1 Timothy 4
1 But the Spirit says expressly that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to seducing spirits and doctrines of demons,
Or l'Esprit dit expressément qu'aux derniers temps quelques-uns se révolteront de la foi, s'adonnant aux Esprits séducteurs, et aux doctrines des Démons.
2 through the hypocrisy of men who speak lies, branded in their own conscience as with a hot iron,
Enseignant des mensonges par hypocrisie, et ayant une conscience cautérisée;
3 forbidding marriage and commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.
Défendant de se marier, [commandant] de s'abstenir des viandes que Dieu a créées pour les fidèles, et pour ceux qui ont connu la vérité, afin d'en user avec des actions de grâces.
4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving.
Car toute créature de Dieu est bonne, et il n'y en a point qui soit à rejeter, étant prise avec action de grâces.
5 For it is sanctified through the word of God and prayer.
Parce qu'elle est sanctifiée par la parole de Dieu, et par la prière.
6 If you instruct the brothers of these things, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, nourished in the words of the faith and of the good doctrine which you have followed.
Si tu proposes ces choses aux frères, tu seras bon Ministre de Jésus-Christ, nourri dans les paroles de la foi et de la bonne doctrine que tu as soigneusement suivie.
7 But refuse profane and old wives’ fables. Exercise yourself toward godliness.
Mais rejette les fables profanes, et semblables aux récits des personnes dont l'Esprit est affaibli; et exerce-toi dans la piété.
8 For bodily exercise has some value, but godliness has value in all things, having the promise of the life which is now and of that which is to come.
Car l'exercice corporel est utile à peu de chose, mais la piété est utile à toutes choses, ayant les promesses de la vie présente, et de celle qui est à venir.
9 This saying is faithful and worthy of all acceptance.
C'est là une parole certaine, et digne d'être entièrement reçue.
10 For to this end we both labor and suffer reproach, because we have set our trust in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, especially of those who believe.
Car c'est aussi pour cela que nous travaillons, et que nous sommes en opprobre, vu que nous espérons au Dieu vivant, qui est le conservateur de tous les hommes, mais principalement des fidèles.
11 Command and teach these things.
Annonce ces choses, [et les] enseigne.
12 Let no man despise your youth; but be an example to those who believe, in word, in your way of life, in love, in spirit, in faith, and in purity.
Que personne ne méprise ta jeunesse; mais sois le modèle des fidèles en paroles, en conduite, en charité, en esprit, en foi, en pureté.
13 Until I come, pay attention to reading, to exhortation, and to teaching.
Sois attentif à la lecture, à l'exhortation, et à l'instruction, jusqu'à ce que je vienne.
14 Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy with the laying on of the hands of the elders.
Ne néglige point le don qui est en toi, et qui t'a été conféré suivant la prophétie, par l'imposition des mains de la compagnie des Anciens.
15 Be diligent in these things. Give yourself wholly to them, that your progress may be revealed to all.
Pratique ces choses, et y sois attentif, afin qu'il soit connu à tous que tu profites.
16 Pay attention to yourself and to your teaching. Continue in these things, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you.
Prends garde à toi, et à la doctrine, persévère en ces choses, car en faisant cela tu te sauveras, et ceux qui t'écoutent.
