not listen to the LORD your God’s voice.
As the nations which the LORD destroyeth before your face, so shall ye perish; because ye would not be obedient to the voice of the LORD your God.
