< Amos 5 >
1 Listen to this word which I take up for a lamentation over you, O house of Israel:
Fanongo ki he lea ni, ʻoku ou ʻai kiate kimoutolu, ʻi he tangilāulau, ʻe fale ʻo ʻIsileli.
2 “The virgin of Israel has fallen; She shall rise no more. She is cast down on her land; there is no one to raise her up.”
“Kuo hinga ʻae taʻahine ʻa ʻIsileli, ʻe ʻikai te ne toetuʻu; kuo liʻaki ia ʻi hono fonua; ʻoku ʻikai ha taha ke toe fokotuʻu ia.”
3 For the Lord GOD says: “The city that went out a thousand shall have a hundred left, and that which went out one hundred shall have ten left to the house of Israel.”
He ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova, ko e ʻOtua; “Ko e kolo naʻe ʻalu ai ʻae toko taha afe, ʻe toe pe ʻae toko teau, pea ko ia naʻe ʻalu ai ʻae toko teau, ʻe toe pe ʻae toko hongofulu, ki he fale ʻo ʻIsileli.
4 For the LORD says to the house of Israel: “Seek me, and you will live;
5 but do not seek Bethel, nor enter into Gilgal, and do not pass to Beersheba; for Gilgal shall surely go into captivity, and Bethel shall come to nothing.
Kaeʻoua naʻa kumi ʻa Peteli, pe hū ki Kilikali, pea ʻoua naʻa laka ki Peasipa: koeʻuhi ʻe ʻalu moʻoni ʻa Kilikali ke pōpula, pea ʻe hoko ʻa Peteli ko e meʻa noa pē.
6 Seek the LORD, and you will live, lest he break out like fire in the house of Joseph, and it devour, and there be no one to quench it in Bethel.
Kumi kia Sihova, pea te mou moʻui telia naʻa hā mai ia, hangē ko e afi ʻi he fale ʻo Siosefa, pea ne keina ia, kae ʻikai ha taha ʻi Peteli ke fuʻifuʻi ia.
7 You who turn justice to wormwood, and cast down righteousness to the earth!
Ko kimoutolu ʻoku liliu ʻae fakamaau ko e ʻakau kona, pea mou tuku ʻae angatonu ʻi he fonua,
8 Seek him who made the Pleiades and Orion, and turns the shadow of death into the morning, and makes the day dark with night; who calls for the waters of the sea, and pours them out on the surface of the earth, the LORD is his name,
9 who brings sudden destruction on the strong, so that destruction comes on the fortress.
ʻOku ne fakamālohi ʻae vetekina ki he mālohi, koeʻuhi ke tauʻi ʻe he vetekina ʻae kolo.
10 They hate him who reproves in the gate, and they abhor him who speaks blamelessly.
ʻOku nau fehiʻa kiate ia ʻoku fai ʻae valoki ʻi he matapā, pea ʻoku nau fākaliliʻa kiate ia ʻoku lea ʻi he angatonu.
11 Therefore, because you trample on the poor and take taxes from him of wheat, you have built houses of cut stone, but you will not dwell in them. You have planted pleasant vineyards, but you shall not drink their wine.
Koeʻuhi ko e meʻa ʻi hoʻomou malakiʻi ʻae kakai masiva, pea ʻoku mou toʻo meiate ia ʻae ngaahi kavenga uite: kuo mou langa ʻae ngaahi fale ʻaki ʻae maka kuo tā, ka ʻe ʻikai te mou nofo ai; kuo mou tō ʻae ngaahi ngoue vaine matamatalelei, ka ʻe ʻikai te mou inu uaine mei ai.
12 For I know how many are your offenses, and how great are your sins— you who afflict the just, who take a bribe, and who turn away the needy in the courts.
He ʻoku ou ʻilo hoʻomou ngaahi talangataʻa lahi, pea mo hoʻomou fungani angahala: ʻoku nau fakamamahiʻi ʻae angatonu, ʻoku nau maʻu tukungoue, pea ʻoku nau fakateketeke atu ʻae kakai masiva ʻi he matapā.
13 Therefore a prudent person keeps silent in such a time, for it is an evil time.
Ko ia ʻe longo ai ʻae fakapotopoto ʻi he kuonga ko ia; he ko e kuonga kovi.
14 Seek good, and not evil, that you may live; and so the LORD, the God of Armies, will be with you, as you say.
Kumi ʻae lelei, kae ʻikai ko e kovi, koeʻuhi ke mou moʻui: ko ia, ko Sihova ko e ʻOtua ʻoe ngaahi tokolahi, te ne ʻiate kimoutolu, ʻo hangē ko hoʻomou lea.
15 Hate evil, love good, and establish justice in the courts. It may be that the LORD, the God of Armies, will be gracious to the remnant of Joseph.”
Fehiʻa ki he kovi, pea ʻofa ki he lelei, pea fokotuʻumaʻu ʻae fakamaau ʻi he matapā; heiʻilo pe ʻe ʻaloʻofa ʻa Sihova, ko e ʻOtua ʻoe ngaahi kautau, ki he toenga ʻo Siosefa.”
16 Therefore the LORD, the God of Armies, the Lord, says: “Wailing will be in all the wide ways. They will say in all the streets, ‘Alas! Alas!’ They will call the farmer to mourning, and those who are skillful in lamentation to wailing.
Ko ia ko Sihova ko e ʻOtua ʻoe ngaahi kautau, ko e ʻEiki, ʻoku pehē, “ʻE ʻi ai ʻae tangi ʻi he ngaahi hala kotoa pē; pea te nau pehē ʻi he ngaahi hala motuʻa kotoa pē, ‘ʻOiauē! ʻOiauē!’ Pea te nau ui ʻae tangata ngoue ki he tangi, pea mo kinautolu ʻoku poto ʻi he tangilāulau ke fai ʻae tangi.
17 In all vineyards there will be wailing, for I will pass through the middle of you,” says the LORD.
Pea ʻe ʻi ai ʻae tangi ʻi he ngoue vaine kotoa pē: he te u laka mai ʻiate koe,” ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova.
18 “Woe to you who desire the day of the LORD! Why do you long for the day of the LORD? It is darkness, and not light.
“Malaʻia kiate kimoutolu ʻoku holi ki he ʻaho ʻo Sihova! He koeʻumaʻā ia kiate kimoutolu? Ko e ʻaho ʻo Sihova kuo poʻuli, kae ʻikai maama.
19 As if a man fled from a lion, and a bear met him; or he went into the house and leaned his hand on the wall, and a snake bit him.
Hangē ko e tangata ʻoku hola mei he laione, pea ʻoku ne fakafetaulaki mo ha pea; pe ko ha taha ne hū ki fale, pea ne faʻaki hono nima ki he holisi, ka naʻe ʻuusi ia ʻe ha ngata.
20 Will not the day of the LORD be darkness, and not light? Even very dark, and no brightness in it?
ʻIkai ʻe poʻuli ʻae ʻaho ʻo Sihova, pea ʻikai maama? ʻIo, ko e poʻuli ʻaupito, ka ʻe ʻikai ʻi ai ha maama siʻi ke ulo?
21 I hate, I despise your feasts, and I cannot stand your solemn assemblies.
“ʻOku ou fehiʻa, ʻoku ou fakaliliʻa ki homou ngaahi ʻaho kātoanga, pea ʻe ʻikai te u nanamu ki hoʻomou ngaahi fakataha mamafa.
22 Yes, though you offer me your burnt offerings and meal offerings, I will not accept them; neither will I regard the peace offerings of your fat animals.
Neongo ʻoku mou hifo ʻaki ʻae ngaahi feilaulau tutu mo e ngaahi feilaulau meʻakai, ʻe ʻikai te u maʻu ia: pea ʻe ʻikai te u tokangaʻi ʻae ngaahi feilaulau fakalelei ʻo hoʻomou fanga manu sino.
23 Take away from me the noise of your songs! I will not listen to the music of your harps.
Hiki ke mamaʻo ʻiate au ʻae longoaʻa ʻo hoʻomou hiva; he ʻe ʻikai te u fanongo ki he mālie ʻo hoʻomou ngaahi meʻa faiva.
24 But let justice roll on like rivers, and righteousness like a mighty stream.
25 “Did you bring to me sacrifices and offerings in the wilderness forty years, house of Israel?
“Kuo mou hifo ʻaki ʻae ngaahi feilaulau mo e ngaahi hifo kiate au, ʻi he taʻu ʻe fāngofulu ʻi he toafa, ʻe fale ʻo ʻIsileli?
26 You also carried the tent of your king and the shrine of your images, the star of your god, which you made for yourselves.
Ka kuo mou fua ʻae fale fehikitaki ʻo homou Moloke mo Kiuni, ko hoʻomou ongo tamapua, ko e fetuʻu ʻo homou ʻotua, ʻaia naʻa mou ngaohi moʻomoutolu.
27 Therefore I will cause you to go into captivity beyond Damascus,” says the LORD, whose name is the God of Armies.
Ko ia te u pule ke mou ʻalu pōpula kituʻa Tamasikusi:” ʻoku pehē ʻa Sihova, ʻaia ko hono huafa, ko e ʻOtua ʻoe ngaahi kautau.
