2 Samuel 21
1 There was a famine in the days of David for three years, year after year; and David sought the face of the LORD. The LORD said, “It is for Saul, and for his bloody house, because he put the Gibeonites to death.”
ദാവീദിന്റെ ഭരണകാലത്ത് മൂന്നുവർഷം തുടർച്ചയായി ക്ഷാമമുണ്ടായി. അപ്പോൾ ദാവീദ് യഹോവയോട് അരുളപ്പാടു ചോദിച്ചു. അപ്പോൾ “ശൗലും രക്തപാതകമുള്ള അവന്റെ ഭവനവുംകാരണം ഈ വിധം സംഭവിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. ശൗൽ ഗിബെയോന്യരെ കൊന്നൊടുക്കിയതിന്റെ ഫലമാണിത്,” എന്ന് യഹോവ അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.
2 The king called the Gibeonites and said to them (now the Gibeonites were not of the children of Israel, but of the remnant of the Amorites, and the children of Israel had sworn to them; and Saul sought to kill them in his zeal for the children of Israel and Judah);
രാജാവ് ഗിബെയോന്യരെ വിളിച്ചുവരുത്തി അവരുമായി സംസാരിച്ചു (ഗിബെയോന്യർ ഇക്കാലത്ത് ഇസ്രായേലിന്റെ ഒരു ഭാഗമായിരുന്നില്ല; അവർ അമോര്യരുടെ ശേഷിപ്പായിരുന്നു. അവരെ ഉപദ്രവിക്കാതെ വിട്ടുകൊള്ളാമെന്ന് ഇസ്രായേൽക്കാർ ശപഥംചെയ്തിരുന്നു. എന്നാൽ ഇസ്രായേലിനോടും യെഹൂദയോടുമുള്ള അതിരുകടന്ന താത്പര്യംമൂലം ശൗൽ അവരെ ഉന്മൂലനംചെയ്യാൻ ശ്രമിച്ചു).
3 and David said to the Gibeonites, “What should I do for you? And with what should I make atonement, that you may bless the LORD’s inheritance?”
ദാവീദ് ഗിബെയോന്യരോടു ചോദിച്ചു: “ഞാൻ നിങ്ങൾക്കുവേണ്ടി എന്തു ചെയ്തുതരണം? നിങ്ങൾ യഹോവയുടെ അവകാശമായ ഇസ്രായേലിനെ അനുഗ്രഹിക്കാൻ തക്കവണ്ണം ഞാൻ എന്തു പരിഹാരമാണു ചെയ്യേണ്ടത്?”
4 The Gibeonites said to him, “It is no matter of silver or gold between us and Saul or his house; neither is it for us to put any man to death in Israel.” He said, “I will do for you whatever you say.”
ഗിബെയോന്യർ അദ്ദേഹത്തോടു മറുപടി പറഞ്ഞു: “ശൗലിൽനിന്നാകട്ടെ, അവന്റെ കുടുംബത്തിൽനിന്നാകട്ടെ, വെള്ളിയോ സ്വർണമോ ചോദിക്കുന്നത് ഞങ്ങൾക്കു ന്യായമല്ല; ഇസ്രായേലിൽ ഏതെങ്കിലും ഒരുവനെ മരണത്തിനേൽപ്പിക്കുന്നതും ഞങ്ങൾക്ക് ഉചിതമല്ല.” “ഞാൻ നിങ്ങൾക്കുവേണ്ടി എന്തു ചെയ്തുതരണമെന്നാണു നിങ്ങൾ ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നത്?” എന്ന് ദാവീദ് വീണ്ടും ചോദിച്ചു.
5 They said to the king, “The man who consumed us and who plotted against us, that we should be destroyed from remaining in any of the borders of Israel,
അവർ രാജാവിനോടു മറുപടി പറഞ്ഞു: “ഞങ്ങൾ കൂട്ടമായി സംഹരിക്കപ്പെടുകയും ഇസ്രായേൽദേശത്തെങ്ങും ഞങ്ങൾക്കൊരു ഇടംകിട്ടാതെ പോകുകയും ചെയ്യത്തക്കവണ്ണം ഞങ്ങളെ നശിപ്പിക്കുകയും ഞങ്ങൾക്കെതിരേ ദുരാലോചന നടത്തുകയുംചെയ്ത ആ മനുഷ്യനുണ്ടല്ലോ!
6 let seven men of his sons be delivered to us, and we will hang them up to the LORD in Gibeah of Saul, the chosen of the LORD.” The king said, “I will give them.”
അയാളുടെ പിൻഗാമികളിൽ ഏഴു പുരുഷന്മാരെ ഞങ്ങൾക്കുതരിക. ഞങ്ങൾ അവരെക്കൊന്ന് യഹോവയുടെ വ്രതനായ ശൗലിന്റെ ഗിബെയയിൽ യഹോവയുടെമുമ്പാകെ തൂക്കിക്കളയും.” “ഞാൻ അവരെ നിങ്ങൾക്കു തരാം,” എന്നു രാജാവു മറുപടി പറഞ്ഞു.
7 But the king spared Mephibosheth the son of Jonathan the son of Saul, because of the LORD’s oath that was between them, between David and Jonathan the son of Saul.
യഹോവയുടെമുമ്പാകെ ദാവീദും ശൗലിന്റെ മകനായ യോനാഥാനുംതമ്മിൽ ചെയ്ത ഉടമ്പടിയനുസരിച്ച് രാജാവ് ശൗലിന്റെ മകനായ യോനാഥാന്റെ മകൻ മെഫീബോശെത്തിനെ ഒഴിവാക്കി.
8 But the king took the two sons of Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, whom she bore to Saul, Armoni and Mephibosheth; and the five sons of Merab the daughter of Saul, whom she bore to Adriel the son of Barzillai the Meholathite.
അവരോടൊപ്പം അയ്യാവിന്റെ മകളായ രിസ്പായിൽ ശൗലിനു ജനിച്ച രണ്ടു പുത്രന്മാരായ അർമോനിയെയും മെഫീബോശെത്തിനെയും അവരോടൊപ്പം ശൗലിന്റെ മകളായ മീഖൾ മെഹോലാത്യൻ ബർസില്ലായിയുടെ മകനായ അദ്രീയേലിന്നു പ്രസവിച്ച അഞ്ചു പുത്രന്മാരെയും രാജാവു ചേർത്തു.
9 He delivered them into the hands of the Gibeonites; and they hanged them on the mountain before the LORD, and all seven of them fell together. They were put to death in the days of harvest, in the first days, at the beginning of barley harvest.
ഈ ഏഴുപേരെ അദ്ദേഹം ഗിബെയോന്യർക്ക് ഏൽപ്പിച്ചുകൊടുത്തു. അവർ അവരെ കൊന്ന് യഹോവയുടെമുമ്പാകെ മലയിൽ തൂക്കിയിട്ടു. അങ്ങനെ അവർ ഏഴുപേരും ഒരുമിച്ചു കൊല്ലപ്പെട്ടു. യവക്കൊയ്ത്തിന്റെ ആദ്യദിവസങ്ങളിലാണ് അവർ വധിക്കപ്പെട്ടത്.
10 Rizpah the daughter of Aiah took sackcloth and spread it for herself on the rock, from the beginning of harvest until water poured on them from the sky. She allowed neither the birds of the sky to rest on them by day, nor the animals of the field by night.
അയ്യാവിന്റെ മകളായ രിസ്പാ ചാക്കുശീലയെടുത്തു പാറപ്പുറത്തു വിരിച്ച് തനിക്കു കിടക്കയാക്കി. കൊയ്ത്തിന്റെ തുടക്കംമുതൽ ആകാശത്തുനിന്ന് ആ ശവശരീരങ്ങളുടെമേൽ മഴചൊരിയുന്നതുവരെ പകൽ ആകാശത്തിലെ പറവകളോ രാത്രിയിൽ വന്യമൃഗങ്ങളോ ആ ശരീരങ്ങളെ തൊടാൻ അവൾ സമ്മതിച്ചില്ല.
11 David was told what Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, the concubine of Saul, had done.
ശൗലിന്റെ വെപ്പാട്ടിയായ അയ്യാവിന്റെ മകളായ രിസ്പാ ചെയ്തത് ദാവീദ് കേട്ടു.
12 So David went and took the bones of Saul and the bones of Jonathan his son from the men of Jabesh Gilead, who had stolen them from the street of Beth Shan, where the Philistines had hanged them in the day that the Philistines killed Saul in Gilboa;
അപ്പോൾ അദ്ദേഹം ചെന്ന് യാബേശ്-ഗിലെയാദിലെ പൗരന്മാരിൽനിന്നു ശൗലിന്റെയും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ മകനായ യോനാഥാന്റെയും അസ്ഥികൾ കൊണ്ടുവന്നു (ഫെലിസ്ത്യർ ഗിൽബോവാ മലയിൽവെച്ച് ശൗലിനെ വധിച്ചശേഷം അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെയും യോനാഥാന്റെയും മൃതശരീരങ്ങൾ ബേത്-ശയാനിൽ കൊണ്ടുചെന്ന് പൊതു മൈതാനത്തിൽ തൂക്കിയിരുന്നു. യബേശ് നിവാസികൾ അവയെ അവിടെനിന്നു രഹസ്യമായി കൊണ്ടുവന്നിരുന്നു).
13 and he brought up from there the bones of Saul and the bones of Jonathan his son. They also gathered the bones of those who were hanged.
അവിടെനിന്നു ദാവീദ് ശൗലിന്റെയും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ മകനായ യോനാഥാന്റെയും ഗിബെയയിൽവെച്ചു കൊന്നു തൂക്കപ്പെട്ടവരുടെയും അസ്ഥികളും ശേഖരിച്ചു.
14 They buried the bones of Saul and Jonathan his son in the country of Benjamin in Zela, in the tomb of Kish his father; and they performed all that the king commanded. After that, God answered prayer for the land.
ബെന്യാമീൻദേശത്ത് സേലയിൽ, ശൗലിന്റെ പിതാവായ കീശിന്റെ കല്ലറയിൽ, ശൗലിന്റെയും യോനാഥാന്റെയും അസ്ഥികൾ അവർ സംസ്കരിച്ചു. രാജാവു കൽപ്പിച്ചതെല്ലാം അവർ ചെയ്തു. അതിനുശേഷം ദേശത്തിനുവേണ്ടിയുള്ള പ്രാർഥനയ്ക്ക് ദൈവം ഉത്തരമരുളി.
15 The Philistines had war again with Israel; and David went down, and his servants with him, and fought against the Philistines. David grew faint;
ഫെലിസ്ത്യരും ഇസ്രായേല്യരുംതമ്മിൽ വീണ്ടും ഒരിക്കൽ യുദ്ധമുണ്ടായി. ദാവീദ് സൈന്യസമേതം ചെന്ന് അവരുമായി പോരാടി; എന്നാൽ അദ്ദേഹം തളർന്നുപോയി.
16 and Ishbibenob, who was of the sons of the giant, the weight of whose spear was three hundred shekels of bronze in weight, he being armed with a new sword, thought he would kill David.
അപ്പോൾ മുന്നൂറു ശേക്കേൽ തൂക്കമുള്ള വെങ്കലശൂലം ധരിച്ചവനും പുതിയ ഒരു വാൾ അരയ്ക്കു കെട്ടിയവനും രാഫായുടെ പിൻഗാമികളിൽ ഒരുവനുമായ യിശ്ബി-ബെനോബ് ദാവീദിനെ കൊല്ലുന്നതിന് അദ്ദേഹത്തോടടുത്തു.
17 But Abishai the son of Zeruiah helped him, and struck the Philistine and killed him. Then the men of David swore to him, saying, “Do not go out with us to battle any more, so that you do not quench the lamp of Israel.”
എന്നാൽ സെരൂയയുടെ മകനായ അബീശായി അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ രക്ഷയ്ക്ക് ഓടിയെത്തി. അദ്ദേഹം ആ ഫെലിസ്ത്യനെ വെട്ടിക്കൊന്നു. “ഇസ്രായേലിന്റെ വിളക്ക് പൊലിഞ്ഞുപോകാതിരിക്കാൻ, മേലിൽ അങ്ങു ഞങ്ങളോടൊപ്പം പോർക്കളത്തിലേക്കു വരരുത്,” എന്ന് ദാവീദിന്റെ പടയാളികൾ അന്ന് അദ്ദേഹത്തോടു ശപഥംചെയ്തുപറഞ്ഞു.
18 After this, there was again war with the Philistines at Gob. Then Sibbecai the Hushathite killed Saph, who was of the sons of the giant.
ഈ സംഭവത്തിനുശേഷം ഗോബിൽവെച്ച് ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുമായി മറ്റൊരു യുദ്ധമുണ്ടായി. ആ സമയത്ത് ഹൂശാത്യനായ സിബ്ബെഖായി രാഫായുടെ പിൻഗാമികളിൽ മല്ലനായ സഫിനെ വധിച്ചു.
19 There was again war with the Philistines at Gob, and Elhanan the son of Jaare-Oregim the Bethlehemite killed Goliath the Gittite’s brother, the staff of whose spear was like a weaver’s beam.
ഗോബിൽവെച്ചുതന്നെ ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുമായുണ്ടായ മറ്റൊരു യുദ്ധത്തിൽ ബേത്ലഹേമ്യനായ യാരെ-ഓരെഗീമിന്റെ മകൻ എൽഹാനാൻ ഗിത്യനായ ഗൊല്യാത്തിന്റെ സഹോദരനെ വധിച്ചു. നെയ്ത്തുകോൽപ്പിടിപോലെ തടിച്ച പിടിയോടുകൂടിയ ഒരു കുന്തമാണ് ആ ഫെലിസ്ത്യനുണ്ടായിരുന്നത്.
20 There was again war at Gath, where there was a man of great stature, who had six fingers on every hand and six toes on every foot, twenty-four in number, and he also was born to the giant.
ഗത്തിൽവെച്ചുനടന്ന മറ്റൊരു യുദ്ധത്തിൽ കൈകാലുകളിൽ ഓരോന്നിലും ആറു വിരൽവീതം മൊത്തം ഇരുപത്തിനാലു വിരലുള്ള ഒരു ഭീമാകാരനുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. അയാളും രാഫായുടെ പിൻഗാമികളിൽ ഒരാളായിരുന്നു.
21 When he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimei, David’s brother, killed him.
അയാൾ ഇസ്രായേലിനെ അധിക്ഷേപിച്ചപ്പോൾ, ദാവീദിന്റെ സഹോദരനായ ശിമെയിയുടെ മകൻ യോനാഥാൻ അയാളെ വധിച്ചു.
22 These four were born to the giant in Gath; and they fell by the hand of David and by the hand of his servants.
ഇവർ നാലുപേരും ഗത്തിലെ രാഫായുടെ പിൻഗാമികളായിരുന്നു. അവർ നാലും ദാവീദിന്റെയും അനുയായികളുടെയും കൈയിൽപ്പെട്ടു നാശമടഞ്ഞു.
