< Psalms 6 >
1 O Jehovah, rebuke me not in thine anger, nor chasten me in thy hot displeasure.
“To the chief musician on Neginoth upon Sheminith, a psalm of David.” O Lord, correct me not in thy anger, and chastise me not in thy wrath.
2 Have mercy upon me, O Jehovah, for I am withered away. O Jehovah, heal me, for my bones are troubled.
Be gracious unto me, O Lord; for I am withering away; heal me, O Lord; for my bones are terrified.
3 My soul also is greatly troubled. And thou, O Jehovah, how long?
And my soul is greatly terrified; but thou, O Lord, how long yet—?
4 Return, O Jehovah, deliver my soul. Save me for thy loving kindness' sake.
Return, O Lord, deliver my soul: help me for the sake of thy kindness.
5 For in death there is no remembrance of thee. In Sheol who shall give thee thanks? (Sheol )
For in death men do not remember thee: in the nether world, who shall give thee thanks? (Sheol )
6 I am weary with my groaning. Every night I make my bed to swim. I water my couch with my tears.
I am weary with my sighing; I flood every night my bed; With my tears I moisten my couch.
7 My eye wastes away because of grief. It grows old because of all my adversaries.
My eye is consumed because of grief; it waxeth old because of all my assailants.
8 Depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity, for Jehovah has heard the voice of my weeping.
Depart from me, all ye workers of wickedness; for the Lord hath heard the voice of my weeping.
9 Jehovah has heard my supplication. Jehovah will receive my prayer.
The Lord hath heard my supplication; the Lord will accept my prayer.
10 All my enemies shall be put to shame and greatly troubled. They shall turn back. They shall be put to shame suddenly.
Ashamed and greatly terrified shall become all my enemies; they will turn round, and be made ashamed in a moment.
