2 Kings 18
1 Now in the third year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, Hezekiah the son of Ahaz king of Judah began to reign.
És volt harmadik évében Hoséának, Éla fiának, Izraél királyának, király lett Chizkíja, Ácház fia, Jehúda királya.
2 He was twenty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Abi the daughter of Zechariah.
Huszonöt éves volt, mikor király lett és huszonkilenc évig uralkodott Jeruzsálemben; anyjának neve pedig Abí, Zakarja leánya.
3 He did that which was right in the LORD’s eyes, according to all that David his father had done.
És tette azt, a mi helyes az Örökkévaló szemeiben egészen a szerint, mint tette őse Dávid.
4 He removed the high places, broke the pillars, and cut down the Asherah. He also broke in pieces the bronze serpent that Moses had made, because in those days the children of Israel burned incense to it; and he called it Nehushtan.
Ő távolította el a magaslatokat, összetörte az oszlopokat és kivágta az asérát; és szétzúzta a rézkígyót, melyet készített Mózes – mert egészen ama napokig füstölögtettek neki Izraél fiai – és melyet Nechustánnak neveztek.
5 He trusted in the LORD, the God of Israel, so that after him was no one like him among all the kings of Judah, nor among them that were before him.
Az Örökkévalóban, Izraél Istenében bízott; ő utána pedig nem volt olyan, mint ő, mind a Jehúda királyai között, azok közt sem, kik előtte voltak.
6 For he joined with the LORD. He did not depart from following him, but kept his commandments, which the LORD commanded Moses.
Ragaszkodott az Örökkévalóhoz, nem tért el tőle, hanem megőrizte parancsolatjait, melyeket az Örökkévaló parancsolt Mózesnek.
7 The LORD was with him. Wherever he went, he prospered. He rebelled against the king of Assyria, and did not serve him.
Volt is vele az Örökkévaló, bármiért vonult ki, szerencsés volt; és fellázadt Assúr királya ellen és nem szolgálta.
8 He struck the Philistines to Gaza and its borders, from the tower of the watchmen to the fortified city.
Ő verte meg a filiszteusokat egészen Azzáig, meg annak határait, őrtoronytól erősített városig.
9 In the fourth year of King Hezekiah, which was the seventh year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, Shalmaneser king of Assyria came up against Samaria and besieged it.
Volt pedig Chizkíjáhú király negyedik évében, az hetedik éve Hóséának, Éla fiának, Izraél királyának, feljött Salmanéezer, Assúr királya Sómrón ellen és ostrom alá vette;
10 At the end of three years they took it. In the sixth year of Hezekiah, which was the ninth year of Hoshea king of Israel, Samaria was taken.
És bevette három év múltán; Chizkíja hatodik évében, az kilencedik éve Hóséának, Izraél királyának, vétetett be Sómrón.
11 The king of Assyria carried Israel away to Assyria, and put them in Halah, and on the Habor, the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes,
És számkivetette Assúr királya Izraélt Assúrba és Chaláchba és vitte őket a Chábórhoz, Gózán folyójához és Média városaiba;
12 because they did not obey the LORD their God’s voice, but transgressed his covenant, even all that Moses the servant of the LORD commanded, and would not hear it or do it.
mivelhogy nem hallgattak az Örökkévalónak, az ő Istenüknek szavára és megszegték szövetségét, mindazt, amit parancsolt Mózes, az Örökkévaló szolgája, sem nem hallgattak rá, sem nem tették.
13 Now in the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah, Sennacherib king of Assyria came up against all the fortified cities of Judah and took them.
Chizkíjáhú király tizennegyedik évében pedig fölment Szanchérib, Assúr királya, mind a Jehúda erősített városai ellen és elfoglalta azokat.
14 Hezekiah king of Judah sent to the king of Assyria at Lachish, saying, “I have offended you. Withdraw from me. That which you put on me, I will bear.” The king of Assyria appointed to Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold.
Erre küldött Chizkíja, Jehúda királya Assúr királyához Lákhísba, mondván: Vétkeztem, vonulj el tőlem, a mit kivetsz reám, viselem. És rávetett Assúr királya Chizkíjára, Jehúda királyára háromszáz kikkár ezüstöt és harminc kikkár aranyat.
15 Hezekiah gave him all the silver that was found in the LORD’s house and in the treasures of the king’s house.
És odaadta Chizkija mind az ezüstöt, a mi találtatott az Örökkévaló házában és a király házának kincstáraiban.
16 At that time, Hezekiah cut off the gold from the doors of the LORD’s temple, and from the pillars which Hezekiah king of Judah had overlaid, and gave it to the king of Assyria.
Abban az időben törte le Chizkíja az Örökkévaló templomának ajtóit és a pilléreket, melyeket beborított volt maga Chizkíja, Jehúda királya, és odaadta Assúr királyának.
17 The king of Assyria sent Tartan, Rabsaris, and Rabshakeh from Lachish to King Hezekiah with a great army to Jerusalem. They went up and came to Jerusalem. When they had come up, they came and stood by the conduit of the upper pool, which is in the highway of the fuller’s field.
Ekkor küldte Assúr királya Tartánt, Rab-Száríszt és Rabságét hatalmas sereggel Lákhísból Chizkíjáhú királyhoz Jeruzsálembe. Fölmentek tehát és érkeztek Jeruzsálembe; fölmentek és eljöttek és megálltak a felső tónak vízvezetékénél, mely a mosómező útján van.
18 When they had called to the king, Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, and Shebnah the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder came out to them.
És szólították a királyt; erre kiment hozzájuk Eljákim, Chizkíjáhú fia, a ki a ház fölött volt, meg Sebna az író, és Jóách, Ászáf fia, a kancellár.
19 Rabshakeh said to them, “Say now to Hezekiah, ‘The great king, the king of Assyria, says, “What confidence is this in which you trust?
És szólt hozzájuk Rabsáké: Szóljatok csak Chizkíjáhúnak: így szól a nagy király, Assúr királya, micsoda bizalom az, mellyel bíztál?
20 You say (but they are but vain words), ‘There is counsel and strength for war.’ Now on whom do you trust, that you have rebelled against me?
Azt mondtad, csak szóbeszéd, hogy tanács és hatalom kell a háborúhoz! Most kiben bíztál, hogy föllázadtál ellenem?
21 Now, behold, you trust in the staff of this bruised reed, even in Egypt. If a man leans on it, it will go into his hand and pierce it. So is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who trust on him.
Most íme bíztad magad erre a törött nádpálcára, Egyiptomra, amelyre ha valaki támaszkodik, bemegy a tenyerébe és átfúrja azt! Ilyen Fáraó, Egyiptom királya mindazoknak, kik benne bíznak.
22 But if you tell me, ‘We trust in the LORD our God,’ is not that he whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah has taken away, and has said to Judah and to Jerusalem, ‘You shall worship before this altar in Jerusalem’?
De ha így szóltok hozzám: az Örökkévalóban, a mi Istenünkben bíztunk – hiszen ő az, akinek eltávolította Chizkíjáhu magaslatait és oltárait és azt mondta Jehúdának és Jeruzsálemnek: ezen oltár előtt boruljatok le Jeruzsálemben!
23 Now therefore, please give pledges to my master the king of Assyria, and I will give you two thousand horses if you are able on your part to set riders on them.
Most tehát állj csak fogadásba urammal, Assúr királyával: hadd adok neked kétezer lovat, vajon tudsz-e te lovasokat adni rájuk?
24 How then can you turn away the face of one captain of the least of my master’s servants, and put your trust on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?
Hogy vernél hát vissza csak egy helytartót is uramnak legkisebb szolgái közül? És te bíztad magadat Egyiptomra szekérhad és lovasok dolgában!
25 Have I now come up without the LORD against this place to destroy it? The LORD said to me, ‘Go up against this land, and destroy it.’”’”
Ám, vajon az Örökkévaló nélkül jöttem-e föl e hely ellen, hogy elpusztítsam? Az Örökkévaló mondta nekem: menj föl ez ország ellen és pusztítsd el!
26 Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, Shebnah, and Joah, said to Rabshakeh, “Please speak to your servants in the Syrian language, for we understand it. Do not speak with us in the Jews’ language, in the hearing of the people who are on the wall.”
Erre szólt Eljákim, Chilkíjáhú fia, meg Sebna és Jóách Rabsákéhoz: Beszélj, kérlek, szolgáidhoz arámul, mert mi értjük; s ne beszélj velünk zsidóul azon nép fülei hallatára, mely a falon van.
27 But Rabshakeh said to them, “Has my master sent me to your master and to you, to speak these words? Has not he sent me to the men who sit on the wall, to eat their own dung, and to drink their own urine with you?”
De szólt hozzájuk Rabsáké: Vajon uradhoz és tehozzád küldött-e engem uram, hogy elmondjam e szavakat? Nemde inkább azon emberekhez, kik a falon ülnek, hogy egyék a ganajukat és igyák a vizeletüket veletek együtt!
28 Then Rabshakeh stood and cried with a loud voice in the Jews’ language, and spoke, saying, “Hear the word of the great king, the king of Assyria.
Erre odaállt Rabsáké és fennhangon kiáltott zsidóul, beszélt és mondta: Halljátok a nagy királynak, Assúr királyának szavát!
29 The king says, ‘Do not let Hezekiah deceive you, for he will not be able to deliver you out of his hand.
Így szól a király: ne ámítson benneteket Chizkíjáhú, mert nem menthet meg titeket az ő kezéből.
30 Do not let Hezekiah make you trust in the LORD, saying, “The LORD will surely deliver us, and this city shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.”
És ne biztasson benneteket Chizkíjáhú az Örökkévalóval, mondván: meg fog menteni minket az Örökkévaló és nem adatik e város Assúr királyának kezébe.
31 Do not listen to Hezekiah.’ For the king of Assyria says, ‘Make your peace with me, and come out to me; and everyone of you eat from his own vine, and everyone from his own fig tree, and everyone drink water from his own cistern;
Ne hallgassatok Chizkíjáhúra! Mert így szól Assúr királya: csináljatok velem békét és jertek ki hozzám, hogy ehessétek ki-ki az ő szőlőtőjét és ki-ki az ő fügefáját és hogy ihassátok ki-ki kútja vizét.
32 until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of grain and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of olive trees and of honey, that you may live and not die. Do not listen to Hezekiah when he persuades you, saying, “The LORD will deliver us.”
A míg eljövök és elviszlek benneteket egy országba, mely olyan, mint a ti országotok: gabona és must országába, kenyér és szőlők országába, olajfa és méz országába, hogy éljetek és meg ne haljatok. Ne hallgassatok hát Chizkíjáhúra, midőn csábítgat titeket, mondván: az Örökkévaló majd megment bennünket.
33 Has any of the gods of the nations ever delivered his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?
Hát megmentették-e a nemzetek istenei ki-ki az ő országát Assúr királyának kezéből?
34 Where are the gods of Hamath and of Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim, of Hena, and Ivvah? Have they delivered Samaria out of my hand?
Hol vannak Chamát és Arpád istenei, hol Szefarvájim, Héná és Ivva istenei, hogy megmentették volna Sómrónt kezemből?
35 Who are they among all the gods of the countries, that have delivered their country out of my hand, that the LORD should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?’”
Kik azok az országok minden istenei közül, a kik megmentették az ő országukat kezemből, hogy az Örökkévaló megmentené Jeruzsálemet kezemből?
36 But the people stayed quiet, and answered him not a word; for the king’s commandment was, “Do not answer him.”
Hallgatott a nép és nem feleltek neki semmit, mert parancsa volt az a királynak, mondván: ne feleljetek neki!
37 Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, came with Shebna the scribe and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder to Hezekiah with their clothes torn, and told him Rabshakeh’s words.
Erre bement Eljákím, Chilkíja fia, aki a ház fölött volt, meg Sebna az író és Jóách, Ászáf fia, a kancellár Chizkíjáhúhoz megszaggatott ruhákkal és jelentették neki Rabsáké szavait.
