Proverbs 31
1 The words of king Lemuel, the oracle which his mother taught him.
Słowa króla Lemuela, proroctwo, którego nauczyła go jego matka.
2 What, my son? And what, O son of my womb? And what, O son of my vows?
Cóż, synu mój? Cóż, synu mojego łona? I cóż, synu moich ślubów?
3 Give not thy strength to women, nor thy ways to that which destroys kings.
Nie oddawaj kobietom swej siły ani twoich dróg temu, co [prowadzi] do zguby królów.
4 It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine, nor for rulers to say, Where is strong drink?
Nie królom, o Lemuelu, nie królom wypada pić wina i nie książętom bawić się mocnym napojem;
5 Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the justice due to any who is afflicted.
By pijąc, nie zapomnieli praw i nie wypaczyli sprawy wszystkich ludzi uciśnionych.
6 Give strong drink to him who is ready to perish, and wine to the bitter in soul.
Dajcie mocny napój ginącym, a wino strapionym na duchu.
7 Let him drink, and forget his need, and remember his misery no more.
Niech się napiją i zapomną o swoim ubóstwie, i niech nie pamiętają więcej swego utrapienia.
8 Open thy mouth for the mute, in the cause of all such as are left desolate.
Otwórz swe usta dla niemych w sprawie wszystkich osądzonych na śmierć.
9 Open thy mouth, judge righteously, and minister justice to the poor and needy.
Otwórz swe usta, sądź sprawiedliwie i broń sprawy ubogiego i nędzarza.
10 A worthy woman who can find? For her price is far above rubies.
Któż znajdzie kobietę cnotliwą? Jej wartość przewyższa perły.
11 The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he shall have no lack of gain.
Serce męża jej ufa i zysku mu nie zabraknie.
12 She does him good and not evil all the days of her life.
Dobro mu będzie wyświadczać, a nie zło, po wszystkie dni swego życia.
13 She seeks wool and flax, and works willingly with her hands.
Szuka wełny i lnu i chętnie pracuje swymi rękami.
14 She is like the merchant ships: she brings her bread from afar.
Podobna jest do okrętów handlowych; przywozi żywność z daleka.
15 She also rises while it is yet night, and gives food to her household, and their task to her maidens.
Wstaje, gdy jeszcze jest noc, i daje pokarm swoim domownikom i odpowiednią porcję swym służącym.
16 She considers a field, and buys it. With the fruit of her hands she plants a vineyard.
Myśli o polu i kupuje je; z zarobku swych rąk sadzi winnice.
17 She girds her loins with strength, and makes strong her arms.
Przepasuje swe biodra siłą i umacnia swoje ramiona.
18 She perceives that her merchandise is profitable. Her lamp does not go out by night.
Dostrzega, że jej dorobek jest dobry, a jej pochodnia w nocy nie gaśnie.
19 She lays her hands to the distaff, and her hands hold the spindle.
Wyciąga ręce po kądziel, a dłonią chwyta wrzeciono.
20 She stretches out her hand to the poor, yea, she reaches forth her hands to the needy.
Otwiera dłoń przed ubogim i wyciąga swe ręce do nędzarza.
21 She is not afraid of the snow for her household, for all her household are clothed with scarlet.
Nie boi się śniegu dla swych domowników, bo wszyscy jej domownicy są ubrani w szkarłat.
22 She makes for herself carpets of tapestry. Her clothing is fine linen and purple.
Robi sobie kobierce; jej ubiór jest z jedwabiu i purpury.
23 Her husband is known in the gates when he sits among the elders of the land.
Jej mąż jest znany w bramach, gdy siedzi wśród starszyzny ziemi.
24 She makes linen garments and sells them, and delivers girdles to the merchant.
Wyrabia płótno i sprzedaje je, dostarcza pasy kupcowi.
25 Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come.
Siła i godność są jej strojem; będzie się cieszyła jeszcze w przyszłości.
26 She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the law of kindness is on her tongue.
Otwiera swe usta mądrze i na jej języku [jest] prawo miłosierdzia.
27 She looks well to the ways of her household, and does not eat the bread of idleness.
Dogląda spraw swego domu i nie je chleba próżniactwa.
28 Her sons rise up, and call her blessed. Her husband also, and he praises her.
Jej dzieci powstają i błogosławią jej, mąż także ją chwali:
29 Many daughters have done worthily, but thou excel them all.
Wiele kobiet poczynało sobie cnotliwie, ale ty przewyższasz je wszystkie.
30 Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears Jehovah, she shall be praised.
Wdzięk [jest] zwodniczy i piękność próżna, [lecz] kobieta, która się boi PANA, jest godna pochwały.
31 Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her works praise her in the gates.
Dajcie jej z owocu jej rąk i niech jej czyny chwalą ją w bramach.
