1 Thessalonians 3
1 Therefore when we could not stand it any longer, we thought it good to be left behind at Athens alone,
Als wir nicht länger uns gedulden konnten, entschlossen wir uns, in Athen allein zurückzubleiben,
2 and sent Timothy, our brother and God’s servant in the Good News of Christ, to establish you and to comfort you concerning your faith,
und entsandten den Timotheus, unseren Bruder und Diener Gottes für das Evangelium Christi. Er sollte euch im Glauben stärken und ermuntern,
3 that no one would be moved by these afflictions. For you know that we are appointed to this task.
damit niemand im Glauben sich irremachen lasse in den gegenwärtigen Bedrängnissen. Ihr wißt: Dazu sind wir da.
4 For most certainly, when we were with you, we told you beforehand that we are to suffer affliction, even as it happened, and you know.
Schon damals, als wir bei euch waren, sagten wir euch zum voraus, daß wir Drangsale erdulden mußten. Ihr wißt jetzt, daß es auch so kam.
5 For this cause I also, when I could not stand it any longer, sent that I might know your faith, for fear that by any means the tempter had tempted you, and our labor would have been in vain.
Deshalb also, weil ich es länger nicht ertragen konnte, habe ich hingesandt, um zu erfahren, wie es um euren Glauben stehe, ob doch nicht etwa der Versucher euch in Versuchung geführt habe und unsere Arbeit vergeblich gewesen sei.
6 But Timothy has just now come to us from you, and brought us glad news of your faith and love, and that you have good memories of us always, longing to see us, even as we also long to see you.
Jetzt aber ist Timotheus von euch zu uns zurückgekehrt und hat von eurem Glauben und von eurer Liebe uns frohe Kunde gebracht und uns berichtet, daß ihr uns stets in gutem Andenken behaltet voll Sehnsucht, uns noch einmal zu sehen, gleichwie auch wir euch sehen möchten.
7 For this cause, brothers, we were comforted over you in all our distress and affliction through your faith.
Deswegen, Brüder, sind wir voll des Trostes euretwegen durch euren Glauben, all unserer Not und Drangsal zum Trotz.
8 For now we live, if you stand fast in the Lord.
Wir leben aber jetzt auf, wenn ihr im Herrn feststeht.
9 For what thanksgiving can we render again to God for you, for all the joy with which we rejoice for your sakes before our God,
Wie könnten wir Gott euretwegen genug für all die Freude danken, die wir von unserem Gott um euch empfinden?
10 night and day praying exceedingly that we may see your face and may perfect that which is lacking in your faith?
Wir beten Tag und Nacht mit übervollem Herzen um die Gnade, euch zu sehen und das zur Vollendung zu bringen, was noch an eurem Glauben fehlt.
11 Now may our God and Father himself, and our Lord Jesus Christ, direct our way to you.
Er selbst aber, unser Gott und Vater, und Jesus, unser Herr, lenke unsern Weg zu euch.
12 May the Lord make you to increase and abound in love toward one another and toward all men, even as we also do toward you,
Euch aber lasse der Herr zunehmen und überreich an Liebe werden zueinander und zu allen Menschen, so wie wir euch lieben.
13 to the end he may establish your hearts blameless in holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints.
Er möge eure Herzen stärken, daß sie untadelig und heilig vor Gott und unserem Vater seien bei der Ankunft Jesu, unseres Herrn mit allen seinen Heiligen.
