Amos 5
1 Listen to this word which I take up for a lamentation over you, O house of Israel:
Ouvi esta palavra, que levanto sobre vós uma lamentação, ó casa de Israel.
2 “The virgin of Israel has fallen; She shall rise no more. She is cast down on her land; there is no one to raise her up.”
A virgem de Israel caiu, nunca mais tornará a levantar-se: desamparada está na sua terra, não há quem a levante.
3 For the Lord GOD says: “The city that went out a thousand shall have a hundred left, and that which went out one hundred shall have ten left to the house of Israel.”
Porque assim diz o Senhor Jehovah: A cidade da qual saem mil conservará cem, e aquela da qual saem cem conservará dez à casa de Israel.
4 For the LORD says to the house of Israel: “Seek me, and you will live;
Porque assim diz o Senhor à casa de Israel: buscai-me, e vivei.
5 but do not seek Bethel, nor enter into Gilgal, and do not pass to Beersheba; for Gilgal shall surely go into captivity, and Bethel shall come to nothing.
Porém não busqueis a bethel, nem venhais a Gilgal, nem passeis a Berseba, porque Gilgal certamente será levado cativo, e bethel será desfeito em nada.
6 Seek the LORD, and you will live, lest he break out like fire in the house of Joseph, and it devour, and there be no one to quench it in Bethel.
Buscai ao Senhor, e vivei, para que não acommetta a casa de José como um fogo, e a consuma, e não haja em bethel quem o apague.
7 You who turn justice to wormwood, and cast down righteousness to the earth!
(Os que pervertem o juízo em alosna, e deitam na terra a justiça.)
8 Seek him who made the Pleiades and Orion, and turns the shadow of death into the morning, and makes the day dark with night; who calls for the waters of the sea, and pours them out on the surface of the earth, the LORD is his name,
O que faz o setestrello, e o orion, e torna a sombra da noite em manhã, e escurece o dia como a noite, que chama as águas do mar, e as derrama sobre a terra, o Senhor é o seu nome.
9 who brings sudden destruction on the strong, so that destruction comes on the fortress.
O que esforça o despojado contra o forte: assim que venha a assolação contra a fortaleza.
10 They hate him who reproves in the gate, and they abhor him who speaks blamelessly.
Na porta aborrecem o que os repreende, e abominam o que fala sinceramente.
11 Therefore, because you trample on the poor and take taxes from him of wheat, you have built houses of cut stone, but you will not dwell in them. You have planted pleasant vineyards, but you shall not drink their wine.
Portanto, visto que pizais o pobre, e dele tomais um cargo de trigo, edificastes casas de pedras lavradas, mas nelas não habitareis; vinhas desejáveis plantastes, mas não bebereis do seu vinho.
12 For I know how many are your offenses, and how great are your sins— you who afflict the just, who take a bribe, and who turn away the needy in the courts.
Porque sei que são muitas as vossas transgressões, e grossos os vossos pecados: afligem o justo, tomam resgate, e rejeitam os necessitados na porta.
13 Therefore a prudent person keeps silent in such a time, for it is an evil time.
Portanto, o prudente naquele tempo se calará, porque o tempo será mau.
14 Seek good, and not evil, that you may live; and so the LORD, the God of Armies, will be with you, as you say.
Buscai o bem, e não o mal, para que vivais: e assim o Senhor, o Deus dos exércitos, estará convosco, como dizeis.
15 Hate evil, love good, and establish justice in the courts. It may be that the LORD, the God of Armies, will be gracious to the remnant of Joseph.”
Aborrecei o mal, e amai o bem, e estabelecei o juízo na porta: porventura o Senhor, o Deus dos exércitos, terá piedade do resto de José.
16 Therefore the LORD, the God of Armies, the Lord, says: “Wailing will be in all the wide ways. They will say in all the streets, ‘Alas! Alas!’ They will call the farmer to mourning, and those who are skillful in lamentation to wailing.
Portanto, assim diz o Senhor Deus dos exércitos, o Senhor: Em todas as ruas haverá pranto, e em todos os bairros dirão: Ai! ai! E ao lavrador chamarão a choro, e ao pranto aos que souberem prantear.
17 In all vineyards there will be wailing, for I will pass through the middle of you,” says the LORD.
E em todas as vinhas haverá pranto; porque passarei pelo meio de ti, diz o Senhor.
18 “Woe to you who desire the day of the LORD! Why do you long for the day of the LORD? It is darkness, and not light.
Ai daqueles que desejam o dia do Senhor! para que pois vos será este dia do Senhor? trevas será e não luz.
19 As if a man fled from a lion, and a bear met him; or he went into the house and leaned his hand on the wall, and a snake bit him.
Como o que foge de diante do leão, e se encontra com ele o urso, ou como se entrasse numa casa, e a sua mão encostasse à parede, e fosse mordido de uma cobra.
20 Will not the day of the LORD be darkness, and not light? Even very dark, and no brightness in it?
Não será pois o dia do Senhor trevas e não luz? e escuridade, sem que haja resplandor?
21 I hate, I despise your feasts, and I cannot stand your solemn assemblies.
Aborreço, desprezo as vossas festas, e os vossos dias de proibição não me darão bom cheiro.
22 Yes, though you offer me your burnt offerings and meal offerings, I will not accept them; neither will I regard the peace offerings of your fat animals.
Porque ainda que me ofereceis holocaustos, como também as vossas ofertas de manjares, não me agrado delas: nem atentarei para as ofertas pacíficas de vossos animais gordos.
23 Take away from me the noise of your songs! I will not listen to the music of your harps.
Afasta de mim o estrépito dos teus cânticos; porque não ouvirei as salmodias dos teus instrumentos.
24 But let justice roll on like rivers, and righteousness like a mighty stream.
Corra porém o juízo como as águas, e a justiça como o ribeiro impetuoso.
25 “Did you bring to me sacrifices and offerings in the wilderness forty years, house of Israel?
Haveis-me porventura oferecido sacrifícios e ofertas no deserto por quarenta anos, ó casa de Israel?
26 You also carried the tent of your king and the shrine of your images, the star of your god, which you made for yourselves.
Antes levastes a tenda de vosso Moloch, e a estátua das vossas imagens, a estrela do vosso deus, que fizestes para vós mesmos.
27 Therefore I will cause you to go into captivity beyond Damascus,” says the LORD, whose name is the God of Armies.
Portanto vos levarei cativos, para além de Damasco, diz o Senhor, cujo nome é o Deus dos exércitos.
