Psalms 60

1 O God thou have cast us off. Thou have broken us down. Thou have been angry. O restore us again.

Al maestro del coro. Su «Giglio del precetto». Miktam. Di Davide. Da insegnare. Quando uscì contro gli Aramei della Valle dei due fiumi e contro gli Aramei di Soba, e quando Gioab, nel ritorno, sconfisse gli Idumei nella Valle del sale: dodici mila uomini. Dio, tu ci hai respinti, ci hai dispersi; ti sei sdegnato: ritorna a noi.

2 Thou have made the land to tremble. Thou have torn it. Heal the breaking of it, for it shakes.

Hai scosso la terra, l'hai squarciata, risana le sue fratture, perché crolla.

3 Thou have shown thy people hard things. Thou have made us to drink the wine of staggering.

Hai inflitto al tuo popolo dure prove, ci hai fatto bere vino da vertigini.

4 Thou have given a banner to those who fear thee, that it may be displayed because of the truth. (Selah)

Hai dato un segnale ai tuoi fedeli perché fuggissero lontano dagli archi.

5 That thy beloved ones may be delivered, save with thy right hand, and answer us.

Perché i tuoi amici siano liberati, salvaci con la destra e a noi rispondi.

6 God has spoken in his holiness. I will exult. I will divide Shechem, and mete out the valley of Succoth.

Dio ha parlato nel suo tempio: «Esulto e divido Sichem, misuro la valle di Succot.

7 Gilead is mine, and Manasseh is mine. Ephraim also is the defense of my head. Judah is my scepter.

Mio è Gàlaad, mio è Manasse, Efraim è la difesa del mio capo, Giuda lo scettro del mio comando.

8 Moab is my wash pot. Upon Edom I will cast my shoe. Philistia, shout thou because of me.

Moab è il bacino per lavarmi, sull'Idumea getterò i miei sandali, sulla Filistea canterò vittoria».

9 Who will bring me into the strong city? Who has led me to Edom?

Chi mi condurrà alla città fortificata, chi potrà guidarmi fino all'Idumea?

10 Have not thou, O God, cast us off? And thou go not forth, O God, with our armies.

Non forse tu, o Dio, che ci hai respinti, e più non esci, o Dio, con le nostre schiere?

11 Give us help against the adversary, for vain is the help of man.

Nell'oppressione vieni in nostro aiuto perché vana è la salvezza dell'uomo.

12 Through God we shall do valiantly, for he it is who will tread down our adversaries.

Con Dio noi faremo prodigi: egli calpesterà i nostri nemici.
