Acts 10
1 Now there was a certain man in Caesarea, Cornelius by name, a centurion of what was called the Italian Regiment,
En Cesarea vivía un hombre llamado Cornelio, quien era un centurión romano del ejército italiano.
2 a devout man, and one who feared God with all his house, who gave gifts for the needy generously to the people, and always prayed to God.
Este era un hombre devoto que, junto con todos los que vivían en su casa, tenían reverencia por Dios. Este hombre daba a los pobres con generosidad, y oraba a Dios con regularidad.
3 At about the ninth hour of the day, he clearly saw in a vision an angel of God coming to him and saying to him, “Cornelius!”
Un día, cerca de las 3 p.m. Cornelio tuvo una visión en la que vio claramente a un ángel de Dios que venía hacia él y lo llamaba, diciendo: “¡Cornelio!”
4 He, fastening his eyes on him and being frightened, said, “What is it, Lord?” He said to him, “Your prayers and your gifts to the needy have gone up for a memorial before God.
Entonces Cornelio, asustado, lo miró y preguntó: “¿Qué quieres, Señor?” “Dios ha escuchado tus oraciones, y ha reconocido tu generosidad para con los pobres”, le dijo el ángel a Cornelio.
5 Now send men to Joppa, and get Simon, who is also called Peter.
“Ahora envía hombres a Jope, y trae a Simón, también llamado Pedro,
6 He is staying with a tanner named Simon, whose house is by the seaside.
el cual se está hospedando en la casa de Simón el curtidor, cuya casa está junto al mar”.
7 When the angel who spoke to him had departed, Cornelius called two of his household servants and a devout soldier of those who waited on him continually.
Y cuando el ángel se fue, Cornelio llamó a dos de sus siervos y a un soldado de su guardia personal, quien era un hombre devoto.
8 Having explained everything to them, he sent them to Joppa.
Después de haberles explicado todo lo que había sucedido, los envió a Jope.
9 Now on the next day as they were on their journey and got close to the city, Peter went up on the housetop to pray at about noon.
Al día siguiente, mientras ellos iban de camino y se aproximaban a la ciudad, Pedro subió a la azotea para orar. Era cerca del mediodía,
10 He became hungry and desired to eat, but while they were preparing, he fell into a trance.
y ya sentía hambre, y deseaba comer. Pero mientras aun preparaban la comida, Pedro entró en trance,
11 He saw heaven opened and a certain container descending to him, like a great sheet let down by four corners on the earth,
y vio el cielo abierto. También vio que algo descendía y era como una sábana grande que estaba sostenida por sus cuatro esquinas, y descendía hacia la tierra.
12 in which were all kinds of four-footed animals of the earth, wild animals, reptiles, and birds of the sky.
Adentro había todo tipo de animales, reptiles y aves.
13 A voice came to him, “Rise, Peter, kill and eat!”
Entonces oyó una voz que dijo: “¡Levántate, Pedro! ¡Mata y come!”
14 But Peter said, “Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten anything that is common or unclean.”
Pero Pedro respondió: “¡Por supuesto que no, Señor! Nunca he comido nada que sea inmundo e impuro”.
15 A voice came to him again the second time, “What God has cleansed, you must not call unclean.”
Entonces escuchó nuevamente la voz: “¡No llames impuro lo que Dios ha limpiado!”
16 This was done three times, and immediately the thing was received up into heaven.
Y esto sucedió tres veces, y entonces la sábana fue rápidamente llevada de nuevo al cielo.
17 Now while Peter was very perplexed in himself what the vision which he had seen might mean, behold, the men who were sent by Cornelius, having made inquiry for Simon’s house, stood before the gate,
Mientras Pedro aún estaba perturbado por saber qué significaba aquella visión que había tenido, los hombres enviados por Cornelio habían encontrado la casa de Simón y estaban en pie frente a la puerta.
18 and called and asked whether Simon, who was also called Peter, was lodging there.
Ellos llamaban, preguntando si Simón, también llamado Pedro, se hospedaba allí.
19 While Peter was pondering the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Behold, three men seek you.
Mientras Pedro aún reflexionaba sobre la visión, el Espíritu le dijo: “Mira, hay tres hombres buscándote.
20 But arise, get down, and go with them, doubting nothing; for I have sent them.”
Levántate, baja, y ve con ellos. No te preocupes en absoluto, porque yo los envié”.
21 Peter went down to the men, and said, “Behold, I am he whom you seek. Why have you come?”
Entonces Pedro descendió para encontrarse con los tres hombres. “Yo soy a quien buscan”, dijo. “¿Por qué están aquí?”
22 They said, “Cornelius, a centurion, a righteous man and one who fears God, and well spoken of by all the nation of the Jews, was directed by a holy angel to invite you to his house, and to listen to what you say.”
“Venimos de parte de Cornelio, un hombre bueno, devoto, que tiene temor de Dios y es respetado entre el pueblo judío”, respondieron. “Un ángel lo instruyó para que enviara a buscarte y llevarte hasta su casa para escuchar lo que tú tienes para decirle”.
23 So he called them in and provided a place to stay. On the next day Peter arose and went out with them, and some of the brothers from Joppa accompanied him.
Entonces Pedro los invitó a entrar y ellos se quedaron allí. Al día siguiente, Pedro se levantó y se fue con ellos. Y algunos de los hermanos de Jope también fueron con ellos.
24 On the next day they entered into Caesarea. Cornelius was waiting for them, having called together his relatives and his near friends.
Al otro día llegaron a Cesarea, donde los esperaba Cornelio junto a sus parientes y amigos cercanos, a quienes había reunido.
25 When Peter entered, Cornelius met him, fell down at his feet, and worshiped him.
Cuando Pedro entró a la casa, Cornelio salió a su encuentro y cayendo a sus pies, lo adoró.
26 But Peter raised him up, saying, “Stand up! I myself am also a man.”
Pero Pedro lo hizo retroceder, diciéndole: “¡Levántate! ¡Yo soy solo un hombre!”
27 As he talked with him, he went in and found many gathered together.
Entonces Pedro habló con Cornelio y luego siguieron hacia adentro, donde había muchas otras personas esperándolo.
28 He said to them, “You yourselves know how it is an unlawful thing for a man who is a Jew to join himself or come to one of another nation, but God has shown me that I should not call any man unholy or unclean.
Y Pedro les dijo: “Sin duda alguna, ustedes saben que no se le permite a un judío reunirse o visitar extranjeros. Pero Dios me ha mostrado que no me corresponde a mí llamar impuro o inmundo a ninguno.
29 Therefore I also came without complaint when I was sent for. I ask therefore, why did you send for me?”
Es por eso que vine sin ningún problema cuando enviaron a buscarme. Así que ahora quiero saber la razón por la cual me mandaron a buscar”.
30 Cornelius said, “Four days ago, I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth hour, I prayed in my house, and behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing
“Hace cuatro días, cerca de esta misma hora—tres de la tarde—yo estaba orando en mi casa”, explicó Cornelio. “Cuando de repente vi a un hombre en pie frente a mí, vestido con ropas que brillaban.
31 and said, ‘Cornelius, your prayer is heard, and your gifts to the needy are remembered in the sight of God.
Y me dijo: ‘Cornelio, tus oraciones han sido escuchadas, y Dios ha reconocido tu generosidad para con los pobres.
32 Send therefore to Joppa and summon Simon, who is also called Peter. He is staying in the house of a tanner named Simon, by the seaside. When he comes, he will speak to you.’
Envía a alguien hasta Jope y trae a Simón Pedro. Él se está hospedando en la casa de Simón, el curtidor, junto a la orilla del mar’.
33 Therefore I sent to you at once, and it was good of you to come. Now therefore we are all here present in the sight of God to hear all things that have been commanded you by God.”
Así que de inmediato envié a buscarte, y me complace que hayas venido. Por eso estamos todos aquí, reunidos delante de Dios, listos para escuchar todo lo que el Señor te ha dicho”.
34 Peter opened his mouth and said, “Truly I perceive that God does not show favoritism;
Entonces Pedro respondió: “Estoy plenamente convencido de que Dios no tiene favoritos.
35 but in every nation he who fears him and works righteousness is acceptable to him.
En toda nación, Dios recibe a aquellos que lo respetan y hacen lo recto.
36 The word which he sent to the children of Israel, preaching good news of peace by Jesus Christ—he is Lord of all—
Ustedes conocen el mensaje que Dios envió a Israel, compartiendo la buena noticia de paz que viene de Jesucristo, quien es Señor de todos.
37 you yourselves know what happened, which was proclaimed throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;
Ustedes saben que esta buena noticia fue predicada por Judea, comenzando en Galilea, siguiendo el llamado de Juan al bautismo.
38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.
Es la buena noticia sobre Jesús de Nazaret y cómo Dios lo ungió con el Espíritu Santo, con poder, y cómo anduvo por todas partes haciendo el bien, sanando a todos los que estaban bajo control del diablo, porque Dios estaba con él.
39 We are witnesses of everything he did both in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem; whom they also killed, hanging him on a tree.
“Nosotros podemos dar testimonio de todo lo que él hizo en Judea y en Jerusalén. Lo mataron, colgándolo en una cruz.
40 God raised him up the third day and gave him to be revealed,
Pero Dios lo levantó nuevamente a la vida en el tercer día, y lo hizo aparecer,
41 not to all the people, but to witnesses who were chosen before by God, to us, who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead.
no a todos, sino a los que son testigos elegidos por Dios, incluyéndonos a nosotros, quienes comimos y bebimos con él después de que se levantó de los muertos.
42 He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that this is he who is appointed by God as the Judge of the living and the dead.
Él nos dio la responsabilidad de contar públicamente esto a la gente, de testificar que él es el Escogido de Dios como Juez de los vivos y los muertos.
43 All the prophets testify about him, that through his name everyone who believes in him will receive remission of sins.”
Él es Aquél del cual hablaron todos los profetas, para que todo el que crea en él reciba perdón por medio de su nombre”.
44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell on all those who heard the word.
Mientras Pedro aún hablaba, el Espíritu Santo fue derramado sobre todos los que estaban ahí oyendo el mensaje.
45 They of the circumcision who believed were amazed, as many as came with Peter, because the gift of the Holy Spirit was also poured out on the Gentiles.
Entonces los creyentes judíos que habían venido con pedro estaban asombrados, porque el don del Espíritu Santo también había sido derramado sobre los extranjeros.
46 For they heard them speaking in other languages and magnifying God. Then Peter answered,
Y los oían hablando en lenguas, glorificando a Dios.
47 “Can anyone forbid these people from being baptized with water? They have received the Holy Spirit just like us.”
Entonces Pedro preguntó: “¿Impedirá alguien que estos sean bautizados en agua, siendo que han recibido el Espíritu Santo, igual que nosotros?”
48 He commanded them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked him to stay some days.
Entonces Pedro dio orden de que fueran bautizados en el nombre de Jesucristo. Entonces le pidieron que se quedara más tiempo con ellos.
