< Romans 1 >
1 Paul, a bondman of Jesus Christ, a called apostle having been separated for the good news of God
Paul, a servant of Messiah Jesus, called to be an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God,
2 (which he fore-promised through his prophets in the holy scriptures)
which he promised before through his prophets in the holy Scriptures,
3 concerning his Son who was made from the seed of David according to flesh.
concerning his Son, who was born of the offspring of David according to the flesh,
4 He who was designated Son of God in power, according to a spirit of holiness, from a resurrection of the dead-Jesus Christ our Lord-
who was declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead, Jesus (the) Messiah our Lord,
5 through whom we received grace and apostleship for obedience of faith among all the nations on behalf of his name,
through whom we received grace and the office of apostle, for obedience of faith among all the nations, for his name's sake;
6 among which ye also are the called of Jesus Christ.
among whom you are also called to belong to Jesus (the) Messiah;
7 To all who are in Rome, beloved of God, to the called, to the sanctified: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
to all who are in Rome, loved by God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus (the) Messiah.
8 First, I indeed express thanks to my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, that your faith is proclaimed in the whole world.
First, I thank my God through Jesus (the) Messiah for all of you, because your faith is proclaimed throughout the whole world.
9 For God is my witness whom I serve in my spirit in the good news of his Son, how unceasingly I make mention of you always in my prayers,
For God is my witness, whom I serve in my spirit in the gospel of his Son, how I constantly mention you
10 pleading, if somehow now at last I will have a prosperous journey by the will of God to come to you.
always in my prayers, requesting, if by any means now at last I may succeed by the will of God to come to you.
11 For I long to see you, so that I may impart some spiritual gift to you, in order to establish you,
For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to strengthen you;
12 and that is, to be mutually encouraged among you through each other's faith, both yours and mine.
that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other's faith, both yours and mine.
13 But I do not want you to be ignorant, brothers, that I often intended to come to you (and was prevented until now), so that I might have some fruit also among you, even as among the other Gentiles.
Now I do not desire to have you unaware, brothers, that I often planned to come to you, and was hindered so far, that I might have some fruit among you also, even as among the other non-Jewish people.
14 I am debtor both to Greeks and to Barbarians, both to the wise and to the foolish.
I have an obligation both to Greeks and to barbarians, both to the wise and to the foolish.
15 So the willingness is in me to preach the good news also to you in Rome.
So, for my part, I am eager to preach the gospel to you also who are in Rome.
16 For I am not ashamed of the good news of Christ, for it is the power of God for salvation to every man who believes, both to the Jew first, and to the Greek.
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation for everyone who believes; for the Jew first, and also for the Greek.
17 For the righteousness of God is revealed in it from faith for faith, just as it is written, And the righteous man will live from faith.
For in it is revealed God's righteousness from faith to faith. As it is written, "But the righteous will live by faith."
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all irreverence and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,
For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of people, who suppress the truth by unrighteousness,
19 because what is knowable of God is apparent in them, for God made it known to them.
because what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them.
20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things made, both his eternal power and divinity, for them to be without excuse. (aïdios )
For since the creation of the world his invisible attributes, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made. So they are without excuse. (aïdios )
21 Because, although knowing God, they did not glorify him as God, nor were they thankful, but became vain in their reasonings and their heart was darkened without understanding.
Because, although they knew God, they did not glorify him as God or give him thanks, but their thinking became nonsense, and their foolish heart was darkened.
22 Professing to be wise, they became foolish,
Claiming to be wise, they became fools,
23 and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image like corruptible man, and of birds, and four-footed things, and creeping things.
and traded the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal humans, and of birds, and four-footed animals, and crawling creatures.
24 And for this reason God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to uncleanness, to degrade their bodies among themselves,
Therefore God also abandoned them in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the degrading of their bodies among themselves,
25 who changed the truth of God into the lie, and worshiped and served the creation against him who created it, who is blessed into the ages. Truly. (aiōn )
who exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creation rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. (aiōn )
26 Because of this God gave them up to shameful passions, for even their females changed the natural use into what is against nature.
For this reason, God abandoned them to their degrading passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for that which is contrary to nature.
27 And likewise also the males, having left the natural use of the female, burned in their lust toward each other, males with males producing shamelessness, and receiving in themselves the recompense of their deviancy that was fitting.
Likewise also the men, giving up natural relations with women, burned in their lust toward one another, men with men, committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the due penalty of their error.
28 And just as they did not approve having God in knowledge, God gave them over to an unfit mind, to do things that are not fit;
Even as they refused to have God in their knowledge, God abandoned them to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not right;
29 having been filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malignity;
being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil habits, secret slanderers,
30 being gossips, slanderous, God-hating, aggressors, arrogant boasters, contrivers of evil things, disobedient to parents;
slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
31 without understanding, untrustworthy, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful.
foolish, promise-breakers, heartless, unforgiving, unmerciful;
32 Who, knowing the righteousness of God, that those who commit such things are worthy of death, not only do them, but also favor those who do.
who, knowing the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but also approve of those who practice them.
