< Romans 2 >
1 Therefore, O man, thou are without excuse, every man who judges, for in what thou judge the other man, thou condemn thyself, for the man who judges is doing the same things.
Therefore, you are inexcusable, O man—everyone who is judging—for in that in which you judge the other, yourself you condemn, for the same things you practice who are judging,
2 And we know that the judgment of God is in accordance with truth against those who commit such things.
and we have known that the judgment of God is according to truth, on those practicing such things.
3 And think thou this, O man who judge those who do such things and do the same, that thou will escape the judgment of God?
And do you think this, O man, who are judging those who such things are practicing, and are doing them, that you will escape the judgment of God?
4 Or do thou despise the wealth of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God guides thee to repentance?
Or the riches of His goodness, and forbearance, and long-suffering, do you despise, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to conversion?
5 But according to thy hardness, and thy impenitent heart, thou store up wrath to thyself in the day of wrath, and revelation, and righteous judgment of God,
But according to your hardness and impenitent heart, you treasure up wrath to yourself in [the] day of wrath and of the revelation of the righteous judgment of God,
6 who will render to each man according to his works,
who will render to each according to his works;
7 to those who indeed seek by perseverance of good work, glory and esteem and immortality-eternal life- (aiōnios )
to those, indeed, who in continuance of a good work, seek glory, and honor, and incorruptibility—continuous life; (aiōnios )
8 but to those of self-interest, and who indeed disobey the truth but have confidence in unrighteousness-anger and wrath,
and to those contentious, and disobedient, indeed, to the truth, and obeying the unrighteousness—indignation and wrath,
9 pressure and restriction, upon every soul of man who produces evil, both of the Jew first, and of the Greek,
tribulation and distress, on every soul of man that is working the evil, both of Jew first, and of Greek;
10 but glory and esteem and peace to every man who works good, both to the Jew first, and to the Greek.
and glory, and honor, and peace, to everyone who is working the good, both to Jew first, and to Greek.
11 For there is no partiality with God.
For there is no favor by appearance with God,
12 For as many as have sinned without law will also be destroyed without law, and as many as have sinned in law will be judged by law.
for as many as sinned without law, will also perish without law, and as many as sinned in law, through law will be judged,
13 For the hearers of the law are not righteous with God, but the doers of the law will be made righteous.
for not the hearers of the Law [are] righteous before God, but the doers of the Law will be declared righteous.
14 For when the Gentiles who have no law do by nature the things of the law, these men, not having law, are a law to themselves.
For when nations that have no law, by nature may do the things of the Law, these not having a law—to themselves are a law,
15 Who show the work of the law written in their hearts, testifying of their conscience, and their thoughts amidst each other accusing or also defending them
who show the work of the Law written in their hearts, their conscience also witnessing with them, and between one another the thoughts accusing or else defending,
16 in a day when God judges the secrets of men by Jesus Christ, according to my good news.
in the day when God will judge the secrets of men, according to my good news, through Jesus Christ.
17 Behold, thou are called a Jew, and rely upon the law, and boast in God,
Behold, you are named a Jew, and rest on the Law, and boast in God,
18 and know his will, and approve the things that are significant, being instructed out of the law.
and know the will, and approve the distinctions, being instructed out of the Law,
19 And thou have confidence in thyself to be a guide of the blind, a light of those in darkness,
and have confidence that you yourself are a leader of blind ones, a light of those in darkness,
20 a corrector of the foolish, a teacher of the childlike, having in the law the essence of knowledge and truth,
a corrector of foolish ones, a teacher of babies, having the form of the knowledge and of the truth in the Law.
21 thou therefore who teach another, do thou not teach thyself? Thou who preach not to steal, do thou steal?
You, then, who are teaching another, do you not teach yourself?
22 Thou who say not to commit adultery, do thou commit adultery? Thou who abhor idols, do thou rob temples?
You who are preaching not to steal, do you steal? You who are saying not to commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who are abhorring the idols, do you rob temples?
23 Thou who boast in law, dishonor God by thy transgression of the law.
You who boast in the Law, through the transgression of the Law do you dishonor God?
24 For the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you, just as it is written.
For evil is spoken of the Name of God among the nations because of you, according as it has been written.
25 For circumcision is indeed beneficial if thou perform law, but if thou are a transgressor of law, thy circumcision has become uncircumcision.
For circumcision, indeed, profits, if you may practice law, but if you may be a transgressor of law, your circumcision has become uncircumcision.
26 If therefore a man of uncircumcision keeps the ordinances of the law, will not his uncircumcision be considered circumcision?
If, therefore, the uncircumcision may keep the righteousness of the Law, will not his uncircumcision be reckoned for circumcision?
27 And the man of natural uncircumcision who fulfills the law, will judge thee, a transgressor of law through a document and circumcision.
And the uncircumcision, by nature, fulfilling the Law, will judge you who, through letter and circumcision, [are] a transgressor of law.
28 For he is not a Jew in what is visible, nor is circumcision in what is visible, in flesh,
For he is not a Jew who is [so] outwardly, neither [is] circumcision that which is outward in flesh;
29 but he is a Jew in what is hidden, and circumcision is of the heart, in spirit not a document, whose praise is not from men but from God.
but a Jew [is] he who is [so] inwardly, and circumcision [is] of the heart, in spirit, not in letter, of which the praise is not of men, but of God.
