< 2 Chronicles 16 >
1 In the thirty-sixth year of Asa’s reign, Baasha king of Israel went up against Judah, and built Ramah, that he might not allow anyone to go out or come in to Asa king of Judah.
ʻI he taʻu ʻe tolungofulu ma ono ʻoe pule ʻa ʻAsa, naʻe haʻu ʻa Paʻasa ko e tuʻi ʻo ʻIsileli ke tauʻi ʻa Siuta, pea langa ʻe ia ʻa Lama, koeʻuhi ke ʻoua naʻa ʻalu kituaʻā ha niʻihi pe haʻu ki loto kia ʻAsa ko e tuʻi ʻo Siuta.
2 Then Asa brought out silver and gold out of the treasures of the LORD’s house and of the king’s house, and sent to Ben Hadad king of Syria, who lived at Damascus, saying,
Pea naʻe ʻomi kituʻa ʻe ʻAsa ʻae siliva mo e koula mei he ngaahi fale koloa ʻoe fale ʻo Sihova, pea mei he fale ʻoe tuʻi, pea ne ʻave ia kia Peni-Hatati ko e tuʻi ʻo Silia ʻaia naʻe nofo ʻi Tamasikusi, ʻo pehē,
3 “Let there be a treaty between me and you, as there was between my father and your father. Behold, I have sent you silver and gold. Go, break your treaty with Baasha king of Israel, that he may depart from me.”
“ʻOku ai ʻae lea ʻiate au mo koe, ʻo hangē ko ia naʻe ʻi heʻeku tamai mo hoʻo tamai: vakai ʻoku ou ʻatu ni ʻae siliva mo e koula: ke ke ʻalu, pea maumauʻi hoʻo alea papau mo Paʻasa ko e tuʻi ʻo ʻIsileli, koeʻuhi ke ʻalu ia ʻiate au.”
4 Ben Hadad listened to King Asa, and sent the captains of his armies against the cities of Israel; and they struck Ijon, Dan, Abel Maim, and all the storage cities of Naphtali.
5 When Baasha heard of it, he stopped building Ramah, and let his work cease.
Pea ʻi he fanongo ki ai ʻe Paʻasa, naʻa ne tuku ʻene langa ʻa Lama, pea tuku liʻaki pe ʻene ngāue.
6 Then Asa the king took all Judah, and they carried away the stones and timber of Ramah, with which Baasha had built; and he built Geba and Mizpah with them.
Pea naʻe ʻave ʻe ʻAsa ko e tuʻi ʻa Siuta kotoa pē mo ia: pea naʻa nau fetuku ʻo ʻave ʻae ngaahi maka kotoa pē ʻo Lama, pea mo e ngaahi ʻakau ʻi ai, ʻaia naʻe langa ʻaki ʻe Paʻasa: pea naʻa ne langa ʻaki ʻe ia ʻa Kepa mo Misipa.
7 At that time Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah, and said to him, “Because you have relied on the king of Syria, and have not relied on the LORD your God, therefore the army of the king of Syria has escaped out of your hand.
Pea ʻi he kuonga ko ia naʻe haʻu ai ʻa Hanani, ko e tangata kikite kia ʻAsa ko e tuʻi ʻo Siuta, ʻo ne pehē kiate ia, “Ko e meʻa ʻi hoʻo falala ki he tuʻi ʻo Silia, pea naʻe ʻikai te ke falala kia Sihova ko ho ʻOtua, ko ia kuo hao ʻo hola ʻae tau ʻae tuʻi ʻo Silia mei ho nima.
8 Were not the Ethiopians and the Lubim a huge army, with chariots and exceedingly many horsemen? Yet, because you relied on the LORD, he delivered them into your hand.
ʻIkai ko e fuʻu tau lahi ʻae kakai ʻItiopea mo e kakai Lupimi, mo e ngaahi saliote lahi mo e kau tangata heka hoosi? Ka ko e meʻa ʻi hoʻo falala kia Sihova, naʻa ne tuku mai ʻakinautolu ki ho nima.
9 For the LORD’s eyes run back and forth throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. You have done foolishly in this; for from now on you will have wars.”
He ʻoku lele fetoutou mo liliu ʻaki ʻae fofonga ʻo Sihova ʻi māmani kotoa pē, ke fakahā mālohi ʻa ʻene ʻafio ke kau mo kinautolu ʻoku tokanga totonu honau loto kiate ia. ʻI he meʻa ni kuo ke fai fakavalevale: pea mei he kuonga ko eni te ke moʻua koe ʻi he ngaahi tau.”
10 Then Asa was angry with the seer, and put him in the prison; for he was in a rage with him because of this thing. Asa oppressed some of the people at the same time.
Pea naʻe ʻita lahi ʻa ʻAsa ki he tangata kikite, pea ne tuku ia ki he fale fakapōpula: he naʻe lili ia kiate ia koeʻuhi ko e meʻa ni. Pea naʻe pule kakaha ʻa ʻAsa ki he kakai niʻihi ʻi he kuonga ko ia.
11 Behold, the acts of Asa, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.
Pea vakai, ko e ngaahi ngāue ʻa ʻAsa, ko e muʻaki mo e kimui, vakai, kuo tohi ia ʻi he tohi fakamatala ki he ngaahi tuʻi ʻo Siuta mo ʻIsileli.
12 In the thirty-ninth year of his reign, Asa was diseased in his feet. His disease was exceedingly great; yet in his disease he did not seek the LORD, but just the physicians.
Pea naʻe mahaki ʻa ʻAsa ʻi hono vaʻe, ʻi hono tolungofulu ma hiva taʻu ʻo ʻene pule, pea naʻe tupu ʻo lahi ʻaupito ʻene mahaki: ka ʻi heʻene mahaki naʻe ʻikai kumi ia kia Sihova, ka ki he kau faitoʻo.
13 Asa slept with his fathers, and died in the forty-first year of his reign.
Pea naʻe mohe ʻa ʻAsa mo ʻene ngaahi tamai, pea pekia ia ʻi hono fāngofulu ma taha taʻu ʻo ʻene pule.
14 They buried him in his own tomb, which he had dug out for himself in David’s city, and laid him in the bed which was filled with sweet odors and various kinds of spices prepared by the perfumers’ art; and they made a very great fire for him.
Pea naʻa nau fai hono putu ki hono fonualoto ʻoʻona, ʻaia naʻa ne ngaohi moʻona ʻi he Kolo ʻo Tevita, pea naʻe tuku ia ki he mohenga naʻe fakafonu ʻaki ʻae ngaahi meʻa namu kakala kehekehe naʻe teuʻi ʻe he kakai naʻe poto ʻi he ngāue ko ia: pea naʻa nau fai ʻae tutu lahi ʻaupito maʻana.
